Next week, Iceland will host the IFSA World Championship, IFSA Strongman, the Strongest man in the world competitions. It will be aired in 219 countries in 15 languages and over 350 million viewers can see it.
For a small nation like Iceland this is a very big deal. The population of Iceland is only 300.000 so we don't get opportunities like this every day.
Many Iceanders have won this competition over the years and hopefully we will again this year. The most famous Icelander who ever won this title was Jon Pall Sigmarsson who died tragically at age 32 while performing a deadlift in the gym. That was a bit ironic as one of is favourite quotes was "There's no point in being live if you can't do a deadlift". He had a serious heart condition but he had a very strong will to live and was crowned as the worlds strongest man numerious times. He was a hero and great inspiration to so many people.
Competitors come from Iceland, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, USA, Poland, Serbia, Finland, Canada, Holland, Great Britain, South Africa, Sweden,Latvia and Austria.
Will you be watching this competition? Have you ever heard of it before or seen it?
