What Do You Do With The Change Received While On Shopping ?

I collect all the change received during my shopping in a container! Before that I keep the change either on the corner of our dining table or centre table immediately after coming from the market, later on this change is transferred to a container. Normally I don't use this change except for some exclusive need where I require to tender some change! But wife uses this change to get petty things like vegetables etc. to be procured locally. I recall having given some change worth Rs.700/- or to a Bakery shop owner as he was need of that or other wise I keep my change like that only as there is hardly any role of change in today's inflated market! How about you! What do you do with the change you receive from the market after your shopping? Please respond! Thanks !

I`m embarrased to say this, but I keep my change in this little red pouch that my cousin from the philippines gave me. I have no idea why I still have it. I should be putting all my change in a container like you, because that pouch gets fat lol. It`s very convenient to save your change. Trust me people.

Hi Dear Jeffreyallen! I think you have got some emotional attachment with the red pouch which has been presented by your cousin from Philippines! Better you transfer your change to some container before your pouch gets too obese and breath its last! LOL! Yes,I too do agree that it is very easy to save change, as we do it quite involuntarily to realise that we have saved quite an handsome amount at the end! Thanks for responding!

Hi Rao, I am regular traveler in bus and I needed the changes everyday. If my hubby keeps the changes on the dining table, I quickly grab that money then put into my bag. If he keeps bigger notes, it will be safe there but on smaller amounts it won’t be safe there.

Hi Dear Sreekala! I can understand that! For the people who need change on regular basis to use them, for them this change acts as a big boon! I can understand the inconvenience caused in the bus when we don't carry exact change! Either we need to leave the change with he conductor or we need to waste our time by going to the conductor while getting down to get the left change which he writes on the back of the ticket which he issues! We used to face this typical problem when we used to be the students! So I am not surprised if you are grabbing the change! Even now at this age I often grab some one rupee coins from friends and relatives if I find any thing interested in them as I am one rupee coin collector! I must really appreciate your generosity and your husband's luck that you are sparing the big notes even when you are getting an opportunity to grab them! LOL! Thanks for responding!

If I get change back I usualy use it to buy something else later. Change is actually a good thing to save because after awhile it will amount to something and you can deposit it back into the bank or use it for vacations etc.

Hi Dear SomeCowgirl! I am happy to know that you are using the change to buy some thing, it is a good thing to do as by doing so we are helping the change to be kept in circulation. Though I try to do so, but I don't feel like carrying change while I am on shopping because I carry my money directly in the pocket without using any wallet, so this would make my pocket really heavy and that would made me very uncomfortable! Yes before we realise, the change collected by us some times turn out in a pretty good amount which can either be transferred to our bank account or it can even be used when we are on shopping or on vacation! Thanks for responding!

I do the same, I usually just put all the changes that I get from shopping to a coin jar. My husband does the same, we use the changes that we accumulate to play poker card games with his Grandmother; I roll them up sometimes, we would go change it to money bills at some point.

Hi Dear Mermaidivy! I am really happy to know that you are using the change thus collected for poker! Indeed its a good idea.to play poker card games with Granny and let her win some change! This must be keeping her happy, No? Yes at some stage when we collect a pretty good change we need to gt them changed to appropriate bills, so that the money will be put back into the circulation! Thanks for responding!

Hi, Sometimes I don't really go and bother on those changes of coins I got from the seller and just put everything in my wallet, until I realized that my wallet is getting heavier each day, then I will dig them out and will use them when I buy something from supermarket. I hate to have so many loose coins, they are heavy and the best is use them to buy newspaper or light snacks.

Hi Dear Shia! Many of us really don't pay any attention to these small coins and just keep them in wallets! In fact I never like to carry any wallet at all I keep the currency like that only in my pocket! Just for the reason that I start collecting all unnecessary things in the wallet to make it more heavier day by day and as you said coins also form a part of it! That is good idea that you are spending them to get something like Newspaper or light snacks. By doing so you are not only getting rid of your change from your wallet , but you are also helping the change to be in circulation, for which it has been manufactured by the Government! Thanks for responding!

My boyfriend never uses coins for anything because he dislikes carrying them in his pants pockets. So each day he empties his pockets and tosses them in my container. Yippee! Every 3 - 4 months I cashed them in and there is about $200 bucks in there so I use to for anything in the household like a bill or something.

Hi Dear Hardworkinggurl! It is same story with me too! I too don't like to carry those coins while going out for shopping but I will have to carry them back to home from the market and I keep that change some where here an there which is collected then by my wife to be transferred into the container! Yes this petty change can get accumulated into some good amount within few months with which we can settle some household bill! thanks for responding!

Hi Dear Cher! It is always better to use your change instead of collecting it some where in a container as you are helping the change to be in circulation. If you have a need to utilize your change then you should use it instead of collecting it! Thanks for responding!

It actually depends on how much the change is. If it's something I could use for transportation, I do have a coin purse. But for those loose changes that only get lost in itself, shopping centers usually have a charity box on top of their counters and I usually just put it in there instead of having it laying around the house or in my purse with no intention of using it really.

Hi Dear Laydee! That is good thing if we can really use this change for some purpose to keep them in cycle for which they are in fact meant for! Using them for bus fare or anything similar is a practical thing to do! I appreciate your idea of giving away the change in the Charity through the Charity Box. This will,as you said, would come handy to the needed instead of lying some where, here and there in the house or simply lying in the purse! Thanks for rsponding!

I have a lil coin purse I keep it in. I use it to either pay some of the bill on something. I will also keep the larger coins like quarters for rummage sale season, as it's always good to have correct change because you don't know if you'll get your change back correctly from someone. I usually save things like pennies for the kids piggy banks when they deserve some payment BUT the oldest has taken to swiping her change to waste at the school bookstore.

Hi Dear SnuggleBunnies! I am pleased to know that you have got a coin purse to save the change and you use the change i settling the bills also! Yes during sale season if we have change that comes very handy to pay the correct amount! Yes saving small coins like pennies for Piggy banks of Kids is a great idea when they deserve some payment! Yes sometimes kids they do such naughty acts and we should simply ignore them after just explaining them that they have done a wrong thing by taking out the change from Piggy bank to waste it! Thanks for responding! PS: You have got a beautiful animated Avatar as depicted on your profile page , but it is not moving here on this page! Please get it rectified so that others can enjoy it!

Hi akrao, Well i do exactly like you do. I have a piggy bank where i put all my change and when it is full i break open it. It is made of clay so i have to break it open. In this way it is good thing because then money just collects in it and last time i broke it open i had over 600 rupees in it which is not a small amount in India. it can easily buy a good meal at KFC or any other eating joint for a family of 4.

I have my coin purse with me always,so i put those change in my coin purse. Maybe you are referring to coins like smaller coins a cents i guess. Well,i have a container for those cents and when i think it's full i collect all cents and buy it to stores that needs those cents (stores needs cents to change customer's bill/money) I don't throw cents,it could be of use when in bulk already.

I keep the change in my bag or anything that I take with me at that moment. And sometimes when I organize my stuff, I find them unexpectedly. It's like you've just discovered some treasure.
