Saying 'poo' to shampoo, among other things.

How many of you guys out there in internet-land have ever thought about just going without shampoo and conditioner, using just plain ol' H20 to clean your hair. Personally, I am passed the 3 week mark of not using any now, and, I've got to say... I loves it! My hair is fuller, stronger, and of better texture. It was pretty tough starting out, because the body is used to excreting excess amounts of oil(due to the use of shampoo), to preserve the hair- but after a while it picks up on the new routine and your hair no longer gets excessively greasy(even if you go a day or two without washing it). Among not using shampoo, I have given up soap(for about half a year now)-it has made a huge difference in my complexion, especially on my face. Now, my next useless hygienic to knock-off is going to be shaving cream- I've got myself a couple of straight(cut-throat) razors and will just be using plain ol' water with them too. Your thoughts....

I've been using baking soda (2 tablespoons to a pint of water) as a shampoo and I really like it. My hair has a lot more body now and looks fuller and is easier to style. I have long hair with natural curl and it doesn't tangle as much now that I'm not using shampoo. I hardly ever use soap on my face and when I do, it's a very mild one. I'm not sure about shaving cream, though. It sounds like it could be dangerous to drag a razor over your skin without any lubricant.

I didn't know that about rosemary; I'll have to try it. It kind of makes sense about not using shaving cream but I'm still hesitant. Of course, it took me a year before actually deciding to not buy shampoo any more, so I'm not what you call an early adapter!

I actually started out using baking soda, to sort of wean off shampoo. Then I made my own mix of cleaning solution out of boiled rosemary(then later I added in some fresh green tea leaves, but, I'd just stick with the rosemary). Doesn't so much help with cleaning(rosemary) as it does with benefiting your scalp, it enhances your hair production, thicker fuller hair, shine etc.... I am going to use it every other day now I think due to it's benefits- I am going to try a bunch of other herbs too. Actually, not using shaving cream is supposed to make a person get less nicks(if using a straight razor)- and it is supposed to benefit the skin, as it removes old skin cells, making the skin smoother(deters aging...).

Hi. wiggles18. I have used just water on my face to shave with. I don't use any shaving cream or soaps too. As for my hair, I have not stopped using shampoo at all. I need shampoo so that I can clean my hair really well. My hair is very thick and greasy and I need a shampoo that is going to clean my hair really well. I can't do without my shampoo. I also don't wash my face with facial soap or facial cleansers or scrubs like I used to. I find out that my skin can be just as beautiful with just using plain old water.

My hair is so thick I couldn't put a comb through it, and it worked out fine for me(plus, it was very, very greasy- not anymore though)

Not sure I could go without shampoo and conditioner I don't think just water would be enough, I never use soap on my face but I think soap is a must.

None of those things are a 'must'.

Huh I have never tried this, I have thought about it but didn't think it would be a good idea. And plus I really like my products that I use. I do stick with the organic and safer products though.

I'd be weary of even the organic ones- a lot of them have stuff in it which would surprise you.

Actually, I haven't used soap on my face in years. Maybe that's why people still think I am anywhere from 25-35 even though I am 51. Most of the time, I shampoo my hair maybe once a week and I usually don't have a problem with greasy hair. I seldom use a razor (although I need to). Sorry if I gross you out with this description. Have a great weekend!

hi, they said that shampooing our hair everyday is really bad so i only used shampoo every two days, but i always used hair conditioner so that it will protect and repair my hair from damages in pollution and other chemical that found outdoors.

Your too right! My routine in cleaning my hair is cleansing my hair with shampoo and conditioner every other day. I realize that is much better than having a shampoo and conditioner every day. Cause the moisture and oil of my hair will wash out after a one day of without shampoo..

My hair looks healthier when I shampoo it every other day instead of having every day. In my intermediate and high school years, I used to apply conditioner every day but in minimal amount so as not to make it look greasy or sticky and it may attract more dust to stick on the hair strands. I still cannot imagine myself taking a bath without using shampoo and soap.. =0 I'll not be comfortable with that but we never know if it really works unless we try it. I don't use razors for I belong to the race with minimal and fine hair. It doesn't bother me. =)
