At long last, my son has got a date that is after Easter, to go to the new school. This school is to help him catch up on all the school work that he is behind on, as well as they are more experienced in ADHD to deal with all of his needs.Thankfully they provide transport to and from there as well.

U are so lucky huh! After a fun break and good news followed soon after.. haha =D Hopefully your son really fit in well in the new school, and maybe with kids of the same level of activeness, he might be tamed by them? haha No matter what, it's gonna be much better than the old school because transport is provided as well! IS it free too?? haha

That sounds like just what your son needs. I can only wish that there was a program like that around here for children that are really struggling with school because of the combination in ADHD and other learning disabilities as well. It wouldn't benefit our family directly, but the little boy up the street from us would really benefit from something like this as well. I feel so terrible for him because he isn't able to get anything out of school.

hiya jugs. i wonder how you learn about your son's ADHD. have you consulted a specialist or at what age he was evaluated for ADHD? i have been reading a lot about ADHD as i, personally, suspects our youngest son Zayzay has. but i checked with one clinic here and learned from the secretary that consultation alone is expensive.

Really? That's wonderful. At least he has got teachers who are more experienced to take good care of him. On top of that, transport is provided as well, saving u the hassle of needing to bring him to and fro from school. That's a good gesture from the new school. Your son should settle well in the new school based on the things they have done your u and your son.

That is really good news and it is about time as well.I hope that they can really help him.I have a friend who has a son with adhd and i do know how hard it is and i do know that it can really be very tiring on the parents that have children with this.I am pleased that you and your son have not much longer to wait and it is great that they are giving your son transport to and from the school.

That's great news! At least they are finally doing something for your son after so long. I know so many children with ADHD who will go for years without anything and the parents wonder why their children have such a difficult time in school.

The whole education system has had loads of cut backs and that has made it so there are less trained people in the referral units to cope with children like my son.It has been a battle with his adhd, but now i feel like we are getting him all the help that he needs.

That is wonderful news Jugs, once my nephew was sent to a school that specialised in his needs he started excelling in areas he was good at because he had the correct understanding and encouragement, whereas his original school, just saw him as a problem. He is a fantastic drummer and loves all sports now too. Wishing you son good luck in his new school. huggles. Ellie :D

I am sure that he will like the new school, after a while, as to begin with he will have a problem to settle, as he hates any changes. If after 3 terms things are looking good then it will be up to my son what he wants to do.I know these people are trained to deal with my son. also they know how he feels having adhd, which also helps.

That is great! I know how hard it is to deal with ADHD when you are in school. Unfortunately, in my case, I didn't find out that was what my problem was until I was 36 and almost flunking out of college. Once they got me note takers and extra time on tests, I was able to pass the last four HARD classes that I needed to graduate. If I had known when I was in school about these kinds of problems, I could have been a retired nurse by now instead of being on disability with no real job skills. I hope he does well in this new setting. Don't ever give up hope. Some people deal with this all their lives and don't even know what the problem is so he is really lucky! Have a great week!

What grade level is he right now? I'm just curious, what is a referral unit? Is it part of the school he attends or is it a school in itself?

He has slipped so far behind with his school work now as he finds it really hard to concerntrate, that it has made him frustrated all the time that he is in school.Thankfully my son has a great consultant, also a great adhd specialist nurse, so they know how to deal with problems that arise in school.Lets hope that they can help him in the referral unit so that he can stay in a main stream school.

Finally!! That is wonderful, because they will give him the extra he needs to catch up, because I am sure the little one has been a bit overwhelmed. Hooray for the referral unit for finally catching up with paperwork. LOL
Because in reality those types of delays are due to them not completing the paperwork causing such as your son to be further delayed.

We have waited it seems like ages for the referral unit to do all the paper work, i have to keep telling myself that it will be worth it in the end.We are in hope that he will catch up, as well as learn how to deal with his adhd, but time will tell. How things are at the moment he will not be able to go to main stream middle school, so lets hope that they can help him so that he can continue in main stream.

You are very lucky to have such school at your place.
I believe after attending the classes at that particular school, your son will be very much better in his study.
From my understanding, some children have good potential in doing their study well.
But they didn't do their study well because they were neglected their study.
If they are really concentrate in their study with some guidance, I am sure they still can catch up and score well in their examinations.
Wish him all the best.
