The Earthquake Warning System Worked, But...!!

The cost of such warning systems is enourmous, but do you think it is still worth it?? Remember, it can save many lives as knowing about an earthquake a few seconds before it strikes, can save many lives. Or should people move to safer places? Would it be a better solution? Here is a video I just saw about the advanced warning system: http://www.jwbrothers.org/videos/2944/japan%27s-earthquake-early-warning-system This is a video made by The Japan Meteorological Agency

not much ya can do with 30 second warnings. JUst like we have warning systems up in Tenn for tornados butt eh one that hit our home in 91 the tornado came in UNDER the warning system and house were gone before the whistles went off. As our house went over a 100 foot blackjack tree and smashed under teh hill withtthe tree on top and my daughter and her newphew lay under that tree! So ya stil cant tell if warning sysems are all that good .

Well, it looks like all warning systems are not that good.. I hope your daughter and her nephew made it.. I guess it is better to plan ahead and try to find a less risky place to live in, if possible.. Thanks for your response..

I have to say that I vote for the advance warning system. No only do I have family members living in earthquake territory,California, I have lived there myself and I have experienced minor and not so minor ones. Not everyone can live earthquake proof territories, so the warning system will definitely save many lives.

Hi, Angelgirl I am happy that you have not experienced disasters like the one in Japan. Maybe there should be some cooperation between everyone to move most people out of the riskiest zones before anything terrible happens. Nobody should live in places that have a risk of this kind of tsunami either..

It is very sad about any disaster that happens in any part of the world. We all can help even if it is in a small way.

Surely the Earthquake Warning System worked. The cost of warning systems are indeed enormous but what if you are caught unaware? Will they ever be of help at all? Well I would like to caught this paragraph from an article I just read which is believe is true and relevant to your discussion. "What happened in Japan is beyond anyone’s expectation. How come a country as advanced as Japan could be devastated just like that in an instant? How almost helpless did their modern warning system become for there was very slim warning time left in such kind of earthquake that occurred very close to the coast? How could their earthquake proof buildings be places of refuge when the unstoppable force of the strong and massive waves had already taken over? How could the the people get fast to the inland and higher ground when there were no previous hints that all these would come in the blink of an eye? Every one on that fateful day was definitely caught unaware and only God’s miracle helped the others to survive."... Hi, salonga I read the article, and I think we have been thinking some similar thoughts - I just finshed an answer here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2505538.aspx?p=1#1_14728241 The good news is that there is a solution for these disasters in the near future! Have a great day..

The cost of the single best very early warning system is zero!!! In every single earthquake & tsunami, there is this guy who monitors whale beachings & shark numbers around the world & informs governments in a very timely manner. He has never been wrong. He was right for the first ones near Africa & India, right for New Zealand & right for this one too. The governments have not learned to listen to international help yet. Many days before this last earthquake, whales were beaching & sharks had cleared the area... not one shark was there! It drives them absolutely nuts as the sounds mess up their sonar. I heard this on a radio interview this morning with the guy & I'm still going through the station to try & get a bead on him. I'll post it here when I find out more. No other system is worth a damn! It seems all our so-called solutions to all the world's crises are very costly & very inadequate. Keep an eye out for a natural disaster coming to your area via this link.

Wooww!! That sounds amazing.. I hope you find the link. It would indeed be easier to follow the behavior of the animals instead of inventing expensive systems that don´t work well when needed. I remember reading or hearing that some people were warned by the elephants when they fled up to higher places before the tsunami. I think it happened in Thailand and may also have happened in other places. There must be some signals that the animals can interpret, that human beings can´t understand even with advanced technology. I wait for the day when we start learning from the nature that our Creator has made so wisely.

Yes, it is wise to pay attention to warning because it can save life. With the impending destruction of the wicked, the worldwide preaching of God's Kingdom by Jehovah's Witnesses serve as a warning before the end comes.

You are right, holdingfast We should listen to warnings, as it can sometimes save our life. God has also warned us before He starts anything that involves human lives and the global preaching work should be taken seriously. A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 22:3 (New Living Translation)

Countries like USA are very earthquake prone. So, apart from Japan it is worth taking that it may be very likely to cause earthquake in some other places. If more information is needed please tell me.

Hi, rajenjoy, and welcome to myLot.. Yes, hopefully we can learn something about this disaster and avoid loss of human lives. There are many places that are rather safe, and if I lived in a high risk zone, I would move to a better place if I could. You are welcome to inform us more if you know some useful advice!!

buenavida not unless it gives more warning than 3o seconds with an earthquake of that magnitude and a tsunami to boot moving 500 miles in seconds. If it gave a twenty or thirty minute warning than yes but with the blast of a tsunami it is too expensive. but in some places like here in California it might indeed work. It may be worth it but not in Japan at this time. the devastation shows it did not really help. it might have worked but they did not have any time to flee anywhere. so it did fail really.

Hi, Hatley This was indeed a devastating disaster and that is why I would like to move the people to a safer place. It is very risky to have big cities in a zone like this. And above all they have to deal with the radiation risk now. There are so many smart inventors in the world, and many of them are using energy for weapons instead of inventing ways to make clean energy for us. What a waist of human capacity and wisdom..
