Do you asociate some drinks to special places? I do. I never have a piña colada at home. In fact, I´ll finish posting this and I´ll bring a big glass of water with plenty of ice and some lemon juice. But in Aruba, a piña colada by the pool bar was a must. They had happy hours, 2 drinks for $7 so we split with my friends. For me coconut milk is exotic and yummy, palm trees swaying, the beautiful warm sea so unlike my cold agresive Pacific Ocean. Iguanas walking by, all of us trying to capture one with our cameras. The sun was awesome and caressing but only after that 45 blocker over our skin. The only picture I have downloaded up to now is in my avatar. You know I change my avatar every time I travel
Do you have a drink that reminds you of a place that you have visited in vacations? Share. .

ER! UHM! Marguicha...would you please pass me that "MAI TAI", so yummy, and I will relax right here, with all the fond memories of OAHU, or the BIG Island of Hawaii...the spectacular beaches, the incessantly wonderful weather and so loved the slightly cool Pacific breezes that caressed the evening..or the wafting aromas of the tropical orchids! BUT..yes, I will take a "Pina Colado" too!
I have the stupedest thing to tell you..."memories in a bottle!" To me, Mai Tai's & the wonderul pupu's are the tropics, and often at home, during the heat of summer, conjured up thoughts of a Mai Tai. The last time I was in Honolulu, some 20 years ago...I bought a bottle of Orgeat Syrup ( a necessary ingredient in a MaiTai) and brought it home (not available here!) Made one Mai Tai, from it in 20 years...and that bottle of Orgeat Syrup is still in my fridge, I open often, and smell it (still good) and can't bring myself to throw IT OUT! Silly..but it's like all those memories of the many, many visits to the Hawaiian Islands are enclosed in that bottle!
Welcome home, welcome back, hope all was in order when you got home..and you are totally relaxed.

I have yet to go to Hawaii, friend, but maybe I´ll get there someday. At least I want to go to Easter Island and I might make it this year if all goes well. Easter Island is easier for me as it is a chilean island and there are some very unexpensive trips for seniors in my country in low season.
I know what is to smell a vacation (don´t throw that Orgeat Syrup until you can get a newer one). I have a sort of cyder in my fridge that means Independence Day for me. I will not dare drink it although maybe it´s still good, but I don´t want to throw it away either. No wonder my house is full of junk!
I sort of landed without parachute in reality here. My younger daughter had a car crash the same day I returned(noone was injured but she has to pay damages) and the next day one of my grandsons was hit in the head during recess at school which meant scanners and other exams and a day of hospital. He is ok now and today he´ll go back home. But as I´m relaxed I am able to realise that all has ended the best way considering. My grandson had nothing serious after all besides a bump and material damages are just money. We´ll all pinch in to help.

You place on a blender ice so it crushes, coconut milk, rum, sugar and pineapple. That´s all. You know how I am with recipes. I got it from one of the bartenders. I don´t think I´ll do it here dough: it comes along with the sun, the beaches and the caribbean!

The Bahamas! There´s a song about Bahama mama, I seem to remember. I´d love to live at the Caribbean!!!

Welcome back! I have no special drinks of any kind. The closest thing would be a strawberry daiquiri, but I don't do those very often and it just depends on who is around if I even bother. Do tell about your trip. I look forward to hearing about it. Have a great week!

Wow, sounds like there was more excitement after you got home than when you were gone! I hope everything works out there. Have a good rest of the week!

I have not even finished unpacking yet. So I´ll do it little by little. The coming back to reality has been somewhat trying. My youngest daughter had a car crash the same day I came back (no one was injured but she didn´t have her car insured). And that same day one of my grandsons received a ball on his eye. The next day he was dizzy so he had to be taken to the hospital to be scanned. It all ended well but household chores were left behind.

Not the kind of excitement I like though, Debbie. But everything is ok. Diego is ok at home now, very spoiled after his day at the hospital and Claudia could drive my car although she had said she would not ever drive again.

Hi Marguicha! Love the new avatar, looks like you had a wonderful time! When I visit friends in southern Florida and in the Florida Keys, the popular drinks are rum runners. Rum mixed with various fruit juices, my favorites were the ones that were partially frozen and served like a fruit slush. I even bought a slush maker, thinking to make them at home...but have never used it for that purpose. Mostly I just make fruit slushes, without the rum.
Will you be posting more pictures of your vacation?

I love rhum. In fact it is one of my favorite drinks. With fruits or tonic you can sip your drink for a long time while you are with friends.
Of course I´ll be posting more pictures

There was a little Tiki Bar here on the bay where I would meet a few friends for Bloody Mary's at noon on Sunday. We would sit out on the deck and watch the boats and drink our yummy Bloody Mary's. The Tiki Bar made the best ones because they coated the rim of the glass in a mixture of exotic spices and put plenty of large olives on a pick... It was better than Sunday morning breakfast! It's sad because they tore down the Tiki Bar and the little shops around and built large condos. These Condo's , after over a year, still sit empty. I think of those laid-back Sunday afternoons everytime I cross the bay.

yes a pina colada brings back memories to me also. my first one was when i went with one of my first employers i kept house for and watched their kids. they invited me to Vero beach in Florida. we stayed in the most posh hotel room and went to a restaurant i cant remember the name of now. it looked like you was sitting on a boat looking right out over the water. i had my first pina colada ever, and duck under glass, plus Escargol, believe me that ocean snails was nothing like i thought. so good. never been able to afford it myself but still remember how good it was.

Piña coladas are not as expensive as the rest of that menu you just told about. At Aruba you could get one for about $7 but if you went to the bar at a happy hour you got 2 for that price.

Looks like you had a great time
I love pina colada but I only had it in a bar during my younger days. I am sure I had a great time then but it was no Aruba. Dark, noisy, smokey...It was not a place to relax.
Welcome back!

For me piña colada and Aruba go in the same sentence.. The first time I had it was almost 20 years ago and some friends brought one to me to an outdoor jacuzzi near the pool at a resort in Aruba. It was my first time in Aruba and every time I go there, a piña colada is a must.

Thank you jak. It was very beautiful. Aruba is a small island in the Caribbean near the shores of Venezuela. The weather is wonderful although at this time of the year is much warmer than in September.
