In the world there are some very popular sights like the pyramids of Egypt, the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Taj Mahal in India.
Some flights are very popular so the price is very cheap. Like London to Delhi is a route that many airlines go on which brings the price low. On a journey from London to Bogota only Iberia and Air France fly on that route. It would be a lot more expensive to fly via the USA.
Have you been to a sight that is popular? If so which one?
Did you ever get a cheap flight due to the route being popular?
Have you ever had to pay a lot for a journey due to not many airlines going there?

To answer the last question first: about every time I leave this place! :-)
There's 3 airlines going from Trondheim, but there's not a lot of direct routes so often more than half the ticket is the flight from Trondheim to Oslo.
If you get tickets well in advance it's quite cheap to fly to London, and even cheaper to fly from London and here if you fly on "typical" long-weekend days. Seems like there's more people in Trondheim wanting to go to London than the other way around.

I will never forget asking a travel agent for a one way flight from London to Helsinki. She asked where is that? Yes not many Brits go up to Scandinavia. They like to seek the sunny destinations. It is lovely that it is possible to get a cheap flight from Trondheim to London if you book months ahead.

It's a pity really. Not that Trondheim is that exciting, but both Stockholm and Helsinki are lovely cities. Never been to keen on Oslo, too big but not really a big city. I'd love to go back to Iceland again, there's actually direct flights now. Makes sense, Reykjavik is straight out from Trondheim.
Have you been on Iceland? If you go, make sure you take a flight that follows the south coast and get a window seat on the right side of the plane on your way there or the left side on your way back. Lovely views of the whole south coast :-)

It is excellent that you have seen the Taj Mahal. It is a dream of mine to go and see that.
I have seen Petra in Jordan, the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Universal Studios, Disneyland and Hollywood in Los Angeles plus Canada Place, Gas Town and Stanley Park in Vancouver.

I've seen the pyramids and the Sphinx in Egypt....but I'm not sure if we got cheaper tickets since I was a young girl at the time and the planning was done by my parents.
We were at Jaipur, India during the Kite Festival. We got cheaper tickets because we booked the tickets a couple of months earlier during Childrens' Day and we got free tickets for them.
Sadly, I'm yet to visit the Taj Mahal. We planned to do it this year but not sure if it will happen.

I think the cheapest deal flight wise I got was one to the Canaries as that is a very popular destination and the most expensive is the flight to Murcia next week, it cost me less flying the LA, the prices are ridiculous at the moment. Think the only famous sights I have seen are the Eiffel tower and Stonehenge. I would love to go to China and see the Great Wall and to Egypt for the Pyramids but now I have a renewed passport who knows where it may take me. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie. Yes the Canary Islands are cheap to fly to. I am sorry to hear that your flight to Murcia cost a lot. You see the airport tax, fuel surcharge and security charges add loads to the actual airfare. Prices are so high at the moment and this concerns me. I hope that you will travel to many places on your renewed passport like the Great Wall of China and the Pyramids of Egypt. Maxine.

The cheapest flight I got among my travels is Muscat-London-Newcastle flight which I got through British Airways promotion in 2007. The promo was not due to a popular destination in the UK but an airline promotion for a limited time. My travel from Muscat to Cairo in 2006 was on a normal airline rate. I was able to get a competitive rate with MNL-LAX route but not due to a popular destination in LA but because of the volume of passengers traveling from the Philippines to the USA. All other routes I took in the past were not on a cheap rate due to the popularity of the destination. I think these deals are given mostly on first world countries where the citizens are capable of traveling frequently for leisure. The travel agents could offer good airline rates as there are volume of people who would like to travel for leisure.

I love it when I can travel on an airlines promotion. I am really pleased that you got a great deal flying Muscat to Newcastle via London. I know it is pricey to fly from London to Manila so it seems just as high for the Manila to Los Angeles route. At the moment some flights are flying a quarter to half full so they could do some low fares to fill their planes to full.

Hi Maximax,
Where to start!
The popular sites that I have been to are:
DisneyLand, Universal studios, Hollywood, L.A and all it has to offer, Marilyn Monroes resting place, Vegas, Grand Canyon, New York and its sights, Niagra Falls, and all the major tourist sights in te following capitals - Paris, Vienna, Moscow, Rome, Bangkok, Phnom Peng, London.
My first trip to the West coast of America was back in the days when Laker airlines flew there at cost cutting prices. Yes, that was for me!
The most expensive trip I have ever taken was to New York. I left from Southampton to New York on the QEII, 5 days at sea, 3 days in N.Y and the a flight home on Concord. That sure was some trip!!!

Hi there, I have been to lots of "popular" sites--it is quite easy when you live near New York City and Philadelphia, and a couple of hours away from Boston and Washington, DC! But I have been to many others, too, such as: Stonehenge, Tower of London, London Bridge, NewGrange, Ring of Kerry, Hollywood, Alcatraz, Niagara Falls, the Vatican, the Leaning Tower of Piza, the Las Vegas Strip, and Lucy the Elephant, in Margate, NJ!
This summer we are going to another famous site--the Grand Canyon. Yes, it will be hot, but after the winter we have had, the extra heat will be ok with me.
The best "airline deal" we ever found (which was a few years ago) was 2 round-trip tickets to London from NY, $200 apiece. We used Marriott miles to pay for our hotel, so it was a VERY inexpensive European vacation!
