Gone are the days where quality TV shows are aired in the Pilippines. Nowadays, there are only telenovelas both local and imported can be watched in the Philippine television that features drama, young love, missing child, missing parents, rags to riches, violence and Filipino versions of foreign movies. I don't have kids but I have a nephew and a niece, it's my niece who gets addicted to these TV junkies. I believe this was the influence of her nanny when she was young. Now that we are living out of the Philippines, I'm blaming my brother for subscribing to TFC. These TV shows has a very strong impact in the mind set of our youth.

I am also an Aunt as well and does not have any kids. I am allowing my niece to watch what I am watching. It is not that because she wanted to but because it just so happened that I am watching then my niece is trying to understand the detail. So far what I like about my niece is that she keeps on asking me some questions about the detail of each scene. She doesn't always watch telenovelas when I am watching. Usually she is watching playhouse disney therefore the very strong impact to her mind set does have the good result like she is learning especially in correct grammar on how she express herself.

That's good that you can still control her, with the case of my niece, i can not prevent her anymore to watch these telenovelas and she's getting addicted to them. I'm blaming my brother for subscribing to the Filipino channel that airs this telenovelas instead of subscribing to international channels that's worth watching.

I allow my children to watch telenovelas , yeah I allow them but it's them that do not watch it or just watch a few segments, I think kids today are wise and discerning and know if things are already turning "corny", they have their own channel like discovery, animal planet, and some cartoons like Disney, cartoon network, nickelodeon etc..., they just have to be guided so they do not get addicted especially with cartoon channels, I give them time and it's always lessons first, the same rule goes for computer games

Hi louievill! you're lucky indeed that you were able to guide your children in choosing the shows worthy to be watched. Discovery channel is very educational and one of my favorite as well as national geographic, that is if i have the chance to watch the TV.....cartoons are entertaining rather than crying on a drama show LOL! But cartoons also need parental guidance. keep u the good workg...cheers!

I do not think it is only Filipino Telenovelas that are doing that but all telenovela of some sort so you cannot just blame the Filipinos creating this junk you are saying. I guess where ever you go you can find this junk and there are even worst abroad since I know Playboy has a channel already and is being aired to some local Cable TV there. So I think you should not blame only the Philippine TV as airing non quality shows since it is everywhere where you are living.

I agree with you that it could be found everywhere as long as there are people patronizing them....so if you are a parent, would you allow your kids to watch them? thanks for commenting and happy mylotting!

For me telenovelas are not really bad especially with the kids. It's very rare to watch telenovelas if the school classes is going on, sometimes we watch only Friday but Monday to Thursday, a big NO, I will not allow my kids to watch telenovelas during that days. Now is the start of vacation, I will allow them but should no kissing scene in the drama. It's not bad as long as you watch also with your kids, tell them what is bad and good in the character. It always flash in the screen the words PARENTAL GUIDANCE IS ADVISED, if you see that, please guide as our kids to watch the telenovela.

Hi annateresa! That's good that you are able to prevent your kids from watching telenovelas during school days. They should be doing their homework and preparing for the next day's lesson. If I am mom, I wouldn't allow my kids to watch those. I don't want them to be influenced by life's drama, but with a different theme, maybe I would. Thanks for responding and happy mylotting!

Half of the show on TV is telenovelas. Wanted you can not ban watch. To watch and learn how to be romantic, telenovelas it is better than horror films where the only blood flowing. Similarly, children will grow up and watch what they want to! So onliy for time wu can aloww something Have a nice day!

Hi sexyice! It also depends on the telenovela but those shownn in my country is something I am not happy about and I wouldnt let my children, if I have, to watch them. I would rather make them busy with other activities that would contribute to their intellect. Maybe that's why I don't have kids LOL! Thanks for responding. Cheers!

i don't have children as of today but someday if i'll be blessed to have i certainly won't allow them to watch telenovelas, there's some scene that child minds can't understand plus it's too much drama to be sink in a kids mind, i'll prefer to let them watch cartoon shows and some shows that they could learn from. plus telenovelas would really upset their young mind to see the sin of the world

Hi xien2xien! Me too, in case I have my own kids, I would be very strict with the TV programs that they would be viewing as I believe that these programs influence their young minds. There are a lot of educational TV shows that they can view but not dramas and love stories. thanks for responding and happy mylotting!

Well I think parents should allow their kids to watch telenovelas, but with their guidance, they must select or choose themes that is suitable for their children :-)

Yeah, I know where you coming from. I'm not a parent yet, but wherever I see my neighbor's children gather around the television just to watch noon time shows, I just can't help my self to wonder what kind of culture these parents are molding there kids into. I remember one elemetary pupil was asked what she would want to be when she grows up, she said, "I want to be a sexbomb dancer!" These where the days when the sexbomb dancers were popular. When it comes to telenovelas, parents who patronized these programs don't know that they're allowing their children to be molded by a culture that has no connection in real life but only exist in the minds of the writers. And the parents ask questions how their daughter gets pregnant? If all parents will not be vigilant and are not choosing what programs they let their children feed on, we're breeding a generation of mediocre lifestyle.
