Japanese food: affected by radiation

After the earthquake and tsunami disaster that struck Japan. They are now facing the problem w/ food/crops & water that had been affected by the radiation from the nuclear plant. Some countries are now testing their Japan imported products if those are radiation-free. While the US already ordered an import ban for these products. I really feel for the people of Japan but I think it is safer if every country will issue an import ban for products coming from those radiation infected cities. On the other hand, I am impressed w/ Japan's stand on this as they personally stopped exporting their products for the meantime. And they are still in control of the situation.

Yes, we can learn many things from Japan and how they handled disasters. I admire them for their discipline, their full support to the nation and their code of business ethic. I hope the radiation does not get worse. As I heard it is now not on the red level for the people health.

Their principles are something that other countries should acquire. They are indeed concern about the welfare of other countries too, in fact they can be blamed if the radiation spread, maybe that's why they are taking all precautions too. I wish too that this would not cause massive disease or destruction.

I wish the people of my country can follow their example, so I believe we would be a developed country in no time.

yes if only everyone will follow suit and everyone will do their little parts, there would be a big difference.

We are personally affected by this ban as we import some food products from Japan, so the current stock that we have is all that we are going to have for a long time I feel. Perhaps it will never be safe to import these products again? We also import products from China too which are grown in the sea between China and Japan. How can we trust that these products are also safe? This is a big concern for us business wise at the moment as these are enormously popular products for us. I feel that this is going to hurt Japanese exports for a very long time. Perhaps this is mother natures payback for Japan killing lots of whales?

Yes, I have seen those dolphin videos as well! I had forgotten about that! For such nice polite people, the Japanese can be very cruel! I also heard today that the water is toxic in the ocean. Also that the air in Korea has been tested as toxic too! The whole region will likely suffer. It just goes to show that nuclear power should not be continued!

Hi Rawbill! Yeah, we are importing products in Japan too. The govt ordered stop on the imports for now, till there's a nuke scare. Too bad, I really love Japanese food. When will this stop? True! How can we be so sure that the seas in between countries near Japan are safe? Heard that the water toxic is now flowing to the seas. We are near Japan too and our fisheries may be affected in time, Ive seen their video on killing I think dolphins and it is truly disturbing. Well God has a reason. A reason that only he knows, hope that Japan will wake up and stand up again.

yeah, maybe some but not all Japanese. Those dolphin killers should be put to jail! REally heartless! If only those dolphins can run for their lives. Sigh! The air in some parts of the PH has been tested w/ radiation too but as they say, "it is still manageable". I just hope that they arent keeping anything as to avoid mass panic!

yes, even if we wanted to help by buying their products so to help their economy.. truly it isnt advisable to buy Japanese products nowadays. Better stray away for the mean time.

It just goes to show that no matter how advanced a country is, when mother nature strikes, absolutely nothing can be done to prevent her. My thoughts go to the people in Japan. Of course proper checks must be done to protect public health around the world, I just hope it's not just a knee jerk reaction by some governments as this will certainly not help the people of Japan rebuid.

yes, we are dealing w/ mother nature here. we really cant do something about it. but they can still do something to prevent the spread of nuke radiation. I do hope that they will be able to contain it to avoid further destruction to their country and other countries too.

That is how nations behave when some country is down and out. Packaged food from Japan reaches USA and European nations about a week after it is harvested. Whatever is in stocks would have been packed before the Tsunami. Any way the Japanese being very diligent people will take care to test and ensure safe food products. The world should help them in doing so, and not be arbitrary about it. The country needs to get out of this difficult situation and certainly does not deserve a kick on the shins right now.

Thankfully, the radiation levels are below the safe standards as of now. But considering the half-life of the Nuclear material used in the power plant it may as well be a long haul.

Yeah, other countries should help too. After all we can be affected if we do not cooperate. Yes, the food that was packed before the tsunami is still safe. I feel for Japan, now their tap water is now affected by the radiation, I hope this gets resolved soon

I agree, I believe to prevent people from other countries becoming exposed from the imported food this would be the best option. I was watching the news yesterday, and saw a lot of people wearing masks. I found it odd that the adults had masks the the children did not. I think I would protect my children as much as possible. Best Wishes!

Thanks! I believe that children all over the world should be given attention. I wrote another discussion about children and they are just living in a horrible place. For this one, maybe the parents are all in panic and we do not know why they arent wearing masks. But there should be no excuse to that.

Truly the best and right option to take. Yeah, that's quite peculiar, children are more susceptible to diseases and I bet even radiation. These parents arent thinking about their children's welfare

I feel badly for them. They have wonderful food and products. It will be a long, long time before the radiation goes away. In the meantime, they have food, but lots of it has been exposed to radiation. If they eat it, it will be bad, if they don't they starve. Other countries are sending in food, but if they don't get that plant under control. . .. I really hope they can get that nuclear plant under control and soon.

