What is the point of having a computer these days. I feel like everywhere I go, people basically have facebook, google, music, or anything right from there phone at all times. I feel like spending money on a computer is pointless when everything can be done by phone.

Hi. ThomasLinnane. Welcome to myLot! I agree with you too. I have a laptop that I am using now to access the Internet on. I don't want to access the Internet by my phone. It takes too slow. The keys are too small My husband has a Blackberry cell phone, and he is always on it. He stays on it for hours typing. I can't see how he can do it. My hands would be so tired from doing all of that typing if I used it soley for my Internet connection issues.

I think it has gotten so far out of hand... people aren't "living" these days. They are just tapping buttons and things are done for them. I hate cell phones.. and the fact that they are now mini computers... that's even worse. I hate texting too. People are missing out on so many good and fun things in life cause they spend so much time tapping buttons in their hands. And just think... if you loose that...you loose so much of your life and the problems it could cause.

Well i still prefer the computer. Some applications won't run in phone. Furthermore computers have larger screens :)

I still prefer using the internet on the computer although it's very convenient to use it on the phone because it comes very handy, but when it comes to browsing and stuff computer or laptop is still more reliable and fast.

Although it is very convenient to connect internet through the cellhpone. However, the cellphone can not replace to the computer anyway. Try to imagine if you want to edit a photo, perhaps a computer works better. It will be professional. The cellphone is just portable and it can help us do some basic things. If you want to do something professional, you still need a computer.
I love China

Hi ThomasLinnane and a warm welcome to you to myLot!
I have a black berry which I absolutely love and have considered an iPhone but can't decide. However there are sites that require the flash player media which neither phone supports so I find my PC very necessary.

Hi Thom,
The computer still remains my primary workhorse on the net. My greatest drawback to the mobile phone is its very small screen that limits the display of graphics and texts. If it could be interfaced to a larger secondary monitor, then things may go a little bit different.
There are tons of capabilities that a mobile phone cannot do compared to a regular desktop computer, i.e, word processing, large data storage, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, software engineering, CAD-CAM, GPS mapping, radar control, telemetry, to name but a few of them.
