in my case, everytime i go to the bookstore and found this kind of books, i felt so uneager to read it. maybe because of the pages and writings which is not very inspiring. i don't know what is wrong and i know that this is not a proper attitude for a book lover.. lol. at present, i am still searching for a type of book that will inspire me to broaden my horizon..

I'm of the opinion that once you've read one self-help book, you've read them all. I know there must be some exceptions out there, but I haven't come across one yet. You're better off reading a psychology textbook or something like that. Most self-help books give you psychology in a diluted form, with a fancy title.

Hi Liliac: I have worked with an editorial company and sometimes that's right but in my personal experience, I have noticed that you need these kind of words in some points when you don't know how to continue with your job or how to find a good idea, etc. I don't always read these books but when I feel inspired to do I try to take all the good stuff and the advices of the writer of this book. Well, to each his own. You've probably come across some better self-help books than I have.

You want a formula for success and not the usual inspirational or self-help book? Try reading proverbs in the bible: wisdom for success. I hope it can broaden your horizon. I do like self-help books as well, and still the bible is the overall authority in teaching man about wisdom and success with man and others. Hope it helps you too.

It's okay to be turned off by certain book genres. I don't think it makes you any less of a book lover, just a regular person with regular tastes and interests. Personally I can't stand horror or romance novels. I'm not a big reader of non-fiction either and I like self-help books even less. So no, not a reader of the formula for success books.

Just tell them you're interested. I'm sure they'll understand. I bet there's books that you adore that they don't like.

I find self help books boring too. I don't know why these books even become bestsellers. Haha. For the most part, some self help books, I already know or already been practicing what they're saying, so there's no point in wasting time and money for books like that. Some, though the concept is really new to me, is written in the most boring fashion ever that I find myself falling asleep after reading a page.

Yeah I know and I feel the same too. Most of those books look really uninteresting and unattractive lol I don't know why. I am not very interested in those kind of books to be honest. I would read some novels instead.

These books are great and all, most especially those which the authors share their successes, however, do keep in mind that reading is different from doing it. It's the implementation that counts. :)

hizills go get some mystery books and some of Sue graftons books and Mary Higgins clark too. Enough already with the self help as you need some reading for fun and enjoyment now. Even Agatha Christie could bring you into a whole new field of books and have fun.read Stephen King books too and well just go to a bookstore and browse in the fiction section. theres tons of good reading there. try Erma Bombeck for humor too. and read The child called it and the man called Dave this will bring you to know and be glad for allyou have and for loving kind parents.

Hi zills: I lusually don't read these "formula for success" books but sometimes is good to know what the succesful persons are thinking. If the book is a good source of inspiration why not? I think we all need to hear the voice of the experience. Maybe if you don't like these books- sometimes they are quite boring and repeat the same things you can find your own way to create a formula just for you but in general is always good to take a note of the things that the persons that have success have done. I strongly agree with tiffnkeat. The Bible contains stories that teach a lot of many diverse things. And ancient as the this book may be, the values it teaches can still be applied in the modern world. Values of efficiency, morality and most of all LOVE. Read the stories of Abraham who risked a lot. Learn from Job's amazing dedication. And many many more individuals in the Bible. But if there's a story you must read fully and deeply it should be of Jesus' who showed the world how to live. =)
