I live in a place called Kochi in South India. It is very much congested and rush is most during the peak time that is between the morning and evening. Here roads are still about 50 years old, but the increase in vehicles came suddenly the roads become too much rush and most often there would be blocks. Now the town mayor is doing some planning. But unfortunately lots of shops and building have to be demolished from the road sides. It is also difficult to build new fly over. Moreover another major aspect is the increase of population here. Lots of other places people come to stay here. Hope if there is any more development the authorities would do it with proper planning.

I don't know that we are well planned but we are not congested. A population boom can really make things crazy. We had a boom a several years ago..I think it was referred to as the "baby boom" The bigger cities seemed to be more affected by it, but it has evened out a bit now. I hope that your town mayor can help. It's tough when things are crowded.

I am living in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. My city is planned on the papers first. But the problem of increasing vehicles are same in all the cities wheather it is old or new, This problem will be pursists in the coming years. The only solution to this problem is to encourge public transport system.

My hometown, where I've lived for the past 29 years, is very well laid out, and the traffic moves along quite smoothly. The transit system is good, and the roads are very well planned. There are a few traffic jams, but usually only if the snowplows don't get out in time, or if there is an accident.

Hello Sham,
In the capital city you can see both types of places. In some place, you may wonder, is it the capital of our country? But major percentage is good, green and clean. People are there to clean each lane and roads on each and everyday.
The dirt in Kochi is famous like the place. It is just because of the disposal of garbage, they should keep a proper garbage disposal that is the only way to clean the city.

I lived here in one of the major cities here in our country.
The place is not also a very well planned, but government are trying to do things to make everything in order, like fly over, over pass (foot bridge) to avoid traffic and also proper loading and unloading areas.
I can say that,it's doing well, thu we can not avoid traffic during rush hour.
Everything is well taken care ...police and traffic enforcer deployed everywhere too for peace and order.

It's been years since I've come to Cochin (unless you count the few hours I was there a few months back on our way from Guruvayoor to Trivandrum). It has changed a lot and I can see the development.
I live in Bangalore and here also development is happening at a fast pace. But we stay on the outskirts. It is getting crowded this side of town too though it wasn't as crowded when we moved here 7 years ago. Guess that's the price we pay for development.

I am lucky to have a very well planed country.
I never describe my place as a congested place. But I do describe it as a prosperous place.
Traffic congestion can be found everyday at my place, the capital of the country.
However, it is still under a controllable situation.
I hope the government of your place will place the town planning in the priority consideration.
Then only the traffic and the living standard can be improved.

Right from the moment Adelaide was planned, the streets were designed to be extra, extra wide to prevent the crowding so common in the other previously established capital cities. A great deal of thought & forward thinking went into city planning down here. The main street used to be four lanes wide, plus a bus lane plus parking in both directions with a wide nature strip in the middle. Recently they built tram lines into the far right lane & now we have a tram system again. Even during peak hour there is very little congestion in the city. It is well known as "the twenty minute city" because you can get from any part of the city to any other part inside twenty minutes at any time of day or night. The population increase here has been very gradual over the centuries. Maybe over-priced housing, lack of good jobs, isolation & lack of investment are contributing factors, but nobody is complaining!
Sorry for your congestion.
