A family with someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol has to deal with many things like anger, resentment, and also the love they still have for the one who is an addict.
They usually still hope that all will be well and hide the signs of addiction, instead of letting the addict taking responsibility for their actions.

It is a very hard and difficult thing to deal with a friend or family member who is struggling with an addiction. To me it at times seems overwhelming frustrated. It's always important to remember that you can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. That was a very big eye opener for me and has helped me to be able to cope and deal with my own life. You want them to live a normal life and get over their addiction but things don't always work out that way unless they themselves sincerely try. I would feel at times that I could do it all for them but then that causes problems with my emotions and my life. I noticed that to, that at times they won't even admit that they have a problem sometimes I would wonder if i was the crazy one :). All we can really do is let them know that we are there for them when they admit they have a problem and want to get help then we will be there to help them. We can't let their problem consume the life that we need to live for ourselves. It may be necessary for us to seek friends and family members that we can talk with openly so as to help keep our own sanity.

yes, I agree with you that family members of an addict tend to tolerate the addict because of love. But they should be aware that they cannot just hope and pray for that person to change on his own. Rehabilitation measures should be done and it won't happen if they will not act on it. If they will pity their addicted loved ones to be put in such institution, they will just contribute to worsen the addiction of that individual since they will just watch and see him destroy himself.
