Do You Find Yard Work Therapeutic?

I love working in the yard, being outdoors, in the sun...taking care of the grass, bushes, plants and the garden. There is nothing like the taste of a homegrown tomato! Do you find yard work fun, or a chore?

Yard work is a pleasure to me too. I find myself refreshed and renewed when I did yard work. The peaceful task of dealing with nature has a wonderful effect on me as well. There is nothing like the smell of a garden fresh tomato or the juiciness of fresh picked berries, the smell of your homegrown peppermint tea or the pleasure of a bouquet of flowers out of your own garden. - There is pride in what you accomplished, joy to see things grow and the expectation of what will grow out of the seeds you put into the soil. There are surprises every spring when plant come up you thought did not survive the winter. Sometimes there are extra big tomatoes or apples or a specially big pumpkin growing in some unlikely spot. Even in Winter you think of your garden when you eat your homemade jam, eat the carrots you grew in the summer, cure a cold with those herbs you had in your garden. There is really nothing like your own garden. Actually garden work is known as therapeutic. I had an acquaintance once who suffered from depression. When he found work as a gardener he recovered from his depression.-

Hi lakshmi11... I love to create...there's not much more of a greater sense of accomplishment..except raising your children...than seeing your work. I love landscape design, and I watch as many shows on cable as I can. Working in your yard and garden...it takes your mind off of reality...puts you in touch with yourself, and nature. I think I'll try creating a rock garden sometime also. I love Asian, Southwest and Mexican landscapes...very exotic.

Oh gosh the thing I miss so much is my home, which I no longer own. Because of the beautiful garden and yard that I had. I use to break my back each and every day. Even after long days at work, I would mow and rack leaves. I had about 38 roses bushes and a small area where I had tomatoes, pepper, broccoli and cauliflower. Most evenings I spent working in my yard so not really enjoying how beautiful it was. I had a garage behind my yard, so each day I came home and saw my lovely yard and garden it was all the stress and frustration of the day at work, instantly lifted. I would sit in my patio even if it was for a few minutes. The site of the oh so clean yard and garden felt like therapy to me.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't have your garden anymore. In some ways, I think we feel better being outdoors than in. I'm going to get a screened tent for the backyard so I can enjoy it even more and have to deal with bees and mosquitoes...and those always annoying flies! I hope you can one day enjoy your garden again!

It depends what kind of yard work I'm doing it, if I'm doing the work to take care of my plants is fun, but if I have to rake, it is not fun.

I hadn't thought of the raking of leaves...no, that is not fun! Unless you have little kids that can help you!
