Can you just tell?

Is there a way that you can just tell that when you log onto a website, that it just swarming with viruses? Like, If I was just going on google and I searched something and then the website has an ad from that same website saying that I just won something? Should I believe that? What Should I do? I mean sometimes I will click on them but not go all the way, sometimes I have actually went all the way with an ad. But my point with this one is, How should I react when I see adds like that?

Update your browsers as they usually patch up any loopholes. As to prizes, LOL...it could not be everyone is that lucky...unless you feel that the risk of virus is less than the prize money...As for me, I'll just let it go.
