Absolutely! TV makes kids lazy. Once they start watching, they don't want to do their homework. That is why the policy should be homework first and limit the TV watching.

That is great idea, we have to be strict to them for their own good, am I right?

My son also really like watching television, I often switch my child's favorite television viewing, with other activities. I give my child 1 hour to watch television, then I take my child, do something fun. Sometimes my way was successful, but occasionally does not work.

We must try to be patient to give them space, but not too much. And besides I don't want them to be influenced with what they are watching. They kicking their younger sister like what they have seen in cartoons Tom and Jerry.

Because i want money so much my kids has always the tv to keep them company :( but when i spend time with them, theyre delighted so my suggestion is to find something that they will enjoy and if you can afford it, make it a like a ritual. Long time ago when i am not so money driven :( the playground is always welcomed. I like it too its free.

Oops i sorry i got it wrong. Switch off the tv and make school work pleasant. Praise them and praise them on their school work. That works for me.

TV is a privilege. It is not a necessity, and if children think that it is a necessity, it is time to cut out the television all together. Unplug the television for a week. Then only allow it after they have done a set amount of studying. This does not mean that it is on all the time. Have each person pick one show that they just have to watch every week and they get to watch that show.

Once they started watching tv, it's really hard to let them out of the tv room.

I have the same problem and I have enforced that my children don't watch tv until their work is done. That is their first priority when they come in the door. No tv and if their friends knock on the door to come out and play , they can't until they're done with homework. At first I had to deal with ranting and raving, crying and pouting and eventually the rules established themselves . My children still complain at times but we make it thru it. Tv is addictive because its entertainment but their are also other means of entertainment. My children read alot. My oldest daughter was starting reading chapter books in the 2nd grade and I push her to changelle herself all the time.

Can you have your children do their homework in another room of your home where there is no television set present in that room ? Or better yet, if that is not possible, can you remove the t.v from the room where the homework is being done ? In either case you will need to carefully monitor the situation and make sure they are not watching television till after they do their homework.

The best idea i can give you on having your kids do something else besides watchng TV is to unplug the tv hoping they dont know how to plug it back in, or easier said than done take the remote away because kids dont like having to go to the TV to switch the channells as well. Those are a couple of my ideas but im sure there are other ways on doing this too but goodluck.
