it irritates my tongue. There are times though, that even if I have eaten one whole “Formosa “ pineapple it doesn’t irritate my tongue. But those canned ones doesn't also. So I am wondering what is it with pineapple that it sometimes sores the tongue?

I have the same problem! I wasn't always like this. It started happening about three years ago. I love pineapple but sometimes it feels like my tongue is cut afterwards. I actually are some canned pineapple today but it didn't irritate my tongue maybe it was because I didn't eat a lot. It happens more with fresh pineapple. It's terrible because I love pineapple and don't want to give up eating it.

I found the answer http://www.blurtit.com/q204206.html It's the acid in the pineapple that breaks down meat like a meat tenderizer.

I guess because the canned pineapple is more processed it doesn't have as much acid as a fresh one. That's my guess as to why canned pineapple doesn't do it as much but actually last week I ate canned pineapple and it still made my tongue hurt but it was a pretty big can.

Canned pineapples does not cut the tongue. That i noticed. I guess, it's a matter of really taking away those spines or "eyes" totally. But that , wouldn't prevent me from eating pineapple.

Fresh Pineapple - Tropical Fruits
When you peel fresh pineapple make sure you apply and rub salt all over the whole fruit then wash it thoroughly before slicing. This will help your problem. I used to have the same problem but when I did that method I don't suffer any irritation at all. Try it.

Yes, after removing the skin and the yes you should not cut the pineapple yet unless you have rubbed salt all over it. The wash and cut and if you want to add salt then do. I myself can't enjoy pineapple without sprinkling salt in it.

So after rubbing salt all over, i have to wash it again? In my case, if that is so, i would again rub it with salt because i like it a bit salty. Do you know that i would buy one, have it sliced into small pieces, put some salt and eat it at the jeep while i ride home. By the time i get to my destination it is gone! I think, those in front of me are salivating watching me eat.

The blend of the saltiness and the sweetness is so nice to the taste buds.

Hi. SIMPLYYD. I think it may have to do with the high concentration of the acid content. That is my reason. It is just like when you eat an lemon, it is very sour because of the acidity taste. I think that if I would eat a lot of pineapple it would sore my tongue too.

Yes, dreamy1 gave me the link and it really says it's the acid. It could even tenderize a meat if soaked on its juice for a long time. Even then, i still love eating pineapple. This dinner, i will eat it again for dessert! yummy! Don't you like it too?

Do you know that for the past weeks i have been craving for pineapple. I buy a big "formosa" type everyday and would eat half of it! It sores my tongue, but it never lessen my cravings for it. I prefer the fresh ones from the canned, because they don't have preservatives. The fact that it is a very nutritious fruit coupled with it being so affordable , makes me always want to eat it.

I think its the little holes that the spines come out of that give it an irratating taste. But thats its only problem. It's amazing how pineapple goes with almost anything

I guess so too. So they have to be totally taken out from the pineapple before slicing them to be eaten. Yes, pineapple makes some recipes really delicious! Specially the "pork hamonada" with slices of pineapple. I like that viand so much and would get the slices of pineapples at once.
