Are Natural Disasters Evitable?

After all the recent natural disasters that have struck the earth like the Japan Quake, do you think that they are avoidable? If they aren't, what are we supposed to do? I know evacuation is only thing that can be done, but are there really no other solutions?

I believe it's inevitable but the damaged can be minimized. For floods, we could plant more trees and avoid throwing garbage anywhere. For the effects of climate change, save electricity, avoid using too much plastics and burning them. Theses are little things we could do to avoid huge damage to mankind, to this world. (:

I agree that the damage inflicted can be minimized. Thanks for sharing your ideas on how it can be minimized. Just a little question, how do you think the damage of something so huge, tremendous, obliterating can be reduced ie Japan Quake.

Well, given the fact that Japan lies on a major fault line thus making it prone to earthquakes and since it is surrounded by a big body of water, I think it's only logical to expect a tsunami. Majority of the damage was caused by the tsunami itself so should they have built a wall or something to prevent big waves from coming and washed out everything that goes on its way, then maybe, just maybe, there could only be less damaged incurred.

Sadly, it is really nothing we can do. Forces of nature are always something that humans will never be able to combat. Granted there are several schools of thought that damage that have been done to the environment that have caused a lot of the trouble but there have been natural disasters since as long as humanity has really been around.
Therefore, when you think about it, we really have nothing to do to stop it. Therefore, all we need to do is to prepare for the very worst. And there are a lot of fallout from natural disasters that can be very bad, as what has been proven over the last week. We need to be educated of preparation for the unfortunate and what needs to be done, to make sure our lives are not disrupted too much or put in danger. Which is easier said than done.

Very good point there. Preparation is the key point there as we cannot do much to avoid the natural disasters. I think all that we can do is just unite as one, stop hurting mother nature and hope for a better tomorrow.
