I have seen a story from one forum a few days ago. It is in Chinese so I am going to translate it into English to share it with you.
' This story happened in Italy. One late night, it was raining really heavily and Ann walked back to home from work after the restaurant that she worked at had closed. The street was abnormally empty that night. She could see nobody walking on the street. Suddenly, when she had walked passed a car park, she heard somebody following her. She was quite scared and when she saw a black man when she turned back. Within a second, her head was hitted by the man using a hard substance and she fainted. When she woke the next day, she discovered that she was naked and she was very frightened because she thought she has probably been raped by that black man. She told this to her husband and they were both very upset after this incident.
Not long later, Ann became pregnant and she did not know what to do with her husband because they thought that this baby would be the black man's baby. However, they still hope that the baby would be between the two of them instead of the black man's child. Yet, when the baby was worn, she had black skin and this showed that she must be the black man's child because none of their relatives is black people. Their neighbours found that strange as well because both Ann and her husband are white people and they have got a child with black skin. Every time when people ask them about this, they said that because one of Ann's grandparents was with black skin and therefore the girl had inherited the gene from her great-grandparent.
When the girl was around four, they discovered that the girl had blood cancer and they had been asked by the doctor to undertake a test to see if their bone marrow matched with the girl's so that she could be cured. However, both of theirs did not match the girl's. So, the doctor suggested that they should ask all their relatives to have the blood test to find out if any of the relatives had got the suitable bone marrow for the girl. The couple found that uncomfortable because they knew that the chance for finding a suitable bone marrow would not be high because Ann's husband was not the girl's real father. Yet, they still asked all their ralatives to take the test because they loved the girl very much and did not want her to suffer from the disease. Yet, once again, none was suitable. Ann felt very depressed at this moment because she could not save her daughter.
Then, a few days later, they had decided to tell their secret to the doctor and see if he had got some way to find out the black man and to test on him to see whether
he could save the girl. When the doctor heard that, he was very shocked by that but he had also promised not to mention the name of the girl, her husband and hers to the public so as to protect the girl. After the doctor had tried to spread this within the country, the doctor received a lot of phone calls each day and none of them was the black man but they all would like to undertake the test to see if they can help the girl. However, still none of their bone marrow matched the girl's even though they had helped a lot of the patients who were also having blood cancer. Ann felt very stressed but she did not give up and she tried to search for the black man in another way by trying the police because she thought that the black man might be caught for some other crimes. She asked the police to find out all those black people in the jail but once again she failed.
During this period of time, this had become the most controversial topic around the country because people were all thinking about whether the black man would come out to admit his mistake and try to save the girl or will he just being selfish and remain silent, letting the girl die. They were confused whether to call him a criminal because of the mistake that he had done or a hero because he was brave enough to admit his mistake and save the girl.
Dan, who was a black man and a boss of a restaurant, heard this news as well. He was quite annoyed by this news because he thought he was the main character being described in the news. No one would know that this wealthy boss of a restaurant had once been a poor boy working in a restaurant washing dishes. On that night, he had broken a dish and he thought he was humiliated by his boss who had racism on black people as he was forced to eat the broken dish. He was very angry after that and all what he was thinking was to take revenge on the white people. When he was walking on the street, he could barely seen anyone except a white lady. Then, he raped her and he regreted that a lot and he had wish the lady all the best. He was really frightened and he left the city early morning the next day.
When he arrived at the new city, he had found a job in a restaurant and the boss liked him very much because he was hardworking and he allowed him to marry his daughter and to manage the restaurant for him.
When Dan knew this news, he was really annoyed because he would like to save the girl but saving the girl would mean he would loose all his fame as a good man, husband and father. He asked his wife what she felt about that black man mentioned in the news and she replied that she would not forgive that black man. This made him even more difficult to make the decision.
Yet, the next day, he had decided to contact the doctor and he told his wife about what he had done. His wife was too angry and called him a liar. Then, she left with their children to her parents' house. When her parents heard about this, they understood this could have taken Dan a lot of courage to have admitted his mistake and they persuaded their daughters to forgive him and she forgave him and moved back to her own house.
The doctor helped to arrange a time for Dan, Ann and her husband to meet. When they met one another, Dan apologised for what he had done on Ann and Ann and her husband thanked him for his help to save the girl as his bone marrow perfectly matched the girl's bone marrow.
People around the country all praised the man for his braveness to have admitted his mistake and the doctor had received a lot of phone calls from the public asking him to tell Dan that they admired his braveness for admitting his own mistake very much and therefore, he should be called a hero.
For the next meetin, Dan did not appear and he had left his contact and a message to the doctor asking him to tell Ann that he thought that he should not disturb Ann and her family anymore as he had already caused great trouble to her and her family but he would offer as much help as possible if they needed him in the future.'
Sorry for this long story, but I think it is quite a meaningful one because from it we know that we should admit for what we have done wrongly and people will all appreciate it if someone would like to admit his mistakes and correct it and I think those countries who denied having invaded the other countries during the second world war should really learn from Dan as people will just hate them even more if they deny their mistakes because this is not respecting the victims in the world war and therefore these countries will not get the respect from the other countries as well. Also, Ann has shown the love of a mother to a child even though the child was given to her under an unhappy experience and the acceptance of the girl by his husband should be praised as well as it is very difficult for a man to have done that.

I think it's very important to admit to your errors. If you aren't able, then you aren't able to learn from mistakes (since you never think you're wrong!!). But it also shows a high degree of maturity to be able to take responsibility for ones actions. I have a nephew and niece that currently don't have this toolset... it's sad because it's split the family in half.
