What would happen to the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant?

Philippines

In 1985, this power plant was suppose to open. Unfortunately, there were some defects that didn't pass the standards. Fossil fuels and other non-renewable energy sources are depleting. Do we need to revive the Nuclear power plant or close it forever because the Philippines can't handle a nuclear meltdown? What is your view?

Well we discussed this when I was in 4th year high school. Now I'm at 5th year college. From what my teacher told us. Mr. Oliva (God bless his soul he was very intelligent man from UP) he said the problem is not the quality of the structure and building the problem was our lack of knowledge about the matter, nuclear power is very dangerous we needed experts back then to handle the plant and we had none in the Philippines. We could have imported experts from other countries like Russia he said but our government never thought about that as a way. and I guess our governments decision was right. Why? The question of where can we dump our radio active waste materials for one is hard enough. To maintain the facility is another since our workers are not trained about nuclear power. Maybe in the future we can use nuclear power, when already have enough knowledge on that matter.

i think the nuclear power plant of the philippines is better left as it is. we cannot make it work, how can this country make it safe for the people? we are not even prepared for cases like strong typhoon and how can we be ready for anything in case something happens?

I think it not timely to put the issue alive for now. We can see an industrialized country such as Japan is quite helpless in averting a full nuclear meltdown and resources are being used with the help of many nations but still the meltdown is continuing on and cannot be stopped. What more in out situation that we cannot even repatriate our own countrymen from countries who are in trouble right now. Where do you think can we evacuate the locals of Bataan in case the meltdown happens. I am pretty sure Bataan is just a nearby province and would definitely reach Manila if that happens. I guess we can use other alternatives such us Wind like in Ilocos provinces and Solar instead of Nuclear. It may be costlier but at least they are pretty safe in cases like earthquake happens.

They should abandon it for good. If a first world country like Japan can not handle it on a big time crisis, I can't imagine how we gonna suffer if worst comes worst in out country. Gonna demolish it as soon as possible.

I heard it is to costly to fix it up. And I think it is too dangerous for Filipinos to handle. I heard there are talks about turning it into an amusement park instead!
