Hi daisy! I think that this must be some kind of ritual that
alot of us do! I was just responding to another friend's
discussion about how she started her Spring cleaning and I
said I am also hoping to start today! I guess there is just
something about Spring that makes people want to clean out
things and throw out stuff. I have been trying to straighten
out my livingroom now for 3 years since my bf moved in! I really
want to get it finished and save up for new carpet or to get
the floors redone. I don't know if that will ever happen, but
I am determined to at least finish the cleaning up part and
the throwing out stuff!

So far, all I've cleaned out has been my seed collection. I've been very busy planting seeds that need to be started indoors before planting outside and tending to the seeds that have already sprouted. I get so excited every time I see a new little baby plant poking it's head out of the soil! My tomatoes, eggplants and peppers are just now starting to sprout. I already have a bunch of lettuce, kale, cauliflower, broccoli and spinach growing under growlights. They'll be going outside very soon.
That has kept me very busy, too busy to think about any spring cleaning, although I do have some that I want to do.
Still, just getting rid of all my excess flower and vegetable seeds made quite a dent in the space I have! One of my friends came over from Baltimore on Saturday and I gave her the seeds I don't want/need and told her to pass on the ones she can't use.
Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I did a lot of "spring cleaning" last fall. Since the gardening season was drawing to an end, I had time to go through my closets and get rid of clothes I hadn't worn in awhile or things that don't fit (hoping one day to fit into them again... wishful thinking! lol). I also got rid of some dog toys, things my girls stopped playing with as new toys came in. Hopefully, someone else's dog will enjoy them.

I do a bit at a time. I have not started my spring cleaning yet. Still a lot of snow on the ground and hard to throw things out. I have to take the things from the basement and put them upstairs because we might have a flood. But some of those things are keepers. I do plan to insulate the basement if I get a good tax return refund. Or use my airmiles.

And I chipped my knee, so now I cannot go downstairs. So I am trying to clean upstairs, just limping around vacuuming and cleaning things up.

Me too and I hate those long and hot summer days especially when it hits the triple digit temps!! Not looking forward to that here at all but I know it will be here soon and then gone again and before we know it it will be Christmas again!

Yeah, it is spring time! A breath of fresh air, a change in
our home for better. Since I am a Malaysian-Chinese, I did my
spring cleaning at the end of January to welcome the spring
which is Chinese New Year (3 & 4th of February 2011). We will
clear all the things that was accumulated and hardly in use.
Give some away and redecorate the interior. Once in awhile,
spring cleaning is a healthy practice

I have started my spring sorting, deciding what to give away, throw away, or keep. I have all the winter sweaters and jackets put away, I live in Florida. It was up to 80 degrees today. My family room floor has heaps of different colors of cloth that I am sorting through, but because of limited time I have to take my time and do a little bit at a time. Thank goodness I don't have anyone complaining about the mess. I look at it like this, eventually I will have less stuff just lying around unused.

Good Morning, CD. If you include your gardens in Spring Cleaning..yes, I am elbow deep in spring cleaning. I find that my gardens are on the have to do, side of the list...and house, "when can do!" I rely very heavily on my gardens as a food source, for eating whilst fresh, and preserving one way or another for winter fodder...so it takes priority! I spent most of the winter purging a lot of nefarious, might use someday kinda stuff, so will get on to the actual cleaning part during those incessant days of Spring Showers! Take care and Cheers!

I clean up all the time, and it doesn't matter what season it is either.
I just keep removing my junk around from one place to another...only trouble is, I can never find the thing I'm looking for, because I can't remember where and/or what pile I've moved it to.
:-D

I constantly have a bag open and ready for charity. When I find something that |I feel I don't need any more, I toss it in the bag....when it's full I drop it off.
As far as actually cleaning....no, not really. We are building a garage and cannot use the kitchen door....etc and etc....so right now everything seems to be upside down. I tell myself I will clean later....that's my story and I'M sticking to it. LOL

Yes, I have started by going through all of our paperwork, throwing out what we don't need, and finding the stuff I need for my taxes! Then I will start on the "house" stuff. However, it is hard to stay motivated by the coming of "Spring" when we are getting snow again this week!

I am sorry! my friend,I cann't catch the drift of what you said. Why do I have to throw out our couch and chair for doing spring cleaning? Here in China ,we buy furniture not to say once for all but do use them for many years unless they have been damaged.I think you know better than to throw out undamaged furniture .However, I feel unsure of it because of differences of culture and consumer attitudes.

I didn't mean about throwing out the couch or chair I was just saying if you are not using it than it should go out or give to somebody that can get some use out of it.
