What to do when I am being "negatively" rated?

@ Lamb and Diana: I wonder if they simply can't (or daren't) fiddle with the figures that the algorithm generates. I do know that both the earnings algorithm and the ratings/quality algorithm are quite fearsomely complicated (and may well have been put together by a team which no longer exists). Having worked in the computer industry, I know that you don't call in the programmers to meddle with things that are working well on the whole - barring a few glitches - unless you can spare the resources and feel that it's a very high-priority issue. Since earnings are clearly the most important thing and that does seem to work fairly, playing with the other algorithm (which is stated to be connected with the earnings one) could easily cause more trouble than it's worth. My reaction/solution to this has, for a long while, been to ignore the vagaries of 'ratings' as they affect my star or position in any interest category. I just feel that they don't represent anything much that relates to reality except in a very broad sense.

I had an exchange in PMs with GAA a few weeks ago where I pointed out some obvious things that are happening. He saw the problem and said he would pass it on to those above. I have no reason to doubt thst he did his part but 'those above' just seem disinterested

Thanks for replying, owlwings and mysdianait. owlwings, I've been noticing how your and a few others ratings are fluctuating, I was wondering why it is happening to you but now I understand it. From last 3-4 months, I was ignoring so many discussions where I felt the person who had initiated the discussion will not like my comment. I don't really care about the rating or any number but I do want to know the reason why was I rated negatively and how can I improve myself, if mylot wants to grow they will have to correct these flaws in their system. GAA should try to help the users who are active here on mylot. "mysdianait", could you please inform the admin that if they are not taking any action against this thing, I am sure, this website will see boring and meaningless discussions where people will say "Yes" to everything to make sure that others will not neg them. Please add the following lines on my behalf to GAA in your PM: "I use mylot as an alternative of Facebook/Orkut, if all these things are happening here, how long will it take me to get an account in Facebook/Orkut?"

dollar what I sometimes do is say I am going to agree to disagree with you but I am saying I do respect your viewpoint, and again this is just my own opinion so please respcect it as I respect yours.it seems to p;lacate people when I have a different view point. I never try to change the other person's view, I just give mine and sometimes state whry and let them know I do respect their view point too.I have never had another bvout of my ratings dropping down like that again. A few points flucuation is normal but not a drop like you have had.I am plusing you here and all the other responders too. really you are supposed to voice your own opinion and we are supposed to be respectful adults and honor your opinion as your own.

Believe me, you are not alone in your feelings. My rating dropped 2 points overnight and i was very upset about this, even though i will express my opinion to those i may disagree with, like you i do not insult or ridicule anyone and am very respectful in my replies to any discussion i've started. So i can just imagine how upsetting this must be for you, having your rating drop by so much and it is a very helpless feeling since we as members can't do anything about it.The only thing i can do right now is rate your discussion (+) and hope it helps a little in getting your rating up where it should be.i'm sure other members here will do that as well.

Thanks for replying, jujunme. If my rating is decreasing, I will try to improve the way I put across my words. When I joined mylot, I had a 7 rating, it has fluctuated from 7 to 8 so many times and I agree that I might have made some mistakes, however, in this case, I would certainly say that it's not my fault that will cause my rating to decrease 7 points in one day . I don't bother about the rating but yes I do feel helpless when I see that someone is targeting me here...

Hi LetranKnight25, After discussing on this topic for one day, I feel like, it's because of our irresponsibility, if I ask myself, how many times I rate a good comment as +, I won't get a good answer from myself. I used to feel glad by giving a "+" to all the comments in my discussion, however, now I feel that it is not sufficient, everyone should get what they deserve, I mean, if a comment is not bad, it deserves a "+" because it takes time and efforts from someone to type those words. At the same time, there are a few childish people here on mylot, who either don't understand the language properly or may be, are very inferior therefore, to overcome their frustration on other mylotters who are genuinely expressing their own opinion, it is a must for us rate all the good comments as "+" and with such an experience (13 points in less than 7 days), I am sure that I won't forget it.

ally12, I 100% agree with you. Yesterday, I was really angry and felt like kicking the one who is doing this to my profile. However, later on after reading all the comments, I am feeling much better now. I've concluded that mylot admin is not going to do anything in this regard and that is why he has not even bothered to add a comment to this discussion. For him this website is business and it is just another discussion. Senior members have already discussed on this issue with the mylot admin and they've found that nothing can be done for this. Now we have two options, keep suffering due to the presence of a few mentally retard people or be responsible and rate the genuine and good quality comments with a +. I've decided to correct myself and I will certainly use more and more + button for good comments and this way it will help others who are like me to deal with these mental people. All I can say here is, I would try my best to be the part of the solution. Hopefully others will also understand it and come up with their own ideas to add more values to this place rather than being victimized by a few mental people.

