What Will It Take To End Chronic Wounds

Seriously when being a Diabetic, this can be one of the most serious things you would think someone would have to deal with. In reality there is no instant cure, unless God reaches down and heals you, and these are something that often can get worse to where eventually a person might end up loosing a leg, legs, or die from as well. It can lead to so many other issues it is not Funny as well.
The problem at least here in the United States is HEALTH CARE as a whole, and it makes you wonder why it gets even worse when there continues to be more and more epidemics out there like this I am sure. Unless you have at least $10,000 or more in real money not counting insurance most of the doctors hands are tied and most of them look at it all as no real thing to worry about as well.
Personally as someone who has had to deal with Chronic wounds on my right leg on and off since 2003 there are many times I want to scream. I have went to a wound clinic being told my Insurance would not cover most treatments and then being told my insurance does not allow me to go to some of the better places for wound care, not taking into consideration ever that this is something that could eventually be a huge detriment to other things health wise as well. Last wound clinic I tried could not even diagnose a Staph Infection and made me wonder what their motive anymore is besides money for sure.
Now the wound has increased to more than one, is draining etc. and the size was getting bigger there for a while be it not antibiotics that helped only somewhat as well. My main doctor has not been much help either as she seems to be so inexperienced on what to do for it as well. I feel like screaming and saying "Why Me?" and definately know I would not want anyone else to have to deal with this. I am sure a lot of it also stems from the filthy environment of a place I have to work in, but surely there needs to be a better solution for sure. I pray all the time asking God for help and sometimes wonder why this continues to be something I have to endure.

I'm not a Doctor and this is not medical advice, just historical information. During wars when they did not have antibiotics, they put honey on wounds and some heal up well.
I'm sure they've told you to only wear white diabetic socks or some type of wear.
Heat (around the outside of wounds) has been treated with aloe vera just like for burns, but not directly on the wound.
I call my insurance, usually there is a number on the back of the card. I ask. I was told by a Dr. one time that my insurance wouldn't pay for an MRI. Someone told me to call and they said that, "Of course we'll pay and here's the varification number." 3 months I suffered because my Dr. told me my insurance wouldn't pay.
I've seen protein skin patches used when there are holes, but no infections like bed sores. There is also a burn cream they use here on injuries that are holes.
Our wound center is very good as long as people do what they're told. I worked for people who never do what they're told. They still would get a little better, but not like they would have if they weren't so pig headed and would do what they're told. I['m sure you're talking care of yours per their orders. The elderly couple I worked with liked to be contrary.
I guess we'll pray. I hope things get better for you, esp. the wounds. But double check to make sure they really won't do the things you've been told.

Last yr when I was going to the Wound clinic here they kept on saying the Insurance I have was limiting them to what options they could take, and that must have been why when I got a Staph Infection they refused to do anything for it, and when I actually was told I had one, I had had one over a month. So after spending $2000 out of my pocket after insurance it makes me feel quite frustrated for sure.
I have considered using straight honey and see if it helps but with being Diabetic afraid to try thinking it might effect my Blood sugar levels as well. But I did get some more advice and a new antibiotic to try from my Doctor and if it is not really helping on Monday or Tuesday it will be time to call my Insurance again for sure.

Well, last Friday when I went back into my regular Doctor she gave me another round of Antibiotics while not really wanting to suggest anything or check to make sure it was not a severe infection but it has been working for me. When I brought up being scared because people loose legs, etc. because of wounds like this all she could say is well you have good feeling in it, so I am not sure why it will not heal. Quite frustrating for sure.
But the wound is looking a lot better even though due to the skin and the wounds being a little dryer my leg hurts a little more, but it is looking a lot better. So the antibiotics are helping.

All I know is that my Doc told me for 3 months my insurance wouldn't pay for an MRI and when I called the insurance had no idea why he thought that.
Even if they don't want to, fight it. It's pay now or pay later. Tell them perhaps they'd prefer to pay for an ampulation?
Everything I've read has said that honey has saved people from amputations throughout history. You can research it and see what honey for wounds and diabetes on sights hosted by Naturopaths and Homeopaths to see what they say about diabetes and honey/wounds.
Hope the Drs. help you and hope the advice you've gotten from others helps you. Take care.

