I admit it is up to the meal, If I like the meal I will enjoy my meal, if I don't, I will leave it.

Hi ifa
I was here expecting an invitation for some meeting over coffee or supper ... hopes shattered
Ok, seriously, Some would enjoy the meeting and some (those who do not want to be a part of the meeting) would enjoy the food... I would have loved the food more than the meeting as the ones that I attended (with lunch or snacks), they were all quite boring and nothing much happening during them...

Marketing Executives have a horrible life... but moneywise they can earn a lot because of the PERKS and COMMISSIONS but I would need peace of mind and more of the Pat on the Back to deliver the best
For the Coffee... yes, at times it does become more interesting than the discussions but right now, I am basking in the pat that this BR has given me...

Hi ifa!
Me and my colleagues take lunch together in the office and of course we bring home cooked lunch. We normally do not discuss anything, while eating our food. If we need to discuss any issue, we do it either before having our lunch or after finishing our lunch.

I absolutely hate it. It's a way for the boss to take your lunch time from you. OK, You get to eat, but you can't relax. Thankfully I don't work for anyone anymore. I don't have to bow down to the bosses wishes and demands.

While meeting I forget what I am eating.A poor multi tasker no? I do not mind sipping however.I would like to concentrate on the proceedings of the meeting, and I feel conscious about eating there. Moreover, unlike many, I also do not mind eating alone and do not prefer others waiting upon me.I too do not like waiting for others---sounds unsocial perhaps.

some people say that you can get the attention of the other people in a food table when you are talking with each other. you can get more serious or truthfulness when they eat and talk. but for me, i say, never talk when your mouth is full.

Hi Ifa225!.
I think when people gonna eat they had better mood and with good mood they hope its will give better result. Maybe its also made the situation less formal for them so every one feel free to give contribution in meeting.
I think we get used eating and chat in dinner table so its won't much different but if its really serious one maybe I will not enjoy it. If its really important do you think the company will held it while lunch especially not located in their office.

Actually it makes the meeting much more enjoyable because everyone is so relaxed eating and the meeting does not seem like work. We actually all feel very comfortable almost like amongst friends.
I would say my first time was uncomfortable to eat in front of business associates but soon as we started we were all comfortable.

I don't think I can too. I really want to enjoy my food without having to bother about anything work-related. I prefer to have the meeting then have the eating afterward. Sometimes the food could be quite a distraction. I don't think people would be that attentive or tend to be cooperative when there is the temptation of food beside them.

I do not see the pont of having a meeting while also having a meal. It is stupid to me really. I mean yes you could have a meeting and then go for your meal. But i would not really like to talk often while eating, i would rather concentrate on having my meal. i certainly would not enjoy my meal, especially if asked a question after i have just inserted food into my mouth. I just don't see the point of this and i would not be able to relax at all.

Sometimes during our meeting a pizza is served when it's about to end. Or sometimes it's a burger with drinks.
But we eat them only once the meeting has ended. That way, we get to eat while sharing some more ideas about what was discussed.

Its not normal this way, what I usually see is, when there is any meeting, in the morning, its tea and then doing all the talking, lunch time, everybody just have their lunch but no talking and even this specific time, no one is discussing any thing until lunch is over. I do not think its proper to talk whilst you are eating, its out of propotion when it is a meeting, because you need to focus to all discussion and the way forward is needed.

Usually, it's the only time that people at work can do meetings especially during a busy day and so eating lunch whole having a meeting is just appropriate. Besides, it can make the atmosphere of the meeting a lot better when great food is served during the meeting. At our place though, we usually have it in the morning right before we start working. It's quite a must especially if there are a few reminders for deadlines regarding certain projects assigned to us.

I actually don't care for lunch meetings at all. In my experience, people pay more attention to the food than the meeting and it's not really productive at all. Personally, I prefer to have the meeting and take a break for lunch and then return to the meeting. For one, people do need to have a break from work and that is traditionally what lunch is for... meeting through lunch is, in my mind, a way of getting more work from employees that are not necessarily compensated for it. Sometimes, it's necessary to work through lunch -- particularly if out-of-town clients or employees are attending the meeting and there is only limited time to accomplish what is needed. These kinds of meetings generally only happen once in awhile. I know someone, though, that works for a business where the boss expects all of his managers to eat lunch with him every day, at their own expense ... and it's not just a meal, they always discuss business matters. I think employees are entitled to their lunch break each day to either enjoy the food of their choice or to take a walk to to just relax a bit.

i agree with this.
why don't they give us a break to enjoy our lunch and refresh our mind from work matters.?
even they paid me, i better to have my eating without meeting

hi ifa well I worked for 23 years in the tustin b ranch of the Orange County Library systgem. we had break together with fresh coffee and
warmed bagels and talked over the days work. we were all friends and I really enjoyed it. I think it depends on the work and the crew involved. I might have felt diggerently in a different type of job.

I think that's interesting and fun to eat while having a meeting because it keeps the people "energized" but I think it would be a bit messy. Also, people might be too concentrated on eating than listening to a report or the one who's speaking. As for me, it's nice to have food available during meetings but I would rather keep my hands busy holding papers and reading along.

Light snacks probably but not full meals. It would be awkward to have food stuffed in your mouth when you're asked a question. Or sometimes a delicious meal might distract you from the business at hand. Besides, I hate long meetings. Serving food would only prolong the meetings. But I do enjoy eating if I know beforehand that the meeting would drag for more than an hour :)

I guess people do that to "save time", or "kill two birds with one stone".
If it is a bunch of colleagues, usually we try not to talk about work, unless there really is some urgency. In such cases, it cannot be helped.
For me, if the lunch companion is someone who is easy to talk to, I won't mind the meeting. But if it is with the boss, I wonder if I can swallow the food, even if he is paying.
