accepted? Maybe you have a little of each.
With people who have the same religion, I'm pretty open. We were talking though about how the cat I have now almost died and the Dr. said it's a good thing you brought the cat in when your did or it would have died. I thought to myself, "I know that, the cat told me that." My friend said, "If you had said that to your Vet, he would have thought you were crazy."
So I censor what I say, wear, and do except for when I'm at the multicultural store when someone is of similar beliefs, but even there, I'm very careful.
This weekend will be the Spring Equinox Celebration in which I will not do much censoring. Depending on who shows up, I won't censor me at all.
So do you have to partially or completely censor yourself some times, often, or all the time. What kinds of situations do you feel you can be yourself completely. In my case, mostly at home and with just a couple of friends.

I'm very lucky to live where I live.
I'm in Cornwall, in the Westcountry of the UK. which is a very Pagan area, and we're not in a minority here at all.
I've never hidden who I am. I wear a pentagram necklace, and have never so much as covered it for a job interview (if that's a good enough reason not to hire me, then it's fairly obvious that it would be a horrible place to work anyway)
where I work I deal with the public all the time, and I've had nothing but positive responses from the people who have noticed, and most people either don't notice or don't care.
I think people of differing religions should just respect the differences, and get on with their own lives without trying to lead others astray from their paths.

Last line,exactly!
Here there are too many people who are too willing to tell you that you'll go to a really hot place if you don't believe the same as them.
Pagans are really a small minority. Thanks and take care.

You'd have to go to Salem, Mass. for that to be true here.
Probably where we get the saying, "Wicked good!" My Dr. from Illinois said he'd never heard that until he came here.

I've been out of the proverbial "broom" closet for quite some time. I don't normally worry about what others think, and I am open about my beliefs when I am asked. Although I don't volunteer information unasked, I don't shy away from discussions either. I pretty much feel that if a person doesn't accept me for who I am, they aren't worth my time.

I live in a small community. a few hundred people. Trying to find people with similar beliefs isn't all that easy. Because of sub-zero weather and other trying conditions here, it's best to have many people to help you reguardless of their beliefs or yours. Take care.

I censor what I say. I think religion and politics are picky subjects and ones only close friends need to know about. I have been pretty open about my theories where our government is concerned. I hope people are being proactive. If I know people are of similar beliefs as far as my religious beliefs I will be alittle more open. For most God is a gibben and I respect that.

You mean God's a given or did he turn into a gibben? Just kidding. First time I read it, I was like, "There's a Gibben God." I'm still working on Osiris and Thor! Just teasing. I have all kind of fun stuff that I type.
Some people help others with healing around here and they ask the person to ask their higher power for help, then that leaves it up to the person what the name of the power is. I can deal with that. Take care

I can deal with that also. It is the ones that take it for granted you are a believer in God and start in on him that I have a problem.

I don't challenge anyones beliefs intentionally and by being very open sometimes that is what I feel like I would be doing. It can become very complicated. Everyone is very passionate about their religions and beliefs. Some people have a hard time accepting that anything else is right or even ok.
I wouldn't share with the vet a familar..lol..and I wouldn't share with a psychiatrist a present spirit either. What would be the reason really to do so?
I think a nice educating conversation is great with someone that really wants to know and discuss versus debate and try to convert.
Have fun!

It's just that sometimes I'd like to pray or do something and I have to not do it. I don't consider that challenging someone else's beliefs, but if I don't pray the way Jesus taught, I['m sure someone would consider me going to hell.
Someone on here said their vet has no problem with it, just assumes a very close relationship with a pet.
I had a social worker (sw)one time that asked me if I had any special powers and I looked at her weird. She said that many people who are LD do. I changed the subject or refocused it on my dying Mother. Anyway, my massage therapist (mt), I complained to that the sw was trying to get another diagnoses. The mt said I should have trusted the sw more because she believes in other things besides just what regular society believes.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I would have answered what I was really thinking or turned the tables and said, "So how long have you had patients with these delusions of grandeur?"

No..that's not challenging someone at all. I know we don't want to be openly critized, but who cares what people think? I mean..all and all..they are not supposed to be running around dishing out judgements, but I know they often times do. That is one of the many reasons I have no organazation.
Anyway..I bet they would have felt pretty uncomfortable if you had turned the tables on them..lol.

Exactly, they should read their own Bibles where it says Jesus is the judge, not them. Thanks and take care.

