Do you respond to old discussions?

Australia

I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not its weird to respond to discussions that seem to have been over and done with years ago. Is it a waste of time if no one is ever going to read it? Or should I do it just for the fact that I have something to say on the topic and I should say it. What do you guys think? Do you respond to old discussions or do you stick with the new ones?

Hello Annapplez, I wish I had time to read old discussions and respond to them. But I can barely keep up with the new ones. I don't have time to be here as much as I like, so I haven't responded to an old discussion yet. I don't think it would really be a waste of time, as the moment when you respond to an old discussion, it will be found in the "recent discussions" tab, and there is a chance to receive a feedback.

I know how you feel, a new discussion pops up every minute and I have trouble keeping up with them as they're coming in. But that's true about the recent discussions, I never thought about that, thanks inu1711.

I respond sometimes to discussions found with the search bar, even very old discussions. I rarely have got a feedback for a very old discussion but it can happen if the starter is still active. I got four responses today to old -- a few weeks old only -- discussions, three for the same member who found them in my profile and one for another user who probably saw a response of the previous looking to "recent" discussions. Responding to old discussions can be a not so bad strategy if you have a low star : your response will be mainly seen by the starter of the discussion and you will certainly not get a negative rating from him/her.

It is a good discussion, and I am sure that you will see your star rating increasing. When you see it at (100) it can be low not only because you got negative ratings, but also often because you have not been positively rated, and it is probably your case : this is not alarming.

That's really good advice topffer, I would like my star rating to go up a bit. It's good to see also that people actually bother following up their discussions and responding back.

I'm not too worried, I've only been a member for a week and I've only done 108 responses. I will just keep participating and hopefully getting my responses rated until I hit that magical blue 10 star that adorns your name. Thank you for your responses =)

There are many times I will find myself still responding back to older discussions. Especially if it is one from a Friend, as there are many times I am not as active here and it could be something of interest worth responding back too as well.

I did notice that you seem to follow your friend's discussions rather than just picking one at random. I think that's a nice way to do it and I've been trying to do it, but so many of my friends start so may discussions, it's hard to keep up.

sometimes here discussions are very old - sometimes here discussions are very old! lol
hi annaplez! when I answer a discussion I don't care to much if it is old or new. What is important for is if the topic catch my attention. Sometimes it happens I reply to an old discussion because I searched for it and it is the only one here in Mylot. So I don't think replying old topics is a waste of time. When I don't know where to reply, I stick with new ones to find a cool topic to respond. Cheers :D

I respond in many discussion with out think whether its new or old as there is nothing weird about but but if i see a some of the discussion starter is not active for a long time on mylot then there is no need to post as he would never read it or might have left mylot but i do occasionally post on discussion which are few are started few months ago but most of the time nearly 90% of the time i post on new one as i know that my post would be seen by someone

All i can suggest you is that when you find an interesting discussion and want to response in that do it may be the discussion starter would come back after few month and read it who know also some other active mylotter may read it and would reply you back i have seen many old discussion in which users still respond and hope the some one would see that

That's what I was thinking which prompted me to ask the question sajeevking. Is it worthwhile to post a response knowing that the person who asked the question will most likely never read it. I have trouble keeping up with the new ones that keep coming in, but I think if I find an old one that I have an interest in, I will be responding.

Hi. annapplez. Yes, I do respond to a lot of old discussions. I have something to say on most of them anyway. Most of the time, the member that created this discussion will see it. Most of these members are active now, or they may come in and out to check what someone has responded to. So yes, your answer counts, it does not go unnoticed. And you also earn from your post, even if no one responds back to it, or even if it is old.

Thanks cream97, I think I have to take your advice, with 16387 responses you must know what you're talking about lol. But I have decided with the help of everyone who responded that I will post on discussions that interest me whether they were posted 30 seconds ago or four years ago. And it's good to know that perhaps someone will read my comment and it may help members with similar questions.