First thing that needs to be done really is to contain the nuke plant. This way they can do away w/ the radiation scare (or more of it). Yes they do have wonderful and delicious food products! I love Japanese food, when I go out I see to it that I eat Japanese (there are cheap Jap restaurants here), though I do not know if they sell authentic Jap products or they just taste like one. I do hope this gets resolved soon! Cheers!

In my home country Hong Kong, lots of food is imported from Japan and now they are recalling some of the food that have been examined that is affected by the radiation. I think for everybody's safety concern, it's just better not to eat anything that is imported from Japan for the time being. I like sushi and sashimi very much, that means I'm not gonna have any when I go home this summer unfortunately.

Me too! I love Japanese food, from sushis, to noodles, to chocolates! It is very sad that we arent going to have a dose of these for the meantime. But better safe than sorry. I hope everything will be okay soon.

Yeah, I commend Japan for taking the initiative to stopped exporting their products coming from the radiation infected place in their country. Most countries, including ours have made necessary check on products and good coming from Japan on the possibility of radiation. Let's just hope that no one will be infected by it.

I just hope that our country has the right facilities to "really" check whether these products are infected or not. As we are aware that our country is far way behind in terms of technology :(

I feel for the people of Japan too. Hopefully, their food/water won't become so contaminated they can't eat/drink. That would add another burden on the existing burdens. Hopefully, other nations are getting in food/water supplies to help out. All I've done is pray and send money.

There are food/water from some parts of Japan that are already contaminated. Tap water in Tokyo too I think isnt safe for babies to drink anymore. Another nations are helping out in sending relief goods to Japan. Let's pray that this be over soon.

It surely is a concern right now and a concern that is going to halt their productions. But I am sure they will be taking all necessary steps to assure they do not further implicate matters, I hope so...

I love Fuji apples,Japanese corn and Just add water Ramen, But for now I wont buy them until everything is safe, I really love instant ramen from japan so its going to be hard. At least for now its less sodium for me.I felt bad for the Japanese people at this moment because they were not secure to the food they eat and the water they drink because of the catastrophe. What have they done to deserve this.

Well that is one scare we have to face and Japan has to make up for this one. I guess this will cripple Japan's economy for one since they will definitely lost many sales on products that might be affected with radiation. So far we have to be cautious for now that the crisis is not yet subdued.

True, we have to be more careful in buying products from Japan, though not all are affected. We can stray away for the meantime, just to be on the safe side. I really feel for Japan and I am sad about this after all I am a fan of Japanese food products, like chocolates and noodles :(

Hiya staria, They have reported that a lot here on the News and yesterday just yesterday they were saying that most of the Food is practically safe except for the Milk they have there. I donĀ“t think that all of that can be true as one Day they were saying the green stuff was unsafe and now the next Day they seem to have changed their minds altogether. I admire the Japanese People themselves yes they are taking it very well considering the circumstances. The News you get here is very conflicting sometimes. Their Production of other things has also been affected a lot as well.

Hi Lovingangelsinstead! Yeah, the news can sometimes be confusing. So I think it would be best to avoid all of their food/dairy products altogether just to be on the safe side. There's nothing wrong in considering the precautions that you can carry out to avoid this radiation scare.

The Japanese are really very impressive when it comes to discipline. Yes, it would really be bad on their economy to stop exporting their products, but, they still have held it abay while they're figuring out if their products are safe. I remember, too, that if you would see news footages after the disasters, you would see them patiently forming lines and not taking advantage of the situation.

Yeah, I am impressed by their attitude. They can still stay composed/calm after all the disaster. If that happens in PH I am sure all stores are already ravaged by the bad guys. When typhoon Ondoy happened, lots of cases of thieves were recorded. Japanese people are disciplined and they can still care about their fellowmen and the rest of the world, truly unbelievable and truly amazing!

Yes, food from japan are affected by radiation. This is the very last thing they hope to avoid because once that happens, it means there won't be food to go around, resulting in shortage. By then, even if there are millions or billions of donation going to them, it's not going to help at all. NOw, what other countries should do now is keep sending them food and drinks. If radiation doesn't kills them, hunger does.

You are right, if they are to escape the radiation they can die from hunger. I think donations are coming in bulks. And the govt is still under control, w/c is good.

Yes it comes to show how the Japanese care for the quality of everything they produce and send out to other countries, yes they make mistakes sometimes but they are quick to admit and recall and correct the situation, very amazing, no wonder profit comes easy for them because of the love they put to their work

You are right! They care about the quality too, not only their profits! They are quick to admit that they are at fault. I salute the Japanese who takes care of the plant, he went to the evacuation centers and personally said sorry to the people who were affected by the radiation.

Oh, poor japanese people. They can't even drink water because of the tsunami and now even the food they will eat was affected by the radiation! How can they live without food and drink? BUT I KNOW, GOD WILL NEVER ABANDON US. Do not worry because God will provide. HE WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU.

Their tap water is already affected too, as far as I know babies cannot drink this water anymore as the radiation level can already be harmful for them. Yes, God is always there.
