Do you always complain that you have nothing to wear, but your closet is jam-packed full of clothes for every occasion? does you family calls you Imeldefic because you have overabundance of shoes. Or worse yet, do you buy items and then forget about them, only to find them under your bed or inside your closet with the price tags still on it? If you answered yes, you may just be a shopaholic. Deciding whether you are a shopaholic depends on your definition of the word. The term shopaholic used to mean someone who liked to shop, maybe a little too much. Now being a shopaholic may mean that you are a compulsive shopper who spends beyond your limits, buy things you have no use for, and uses shopping as a way to feel better temporarily. Based on studies a compulsive shopper or a shopaholic is actually suffering from an addiction, research shows addictive behavior often provides a momentarily lift in mood. A flood of good feeling producing hormones rewards a shopaholic. Unfortunately the lift is not permanent, and the shopaholic must go out and shop more in order to find the next boost in hormones. I used to be a shopaholic, and now I'm proud to say that I have cured my addiction for shopping. I can now say that when I'm at the mall and see things I want to buy, I just take a look at it and ask myself do I really need this, do I really like it, is it worth the money, don't I have something similar to this and I all my answers are yes then I'll know that it's not worth buying the thing. So I just leave it and get out of of the shop.
How about you?? do you consider yourself a shapaholic too??used to? or still suffering from that addiction? what did you do to conquer that addiction??

I must admit I am. Only for jewelry and lingerie though. And usually I shop online to save time and money!

Shopping for jewelry is a good investment, it can be preserve over the long term, generally for several decades. It's also a way to pass wealth down through the generations in a form that has not a monetary value but also artistic and sentimental value.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts aliki166..;)

I have to admit that I like to shop but I can say no to shopping as well. I guess I do like the feeling of getting something I want, whether I really need it or not. I also like to buy for other people as it makes me feel better about myself.
I am really glad that you were able to get over this addiction and glad you can now go to the mall and ask yourself if you really want it or not.

Shopping is just something that I have to do from time to time. I know what I have to do, I know when I have to do it, but I really do get in and get out really quickly. It is really nothing that I either hate or really have any great joy from. This is just one of those things where I am really just do. Somethings grudgingly, considering I am quite reluctant to spend more money than I have to.
Still I am not addicted to shopping. I know many people that are however and it is quite amusing. Needless to say they are not the point where you have to pretty much force them to learn how to budget, but at the same time, you might have to tug on the chain, to keep them in line, when they get one of those urges. Then again we all have addictions to an extent. Shopping is one for many and I can see why, even if I am just indifferent.

I'm glad I haven't gone through this stage..or maybe not yet.. lol (knock on wood) But I've been very concerned with my expenses. There are times that I have bought unneccesary things but this were not that expensive. I always think so many times before buying something.

Thank God know, and I learned my lesson, I remember how I was working but my parents took most of the money and gave me only a small allowance, in the begining of the month I spend a lot of money buying a rare collection of cds and then I find out in the worst way how it is like to not have money for the whole month...I don't know, it doesn't seem traumatic but I learned my lesson and promise I would never buy something I don't need. After that I only bought few times like 3 or something of clothes that didn't had discount, just because I knew it was rare and I would never find it again that fits so fine, but most of the times I don't feel like buying, and when I do I go back home, wait a week, in a week if I still think about this product means I really need it!

Yes I am probably a shopaholic as well. When I go shopping I spend all my spare money. And while it is spare money, it's not necessary to spend it all at once.

No, but I enjoy shopping. Sometimes I do buy things I don't really need, but usually I can keep this tendency in check. If I were to make more money though, I'd probably be in danger of becoming one. Now, I put too much value on the money I make to spend it carelessly.
