What's the best anti virus program out there?

My old laptop had a paid version of Avast on it, but I was advised to go with NOD for my anti virus program. I downloaded a free trial for ESET smart security 4 just a little while ago, but regret that I did. In the process of downloading it, my internet connection went offline twice. As I ran a scan, my system froze up completely. My mouse controls wouldn't work, ctrl, alt, delete wouldn't work either. I had to manually shut down my system, and then it's been laggy since then. So my question is what is the best anti virus out there for free that I can use until I can get a paid program installed? I need something right now considering the fact that some people are saying that myLot is infected with malware somehow.

Well Nod32 is a good anti virus but for paid one. It is handy in the computer and also good performance. If you're looking for free then AVG or avira. These two works fine with me.

I think Norton is the best, but a little bit expensive though and it consume a lot on your hard drive if you have a good specs of computer used norton but if you think your computer can't handle norton better not to do it.... AVG is also good i agree with the first 2 comments and you can download a free trial version on the net.....

These days I feel Kaspersky is doing a lot better considering the service and the cost for which the sevice is offered for.

If you want to try some freebies then one should definitely try Avast home edition. The service and protection offered in a free anti-virus is really great.

AVG anti-virus - This is what I use.
AVG is a free download online and I have never had any trouble with it. My computer guy uses it...and if it's good enough for him, then it's good enough for me.

All of the previous comments are essentially correct . I have used most of them alone and in pairs. I now am using Microsoft Security Essentials, and Super Anti-spyware with no problems. If your computer is still 'laggy', I would do a virus scan online from 2 or 3 sites HouseCall, BitDefender, Kaspersky to find a solution to cure that problem.. If that fixes the prob., then you can experiment with any of the free programs to find one with which you are comfortable.

My husband got me a copy of Trend Micro, and it's saved several computers of mine. Love it!

Right now I am using antivir free and it found infections that the ones I used before didn't find. I had tried that one once before on a previous laptop because a guy in Thailand had recommended it to me while I was staying in his guesthouse. I have always just used the free trials when they were available, but I can renew the free version of this one again in September.

If you want a free security suite then I would like to recommend Comodo Internet Security Premium. It is so far the best free Internet Security suite at being proactive. Peruse the page at the end of the link below and draw your own conclusion(s). http://www.matousec.com/matousec/blog.php?blog=147-Proactive_Security_Challenge_vs._real_malware_ http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php One of the things I like about CIS is that it gives the user a greater control over its settings. On the other hand you may not like it because it is heavy compared to other Internet security suites like AVG and Avast when doing a thorough scan.

AVG for me. It's easy to update, doesn't slow my pc performance. I bought my laptop with my pre-installed AVG already then I got the paid version. It really works great for me, it automatically detects virus and after I set this anti-virus to automatically scan any flash drives that will be inserted in my laptop, it will scan immediately without delay.

For me it's comodo, if you go to their page you will find tons of FREE services and there are so many that I don't even know what exactly all of them do, compearing to other names I find comodo the best. It's not that famous like people talk about agv or norton, but for who've been hacked believe me it's very popular. You have TOGETHER the antivirus and the firewall! You have assistance and also they fight malware, spyware. I mean it's amazing. There was this time I tested avg, then unistall and tested avast! and unistal. Can you believe the 3th time only comodo caught the viruses??? i mean it was there the whole time and only comodo did it's job.
