As I was discussing a topic on global issues with my student last night, we narrowed it down to what is happening these days, earthquake in new Zealand and Japan and the war in middle east nowadays. My student then told me, "teacher, I think 2012 will be the end of the world". I asked, what made your think of that? She answered because of what is happening. I wonder since then, are these events some kind of warning of what is going to happen in the future? What do you think?

i dont think that the movie 2012 is real,. Although the things happening now in our day is really the signs of the second coming of the Savior, no one knows when will be the exact date of His coming but for us to be prepare there will be signs, and what happened now on our world are just one of those signs.

You are right! So I consider them as warning or what you say signs. However, we don't know when the day really is.

I don't think the world is ending in 2012.
It may appear, like the end because of the calamities and catastrophe's that are going on around the world but I believe the earth will cope and so will we.
So many things are happening and changing the landscape but it doesn't mean its the end. I'd wager that we have more time on earth and that 2012 will just be another year that passes by unremarkably. But then again its just my opinion.

Maybe or maybe not. I myself is being positive about that but there is a little part in my mind that is negative. If and only if the world will end, what can we do?

If it end it ends right? Is thre really anything we can do about it?
I guess when it comes down to it, it would depend on what you believe in. If you are Christian, you would look at the end differently than a Hindu or an Islam would.
Some look forward to the end, some believe that these are just signs that have been foretold. Signs that what is to come is just around the corner. but does it really mean its the end of the world? or would it just be the end of life as we used to live it?

Yup! We can't do anything if it does really end literally.

Hi dexterrous: I don't think 2012 must be the end of the world. It's a possibility but no human can predict a situation like this. About your answer, of course, these situations are a warning but in a different way. They show us that we have to change. Humans have destroyed nature, have done wars, haven't cared about the people, the resources and the earth in general and we are destroying our planet. These calamities are a warning. They tell us that we have to change soon before everything will be lost.

I don't think the world will end in 2012, but I do believe that all these are the things that Jesus have said about. I know many will not believe in what Jesus said because Jesus also said about that. But I will always have faith in my Savior who have given me eternal peace in my heart.Jesus said in Matthew 24:6-8 "6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains."

If you are watching the EWTN channel before, a nun who is one of the three kids who have seen an apparition of Mary said that in year 2012 there will be calamities to appear. It will slowly destroy the place and make a new one.
Whether it is true or not. Let us just be careful and hopefully people would open their eyes on what is happening now. Because of us people who are destroying the place, the future generation will be the ones who will suffer from it.

I don't think that these are any kind of warning. It seems like the storms and earthquakes keep getting worse and worse. If you stop and pay attention to the facts, and do a little research, you find that isn't the case. The only reason they seem that way is because there are more people affected by them, which makes them news worthy and fodder for the alarmists. The world isn't coming to an end as we know it. There have always been massive storms and huge quakes, there weren't nearly as many people it affected. Think about this. If Hurricane Katrina had hit exactly where it did, exactly as it did, in 1700, would it have done nearly as much damage as it The same goes for the recent quakes in Haiti and Japan. The quake that hit San Francisco in 1909 was nearly as large as the one that just hit Japan. While it was devastating, it didn't do nearly the amount of damage that the Japan quake did (admittedly there wasn't a tsunami (as far as I know) as a secondary cause of damage, but there WERE extensive and out of control fires) because there were fewer people and buildings to do damage too. The Earth will continue on as it always has, it has amazing power and we, as humans and mearly inhabitants, not the controllers we like to believe we are, need to come to terms with that. Japanese people know the risks with where they live, the same with every person who is annually with hurricanes and goes back and rebuilds every time.

For me yes, they are a warning.
Perhaps God allowed that because the people seemed to be already worldly. It's his only way for the people to realize that living in this world is not simply about the material possessions. It's also about spiritual life , in which everyone should be aware of.
Don't anyone notice that when there is a natural calamity, everybody will be praying to God for help? This only means He allows us to be weak , to show that he is still the strongest.

i also think so that the 2012 will be the end of the world as there are a lot of natural calamities happening. But this will not be the end of whole creature as after each and every calamity, its trouble for some creature and good for other creatures as after each Tsunami, the fish and other creature of ocean got new healthy elements, their fishing stops. actually we are think about ourself from the start but their are a lot of other creatures in this world. If this world will end it doesn't mean that every live thing in this world will end. many will survive and many will get their end.We can just pray for us and others.

So far the nature exists, its calamities will ersis too. You cannot think a Rose without spines. And that type of calamities existed in past and it will be in future. You may look through the history of geological time scale, you can view recurring scinerio of such calamities.
And being a teacher you should convince your student about it, not sinking in the pond of superstition or any fiction.

Well, so far I did not push my student to the brink of believing such. And I kept the question myself "if" this is some kind of warning. And I guess everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion it may be real or superstition, isn't it?
