Just last week, I guess, almost all in the Philippines, have been sent or informed about a text saying “to close all windows because Japan’s Nuclear radiation might affect everybody too in the Philippines” .
My in-laws who were at home then , when they received the text, closed all windows and stayed inside the house. But when they opened the TV it was flashed that a text scam like that, is spreading. Only then, did they realized they were scammed.
Had I been texted that, I wouldn’t believe it because Japan is so far from us. What about you guys?

I couldn't agree more. I had goosebumps when i read the SMS becuase if we connect the scenarios together, it's very possible that the radiation could really affect us since Japan is very near us. That SMS scare may not be true as of this time but as the danger of radiation is Japan escalates, it's just a matter of time before we will be affected not unless they can do something to control it down.

I'm not afraid of that at all. These days there have been panic buyings of iodized salt in many big cities in China, the people thought that the salt could help ward off the radiation poisoning from Japan. But i never believed it and China government has enough ability to deal with it.

Correct! Sometimes we have to use logic to some others are trying to convey.
That way, we cannot just be afraid that this and that will do something harmful. It's not nice to live in fear always.

Sorry, if it was just lately that i have awarded the BR. I happen to see at my unresolved discussions that i still have lots of discussions wherein the BR is not chosen yet.
So there, i chose to give the BR marks.
Welcome my friend, you deserve it.

I was not able to receive such text but my sister did. She told me about it and I just laughed because of the succeeding phrases saying that one should put betadine on one's neck because it is the first part of the body to be affected by nuclear radiation. lol. Furthermore, it is quite not possible because of the far distance of Japan from the Philippines.

What a funny , stupid and irritating way to scare people. I just hope those scammers will receive bad karma of what they did.

Better scam, than a real one.You must know that there is not "far".All over the world can be touched by the radiation. We pray it wouldn't happen.

It was scary good thing I watch the news because you know there are a lot of scare text they send especially during crisis. I don't know why some people do that.

Hi SIMPLYD
Though I am not at Philippines, I am concerned and would have fallen a victim of that text message if I had not known that these radiation stuff tend to die or phase out as they spread. If not, we would all have been affected from the Atom Bombs that were dropped on Japan during world war II.
Unfortunately people try to spread more scares using such technology for fun

So, even in your country the text scam also happened!
Good thing, most of us uses logic and initiative to prove the veracity of the news.
How sad that there are people who loves spreading fear.

No. Why? I would only believe what experts say and not easily believe with text messages. There are a lot of scams and misinformation circulating around and that spreading text messages are so easy to do. I would still believe the experts say and not mere text messages. I wont stress myself out with something not worth believing.

Correct Jennbart. Am like you too. I don't easily believe in those , unless i have verified them as true and possible.

Hi symlyd,I from India and same kinds of rumours are spreading here through SMS and mails.Actually severity of radiation depends on the concentration of radiation. It is true that radiation can reach upto the nearby countries of Japan and it depends on the direction of wind. But it will be more diluted and not able to harm human being. But it could be dangerous for Japan.Lets pray to god for Japan.

I am amazed at how systematics the Japanese are in dealing with the radiation. They are now doing all that they can do to subdue the situation.
Let's all pray for all of them to surpass such crisis.
