Are you prepared for an earthquake?

Prayers for the people in Japan... Beside my bed are 3 huge glass frames. If there would be an earthquake while I'm sleeping, that would be dangerous. As I look upon my room lots of things will definitely fall and break. One of this days I need to fix them. Yesterday, I checked some stuffs needed in case of emergency like extra canned food, first aid kit, candles and matches, flashlight. I don't have extra mineral water to drink (that I got to prepare). Are you ready in case there would be an earthquake? How prepared are you?

I am a civil engineer and I am thinking at earthquakes all the time. In the bedroom I have all the furniture fixed in walls and I hope it will remain there in case of an earthquake. Things that are in the furniture are a real problem because they can fall and do some damage.

Your worrying about your room furniture and fixture which may be fallen to you that cause damage and enjury. Is it applicable to a person for worrying? My point is we don't know when it will happened may be 2 months from now or tomorrow. So in your case what is the best remove the furniture and fixture - for how long? So I think the better is pray God that give strength and protection for such kind of disaster. see you around

My first maybe reaction if an earthquake comes (hoping this won't happen) is to hide under a table. We have a dining table that is firm enough to hold my family together. Nobody knows but I always pray.

Hi santos mari chris: Being honest, I have to admit that I am not prepared for an earthquake. I live in an apartment and there are a lot of things that may fall. I think that if a disaster like this happend I'd just run and go downstairs and I'll keep on the street until everything ends. Just the idea of something like this happening scares me a lot. I hope God will take care of us but you are right, we have to be more prepared to face these things. ALVARO

I actually just started to think about this the other day and realized that our family is truly unprepared for an earthquake. You see, we have a lot of different decorations in our home that would be absolutely destroyed if there was an earthquake in our area. In addition to that, we are highly dependent on electricity so we would need to keep a lot of bottled water in our home because otherwise we would have no access to drinkable water and couldn't boil it to sterilize either.

I think im not because how can I be prepared if I didn't know when will this destructive calamity would take place? I am so much afraid of earthquake and tsunami so I just hope and pray that God will make the earthquake much weaker and non-destructive to all. All I knew is that I will surely do all the things possible, instructed by the proper authorities when this took place, and so God may help us all from now on anytime, anyday... God bless!

My first question is, how you can say the person is prepared in all kinds of disasters by buying more foods, checking your house, your worrying about tell me. If a person experienced an earthquake and he/she have enjured - we can say he/she is not prepared then if a person unharmed in same experience we can say he/she is prepared. Did we realized and ask ourself why it is happening? Did God have concern about it? If say so what preparation we need, around us or God first... see you around

Honestly, I am not ready for an earthquake. And I do not want to entertain the thought that I am preparing if ever there will be one. But I can't help it sometimes, I am just scared. I am not scared for myself but I am scared for my 1 year old kid. It will be so hard then. I did not do any physical preparations (that I gather the needed stuff and place it somewhere when it's easy to pull out in case) but I did some of mental preparations like where to get first aid stuff, where to hide, what to bring into safety and others.