Okay, the antibiotics that they gave you did not help, and it is a staph infection, is it MRSA or VRE? Can they or will they give you IV antibiotics? Is there something like "liquid skin" that you can put over it to protect it when you work. I know how hard it is and it is so frustrating when you cannot get answers. I also know it costs more in the long run when it is not treated properly to begin with.

Well, I have a doctors appointment today, and will definately be asking some questions. It does frustrate me to think that there is no easy fix, and it keeps on running into a lot of $$ for me with this issue. They never did check to see if it is a Staph infection a couple of weeks ago when they gave me one antibiotic, but since it is still draining, and around the sore area within the skin I know that is not good.
As for my work environment it is a grouse environment to be at, but since I would not have Medical I need to keep this job until something better comes along, but seriously this is one of the reasons why the wound has continued to get worse and has no real chance of getting better without proper treatment. Still makes me wish I was rich so I could see a specialist on this.

Let us know how it goes today, alright? My daughter's mother in law had to have a vacuum machine put on a chronic wound to cause it to heal.

My doctor was not much help... I am going to be doing more research and probably call my Insurance company if the New antibiotic she gave me does not really do anything. This personally has gotten past rediculous, and going on for way too long.

Can't you get disability or something if you prove the place you work is filthy and contributing to your wound?
I confess I don't know anything about wounds regarding the diabetic. But I do know that it sounds as if you're not getting good care. Can't you call your insurance company, tell them the problem and ask them to refer you to a competent doctor? The money they'll have to eventually pay if this gets out of hand is going to be horrendous.
We have several people here on myLot with diabetes and I know of at least one who has experienced something like you are going through. I hope they connect with you and can offer some helpful advice.

Well, I am in the process of trying to file some complaints with the State, etc. about some of the issues going on within my job due to the filth etc. there, and if the wound does not start looking a lot better and quit draining more I will be calling my Insurance company for advice with that as well. I just sometimes wish that there was a more easier cure for all of this and that there was more of an easy fix and solution for people who suffer from chronic not wanting to heal wounds as well.

Can you find alternative medicine on the Internet, be very careful to research anything carefully before you try it, but we have been able to find Chinese meds
through books and research from a pharmacy that carrys chinese herbs. I also wonder if aloe would help, I know that won't hurt, just apply the fresh leaves that you have split open and wrap the wound over night. I keep a large plant in my kitchen for this type os use. Most important keep your mind open and keep searching.

Many people have suggested trying Aloe and I did try it once and it really did not make much of a difference. But I do use something for the wounds that I was able to find online, and it has helped make quite a bit of difference over time. I also went back to my Doctor and got another antibiotic that looks like it is helping some as well.

I do not have to deal with wounds persay or diabetes either. My woes with the medical profession have to do with my son and his TBI. I asked the doctor for a referral to the neurological clinic at the medical shool and they didn't know why I needed one! I said, "He has a brain injury and needs to see the neurologist for that portion of his care."... like duh! It's crazy I think they are buying their degrees on line!

So True So True... and it makes you wonder where did the Good educated doctors go? I think unless you can 100% afford all the help a Doctor can give that is specialized in the area you need help with sometimes your hands are tied. Too many times they cannot offer something that will be able to really help you and instead it ends up costing everyone a lot more $$ as well. I know your situation with your son must not be easy, and just as frustrating as well.

Yeah but they don't really care about that as long as they can pad their pockets!

Well, these are quite painful at times, and can be quite annoying, but I do what I need to do, and hope for the Best. Sometimes it is truly up to me to keep on top of things and make sure they look better. Am on more antibiotics and hoping things continue to look better from here.

Well I have a Doctors apt coming up in a couple of hrs. and going to bring some of this up and see what she suggests as a next step. I am wishing somehow there would be a way they could try the IV antibiotics but will have to see, and let everyone know what happens from here for sure. I just know that with the skin still wanting to break down around the wounds and be damp all the time, that is not good.

I wish I could reach over and take your hand and help you out...and I know you have tried just about everything.....but one more thing to try...have you ever heard of the Walkins company? They have a drawing salve that is called Petro Carbo...I have seen it take and cure an infected sore in just a couple of days...please give it a shot! When I grew up we never went to the doctor...my parents used this for bad cuts...scraps on rusty nails...just a thought.

Are you sure that Watkins even exists anymore? I have not seen anything around by them in some time now. I have been trying something I found online which has helped to some extent, but problem is my skin around the sore area is breaking down and draining so that is making this not a fun thing and frustrating.
