Some people are just so crazy here. Now it seems the salt is out of stock from the shops. People are just so afraid of the bad effect of the nuclear blast in Japan. They rush to buy the salt because they are afraid in the future there is a pollution of the salt. Or they think the salt contains iodine and therefore it can prevent us from the radiation? I am not worried about it and I don't think we should rush to buy the salt. It means that lately I can't bake the salty cashew

Hi Dear Youless! These types of rumors are common after any major calamity! Here some people with vested interest spread such rumours for their personal benefits or some times just to have fun!
You should be surprised if you have come to know that such rumors have been created by one of the person doing business in domestic salt! Just to create artificial shortage in the market by taking the advantage of fear psychosis, these people may plan to raise th cost of the common salt! You can never say about these people to what extent they can go for their own benefits!
Recently in India we had shortage of onions, which later on turned out to be a artificial shortage which was created by the middlemen or trader in the onion business! such things they do happen and common man is subjected to such tricks to get himself/herself entrapped into it!
I think this is also jut one of those tricks played by some one like that! So don't be panicked , Jut Chill...every thing will be fine soon! Thanks for the discussion!

This is true. There was once a controversy against soy milk. According to so-called "studies", instead of preventing cancer, hormone-based substances in soy actually helps create cancer cells.
And guess who financed the study? A dairy company!
However, it pays to drink soy milk with moderation because really, in life, everything has to be in moderation. Just because one thing is good for you doesn't mean it's good to take them in HUGE amounts. No!

Hi Dear Theresaaiza! I agree anything in excess is harmful! I am pleasantly surprised to know about the Soy milk controversy! In business people can go to any extent! They are hardly concerned about the welfare of people! They are only concerned with making the money, may it be then by doing anything, weather it is ethical or unethical! Thanks for responding!

People are natural born survivalist. They will do anything to prolonger their life. They will lie and steal to do this. Hording of salt is nothing comparing to other attributes that we human are capable of. Hording is only done by the cowards and people low self esteem, but when it is done in a large scale it is done by unscrupulous greedy businessman to raised prices and make bigger profit.
Check your local markets is there a real shortage or are people simply getting the supply but at a controlled way. We still can live without salt, anyway too much salt can ruin your health. Try other natural substituted for flavoring, reduce your salt usage by making food that does not require salt or use less salt. Stop cooking salted bake fish or chicken. We can do it.....
As for the medical properties of salt. Yes salt have many properties than can help in preventing and cleansing. But do you need so much that there are none left for others?
I to want to live. If you do this You will be the only one left living on this earth. Than how are you going too live????? Human needs companion. If you are alone can you live?????

Hi,
I do saw this news on the TV this afternoon...It is kinda crazy that
people are rushing to buy salt to keep stock at home. But that is human
being. Because salt is necessary in almost every cooking dishes, that is why
people are stocking up salt at home,in case, there is really
a shortage of salt in future.

People do panic when they are worried over something. I am glad that you are not. There's no use in getting word and causing more trouble. Hoarding salt might result to the increase of its cost. Remember the basic principle of supply and demand in economics.
In my case i wouldn't be worried at all because i am a believer of God.

I never think about future. I always give importance to present. I don't want to increase my BP by thinking of what happens in future. Many things happen in this world unexpectedly. We can't say that what will happen tomorrow for us. So I don't want to buy and keep salt for future.

I don't think we should worry about a shortage of salt. We should be worried about bigger things, such as the state of our country, crime, our children's safety, endangered species, and the purity of our water, to name a few.
Salt is something we are not to have too much of, it causes problems in our systems if we intake too much. The experts are always telling us to cut back on salt!
It is an essential component our body needs, but I feel this is not a time to panic. Even the food we eat already contains salt.

Hello youless. This morning one of my colleagues told me that she could not get any salt yesterday because of the very reason you mentioned about here. I could not believe it, but later I heard more people talking about this. Now I am starting to believe that salt might be out of stock in our local place. We are lucky that my wife bought two bags of salt a few days ago when we went to the supermarket for some food. We did not know that it would be out of stock. I wish that we could get salt as usual. Otherwise our life would be affected by it. Take care, youless.

They have reported locally here in the US of people running to heath food stores to get iodine in any supplement form they have. A local organic store had to put signs up explaining what they want to buy they do not carry and what they do have they'd have to consume very large amounts. No problem here finding salt though.

Hi, youless. I guess I am clueless on this one. I never knew that salt could prevent us from radiation. This is something that is very much new. I hope that this discovery has passed because I hope that there is more salt that is left on the shelves at the store.

Its crazy the way people horde things like that from fear. People here in the USA are doing crazy stuff because they are afraid from the radation coming here. Some meds to prevent the radation sickness. The thing is as i understand this iodine has to already be in your system before any contact with radiation or else its usless. If you live in hurricane area and they hear a hurricane is coming you can not find batteries. I have more candles than the average person just because i love candles but i have had to us them when the lights gone out. Better than batteries. Cheaper too.

Salt is so inexpensive here its ony about 50 cents for a carton thing of it. It takes me along time to go through one. People always do things like this hoard certain things where there is a crisis. Here anytime we get a big snow storm they run out of things in the stores like bread and milk etc. Its kind of ridiculous really.

hello. salt is very important especially in cooking. try to find alternative if salt is not available. the salt we have in the market are commercialized and made more healthy by adding iodine to prevent diseases or illnesses that is due to lack of iodine.
