These are my thoughts on the multiple reasons to switch to a Linux-Based Distribution. I'm currently using Ubuntu, a very popular distribution of Linux. I definitely support Ubuntu, and all of the other Linux-Based Distributions. They cause the user to really to get know their computer, and they teach users a lot as far as the way that computers interact with the owners(and other computers.) If you don't think that getting to know your computer better sounds appealing, there's plenty of distributions, just find the one that you think fits you best. There is literally a Linux Distribution for every purpose, whether you're an author, a musician, a producer, a programmer, a teacher, or you spend your time on the computer some other way, you will find a distribution that you love.
At first you may need help with the transition from Windows to Linux. If this is the case, then either boot your Linux distribution from a LiveCD, or you can dual boot your computer. Dual booting is when you have two different operating systems on your computer. Most Linux Distributions will come with a Grub Menu installed, which allows you to choose which operating system you would like to boot to, every time you turn on your computer.
As far as security concerns, Linux-Based Operating Systems are the way to go. There's no need to be worried about a virus or anything of the sort, because in Linux you basically control everything that goes on. There's a program for everything, without the memory-wasting, flashy, expensive programs that are the biggest downfall of the Windows Operating Systems. In Linux, everything is free to use, download, install, uninstall, without having to worry about trials, monthly fees, or anything of the sort.
The difference between Linux and Windows:
Windows uses a computers memory; Linux Utilizes it
If you decide to take my advice and install a Linux-Based distribution, and need help with your new operating system, just post, or send me a message and I'll be glad to help.
Thanks for reading,
Luke

You are correct in saying that most Linux distributions aren't that great for High-end video games, but I've got a friend who plays World of Warcraft on Ubuntu 10.10, and has never complained about it. I haven't tried it for myself, but now that you've said something about that, I'm way too interested in the subject to not test it out.
Thanks for the response,
Luke

Thanks for the input. I believe Linux-Based Distributions will become the most successful operating systems. People are getting fed up with Windows, due to the lack of customization, the vulnerability to viruses, the constant updates that limit your abilities, and the fact that the price of Windows Operating Systems continues to rise with each new release.