I would respond to discussions old or new. As long as it seems to hold some interest for me, i would not consider any discussion a waste of time.

That's true, it's not really a waste of time if I get to say what I want to say. You still get paid for it and I guess I will just have to hope that someone someday will read it and agree with it.

Whether it's old or new it's still a discussion. There's nothing weird about it. I'd you find an interesting discussion from way before, don't hesitate to respond on it. Besides, myLot still pays you regardless if it's old or new so there's another reason.

Too true, frontvisions. Would be a good solution for those myLotters who want to participate and earn money, but are a bit shy about what they write. Responding in old discussions might give them the self-esteem to try the new ones.

hi there. yes i do sometimes respond to them. sometimes i can't find some new discussions interesting, so i look for some, even old ones to respond to. i think our opinions still matter.
• Australia
18 Mar 11
But there are so many new discussions, you must find some interesting. Every minute a new one comes up that I want to respond to, I'm having trouble keeping up. And when I find an old one that I'm interested in I will respond, because you're right, our opinions do still matter.

I saw many discussions like this but in my opinion old or new is not matter for me. It seems to be old is a days are completed and new means coming in this time i always try to stick with old and new discussions but for there is no variations for these new and old.I never compare the new and old with discussions

I think a lot of your meaning was lost in translation, but I get the gist of it. New meanings and new ways of looking at a situation can be applied to old discussions. We shouldn't compare new and old discussions, we should answer how we see fit at the time. I think =)

Yes why not???? If the discussion is something that you are intersted to i cant see a problem on respondig to the old discussion...!

Why not indeed Tzakgr?! It seems that most people seem to think date does not matter and I think I'm starting to agree.

I usually answer to the discussion independently from when it had been written. If I have something to say I write. I have seen that sometimes someone answer to comment and the discussion "come back" to life. For some discussion there are new facts or aspects that make it became relevant again.

Well Iam discussing or responding to the old discussions too because iam not seeing the discussions are old or new but iam seeing the discussion value whether it is valuable or not??? If it is valuable in my point view then definitely i will respond because someone can get a better ideas from that discussion or even i too can get a lots of views or ideas regarding any particular topic...And remember that "NEW IS SILVER OLD IS GOLD"...

That's really good advice asrararmar. Old discussions are really good practice for the new ones. I will definitely try to overlook the dates and focus on the content. Thanks.

Hi, I responded to any discussions,be it an old or new discussions.as long as the topic is interesting and I have something to write, then I will respond to it. Some old discussions may be more interesting than new discussion, the main point is I can get what the content od the discussions. I do read some discussions but I just can't get the main point. and I am totally don't get what the writer is going to ask.

That's how I keep coming across these old discussions. When I respond to a recent one I'm interested in, I see the similar discussions down the bottom and I can't resist going and checking them out. Thanks for the advice, I think I'll try to work up the courage to post to and old one.

At first I was hesitant because answering to old discussions seems to be walking to an empty room. Everyone had participated and there is no one there anymore. But based on feedback by the veterans here about responding to old discussions, I learned that no discussion would be too old to participate. And so I started participating to old discussions. What is nice is some of the discussion starters still comment back to their responses. To me that is so cool!

I respond to discussions not exceeding to 2 months cause I doubt if the the person who posted the topic might still be interested if it's been months ago. I still visit the new ones cause I think even your opinion would be up to date. But if you want go ahead that's what we do here post in discussions where we have a say on the topic.

I think that's good that you've set a little rule for yourself and it's true, the person who wrote the discussion isn't still going to be monitoring it months or years later. Thanks for giving me your say.

sometimes i like to respond to old discussion because i have something to say,or have a better idea than others.,lol..anyway its good to respond to old topics if the topic is interesting and eventually occur to you..as what people say if you know what is the best solution share and if you don't have any idea then say nothing because a man with an empty mind would tell things that is irrelevant while a man who knows well speak well as for me yah, i will respond provided i know what am i talking about..but if i don't then i had to shut up
