Yesterday there's a text messages circulating here in philippines contains the awareness of the presence of radiation brought by the rain that can burn our skin. A lot of people get panics and even schools suspended thier class. After nuclear reactor in Japan exploded. How seriously radiation treats our health? Is that bad enough?

Welcome to mylot Jam Radiation can certainly affect our health, but i don't agree that the radiation can come from japan to your country through rain waters, nothing to be scared, do you have any idea, from where this originated, some body probably played foul LOL Thanks for sharing Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

Hi Jam, I'm sure you're all being scared, but the important thing to say is that THE NUCLEAR REACTOR DIDN'T EXPLODE at all. They're just having problems cooling it down, but it can't explode, since it's now turned off since the moment of the biggest earthquake. There's the possibility of a meltdown, but not an explosion - of course this is worrying, but not nearly as much as the possibility of a nuclear explosion. This said, of course radiation can harm your health. But I shall say that you shouldn't be worried about this already, since the winds are blowing to the ocean and the radiation type is one that will get easily worn out by the atmosphere in eight days. By the time it may return to Japanese citizens or you in the Philippines, the damage would be the same of a strong radiography. Not good for your health, but definitely not that bad. Try to stay safe, and surf on the internet for more news. A lot of nuclear engineers are putting a lot of effort on the issue. :)

Hi Jam, radiation can affect our health, but not likely through rainwater. Imagine you take Chest X-ray everyday, you can get cancer easily. Pregnant women are most at risk, since the baby can born with defects, such as without eyes or arms or legs. The risk is not in the rain that burn the skin. The risk is that the plants and animals absorb the radiation, and causing health problems for the next ten years.