Yes, I was disappointed when I first noticed the decrease in my rating (within last 7 days it has decreased from 87 to 74, 4 points from yesterday ). But after getting comments from senior members like you, I am really happy. I have read all the comments in this discussion and now I know that this issue has already been raised to the admin and he was unable to do anything. I would say, okay fine!! If they can't do anything, I will do it myself. Though, I can't do it for my profile (I don't care about it), if I note down 5-10 friends in my friend list every week and make sure that they get a + for their "good quality" comments, it will certainly help the system and others who are like me. I know, alone I can't deal with all these mentally retard people who can see only (-) button but I am sure my efforts will give me satisfaction. Thank you for taking time and adding your comment!

Hello DoctorDidi, Thank you for your response. If you move the mouse pointer and hover it on the star that is listed just before your user name in any discussion, you will see the rating number as a tool tip. For me now it is showing 78 , color of the star will change if the rating decreases less than 75 and it will increase if it increases above 85, similarly it changes for other 10 digits from 0-10 (e.g. 15-25, 25-35, 35-45 etc.). For me it changed from 86 to 80 in one day and now it is still decreasing when I have not used mylot for a last few days, I am really wondering who could be the person so much interested in my profile.

Very simple. Think positive and be optimistic in life. Take those negatives as challenges and stepping stones to success NOT stumbling blocks to defeat. Create in you a personal conviction that would continue to bring out the best in you despite the negative ratings you receive. Believe in your self and never stop achieving greater heights. No one else knows better than you except YOU! Remember, there is always an end in everything. If persistence is considered, then soon those negative ratings will eventually turn out to be positive. You just have to wait for your time and of course striving while waiting. One more thing, we are really living in a world of uncertainties and discontent. You can never ever please everyone. Another is, each individual is crafted uniquely different from the other and no two individuals are the same or equal neither twins! So keep the ball rolling, DD!

LOL how funny you are apologizing to me for not disturbing me on here. I love mylot if you comment on my discussions or I come across yours I dont consider that disturbing each other because thats what we are here for. Well hopefully all the positives I've given to you on this discussion and the comments you left on your discussion will help counteract at least one person who is rating you negatively. I dont know why people have to be mean like that. The lower your ranking score the less money you earn.

Hi shaggin, I am sorry for not disturbing you here on mylot. If you read all the comments here, you will feel that I am really very very good in disturbing people here. That's why someone is negging my comments. Someone is loving me so much here that they are following my comments and fortunately they are negging my comments otherwise, I would have got more than 100 by now. (87-74 = 13; 87+13 =100) I always add a comment to any discussion only if I am interested, so in most of the cases, my comments are more than 3 lines. Thank you for taking time in adding your comment!

You know what, when I initiated this discussion, I was very angry and I was feeling helpless. Now after discussing on this topic for one day, I feel much relaxed and I've also realized that it has been some time since I've not discussed on any topic other than some serious science fiction, computer issues etc. When I joined mylot it was all about fun and now I've just realized that the fun was missing from last a few months. Today, I really enjoyed discussing on this topic, I've got a few more friends and everyone has their own idea to improve this place, which is good for us. Now I do understand that giving "+" to a good comment is my responsibility and I should be doing it on priority.

ebuscat, to be honest, I don't believe or care about this rating and the star, there are n number of 'real' things in my life that I have to take care of, however, I initiated the discussion to show this flaw in the mylot system to everyone else here who have or will experience(d) this problem and also to the mylot admin who 'can' do something for this issue.

That's something new for me, lets hope that something like this exists here on mylot.

madp_071983, as far as this rating system and my rating is concerned, I am really not bothered about these things, however, I do want good people to be here on mylot so that we can maintain better understanding while discussing any topic. In my case, I won't mind even if it goes down to 0, I will be here and as usual commenting in all the discussions of my interest but I am sure there are so many good people who will feel bad if it happens to them and they might leave the website, therefore, I felt like I should raise this concern and see if mylot management can do something regarding this issue. Your suggestions are very good and encouraging, I will certainly try to remember these things while dealing with real problems of my life. soapies1973, you know what, I am really pissed off... Why in the world someone is doing this kind of BS, I feel bad about your rating, sometimes, I wonder why someone has less than 60 rating here on mylot, no one does anything so bad that they will get less than 60 rating, it all depends on what kind of people you interact with here on mylot, it seems that there are a few useless people who are following you and as a result of that, you've got this rating. The worst thing is, we can't do anything about it. Let's see if mylot admin will take any action against it.
