So, yesterday a friend of mine and I both drove to Shelby, North Carolina for an errand trip. It was 4 hours from Atlanta to that area, and we have to deliver some samples and documents. While we enter South Carolina and North Carolina, in between, I guess, it is rural areas mostly. Cotton field, and farms. It seems that not much entertainment around that area, and not many shopping malls or so. For my first impression, it was a quiet place to live, and not much activity or traffic going on there. But don't you think it was too quiet, and I just can't live like that. What do you think? Would you be able to live within a rural area, or a countryside?

It sounds like you didnt go thru the city. There are lots of country areas in North Carolina, but there is also huge cities with lots to do. I have found that in driving thru the state, most of it seems like its country and not lots to do. Try going to any of the big cities and you will see that your first impression wasnt right. :)

Yeah, I didn't see the whole city myself, but I just feel not willing to live at place like that if there is not much entertainment or businesses going on there. I might want to live somewhere close to the city side, but not within the city though.

I have lived in big cities, relatively small towns and a very small village in the countryside. When I moved to the village I was happy at first, it was very peaceful and there was less pollution, but after a while I missed the city. I found it a little annoying that I had to drive several miles every time I wanted to go a shopping mall, a coffeeshop or a restaurant. I was also very expensive to study in the city while I was living in the village and I had to spend a lot of money on gas. Now I live in a town, it is not as big as the city where I grew up, but I am able to walk to the shops and that is really nice.

You obviously did not see much of NC. But to answer your question, hell yeah, I could live in a rural area. Peace. Quiet. The great outdoors. I love it
The city is a nice place to visit, but I don't want to live there. You can have the hustle and bustle, the incessant NOISE of the city. People are always in a hurry. They're rude. Traffic sucks.
Take me awayyyy...

Well we seen the South and the Rural Area's in Shows like The Andy Griffith Show, Mayberry RFD, Petticoat Junction and Green Acre's. Those Shows are about Life in the Small Sleepy Towns in the USA. As many Folks have Lived Their and Write about Their Lives in that Part of American Life. No Happenings and Isolated from the Big Cities that have Big Populations. Either You Live in the Big Cities or Little Cities and Most People Move from the Small to the Big to make a better Life for Themselves. Rarely the from Big to Small. Yes most People would Find it Dull and Boring

You need to head over to a town called Lake Wylie. It is a nice suburban community just south of Charlotte. That whole area is mostly newer development. They have tons of strip malls, shopping places & things to do. They also have many decent establishments if you like to go have a drink & listen to some entertainment. Also, they are only a couple hours away from Myrtle Beach. Although the area you were in was rural, I would not ever under estimate the value of piece & quiet.

I don't think I could live like that at all . However, did you travel through main city's or just outlining area's? chances are not all areas of that state are like that. I mean even living here in the desert we have big city's and some cities that are either developing or just mostly if not all agriculture . I don't like living in the country. I used to, but now i love to shop and be around people all the time. Maybe if I had a big family that would be different but for now, point me to the nearest store please