I am a very open person and true to all my beliefs, however I will not impose them on to anyone who has difference of opinion, the same way I would expect from others.
With regards to censoring sort of the same rule applies, if I know who the friends, people and or family then I will not censor unless of course I know in advance that their opinions differ. I have been know to change the subject once I realize the person does not share the mutual opinion.
Simply because I do not preach, I believe and I am not one who will try to pretend to convince and or impose on others.

I just would like to be able to go back to the meditations circles we used to have. I have to always say God or Creator. Can't say Great Spirit and I have to always be careful.
I liked the two weeks during the initiation into Good Medicine Society where I could say what I wanted, pray when I wanted and whatever way I wanted, etc. Now I feel like I have to Censor myself way too much and like it's too easy to have people see you as crazy or feel that if they don't believe the same as you, you're wrong or they worry that you think they're wrong or whatever.
I think we all have a piece of the puzzle. I have no problem with people praying and saying whatever is in their heart. I find it frustrating to not have it returned.

When it comes to my beliefs I find it extremely hard to explain them to other people as they don't quite fit into any one religion. I celebrate holidays that are popular or that my family believes I go to church with my family every easter even though they are not my beliefs but that of my parents. I don't feel I hide what i believe in but I also don't believe anyone really knows what i believe unless they have brought up the conversation with me my parents for example know I don't believe in their beliefs and they don't care to know anything past that so thats were we leave it.
I have told my vet on many occasions that my dogs left hip is hurting or his front right paw has been acting up again and she has asked me a few times how i know that has he been limping and I have just said no he has told me and she knows that i know my dog and she doesn't question what i say anymore as she believes we have a "special" connection. This after my old vet and me got in an argument when my boy poped his hip out and i went in and told the vet his hip was out and he asked did you see him do it? is he limping? and i stated "No, he told me his hip is out again" which i was then informed that I was wrong and he needed x-rays to know that...guess what $50 for x-rays and what do you know his hip was poped out. Thank god for my new very friendly vet who now when we go in for our regular checkups just asks me whats been bugging the little man to save time on checking things that arnt bugging him and focus on the problems (he go's in for chiro every 3 weeks)

I like your current vet.
Got the same problem with human Drs here, too. They cost us a fortune for nothing.

I never keep my beliefs undercover, I know for a fact that some of my friends think some of my beliefs are a bit weird but I don't care, especially when one of those beliefs starts making them think I have something..for an example my belief that feathers found in strange places at appropriate times can be a message from someone that has passed away...someone a few weeks ago suggested I write my experiences down, well I started and I could honestly write a book...but I never hide my beliefs even though I get funny looks sometimes...

it isn't their business, tell them that you researched the world's religions and joined the one that seemed to fit your beliefs best
That's what I did
There's a Pentecostal church near, but not too near, Maggiepie's place that sign says "that old time religion"
They don't even KNOW what "OLD TIME" means! Their talking that "Amen"ing and "talking in tongues" stuff, and that's very modern, less than a few hundred years old!

Where I am, people are always asking what religion I am and I don't think it's their business. Esp. if they think everyone who doesn't think similarly will go to a really hot place and have to convert me.
No, I don't go around telling people what my religion is. It's my business, but at the same time, it is America and I do wish I felt more like I was free to be with my religion as I please.

Hello Writersedge, as you it depends on. Well, I used to be like you. I didn´t want to argue with nobody... til I was 30. That I moved to this small city, and I did not know somebody. I refuged on Church. My parents are divorced, I had a new bornt when we arrived here, my husband didn´t have a job. I´ve been on active ministery from 15 years from now, but when we arrived here was a rough time. I looked to work (for free) at Charity, as I used to, in my home city, but there wasn´t this ministery at my neighborhood, so I began singing to help on liturgy.
And by times, I have felt that all the attendants to the mass, are my family. Because they hear my screamings (hahaha joke) and they suffer me... hahaha. But when I´m not with whom I feel comfortable I´m rather shy! Blessings!... Dainy

I do have my beliefs which are different from others of our common religion. But i just have it to myself.
But when i encountered somebody who shared the same beliefs as me, then i open it up. But other than that, i keep my beliefs to my family and closest friends only, because i have known them to understand why i do believe them to be so.

You're doing things a lot like I am, then.
It's just that sometimes I'd like to be as open as the greater society or live in one with similar beliefs to mine.
