Let's talk about Playstation 3 web browser

Plastation 3 is a great console for gaming. I love to use it to surf internet watch youtube videos. But the browser is not perfect because it is not compatible with all sites.
Sony made a partneship to be compatible only with Youtube and there is a version of it compatible with TV screen it is Youtube XL (www.youtube.com/xl). It is nice because the visualization if perfect for big TV (I have a 50" plasma tv) but sometimes it crash.
Beside youtube other video sites don't work for example if you open another video sites like Dailymotion or BBC iplayer videos don't load.
The main problem is that Adobe Flash Player is version is very old and Sony doesn't give the opportunity to update to last version.
Another problem is that when often during surfing Playstation freeze and you have to reset. It's very annoying and I hope it doesn't damage my console.
It's is a pity because Playstation 3 is a great machine and it is a great multimedia box and I think it strange that a next generation console has a prehistoric version of Flash.
I read on a playstation site that they are working on a stand-alone Youtube app for Playstation 3 that will be more compatible. I can't wait for it!

Also, I haven't heard anything of this apparently upcoming Youtube application, or such. It sounds like it could definitely turn out really well, and I would really enjoy using it, a lot.

Wow i was thinking to buy either a ps3 or an xbox 360 soon. And i couldnt choose which one to buy. I love the fact that the ps3 has the browser though while xbox 360 doesn't. I love xbox 360 controller with a passion. But then Right now I spend my money to buy both so now I am left with buying the one. The smartest thing I see to do now though is buy that ps3 because of it features. You see right now my computer is down and right now I really want to watch some videos on the internet especially naruto.
Could you try to watch a video on narutoget.com for me please and tell me if it is working? Because I really like to stay in tune to naruto and those and youtube videos are the majority videos that I watch online. Thanks alot.

I think ps3 is a great choice! It can run everything. I'm watching a lot of movies from it. The site you asked me to check it works! I'm not naruto fan but there are a some cool site compatibile with playstation. for example check stagevu site, it's great and some videos has better quality then youtube. I'll send this response through PM too. Thanks for responding.

I agree that the browser needs an overhaul. It doesn't work with any site that uses new adobe players and that is ridiculous. At least they have a browser unlike the dinosaur 360.
I hadn't heard of a new app or fix, but that will be sweet!

I do agree, but I am not sure what you expect me to say. Like, I love the browser, and it comes in handy. I think it is perfect for using it casually, such as you're playing games. then, you want to look something up real quick or such. I don't think you should expect much more from a Playstation. I mean, they are great machines, and a great company, but It is, after all, really, a gaming console. It is not meant to be your home pc. So, don't focus on the browser, but the great use it can be as a home media tool, and great entertainment for nights and nights to follow. I hope you enjoy using your ps3, to it's full advantage.

Yes it's great when I'm on my sofa and I can watch youtube videos or make a fast search without turn on my pc.
Playstation has a lot of power and somebody installed linux operating system on it and you can use it like as a computer machine in that way. Linux was possibile to install with first model of Ps3 then Sony made a patch to avoid to install operating system. Now it's possible to install linux with a jailbreak but it is not very legal and you can risk the ban from sony server.
Well anyway I enjoying my console as home media player and as a videogame station.

It works great on Netflix . thats all i have ever tried other the facebook.
