Tackling jobs we don't want to do.

We all have days when we are faced with chores, errands, or responsibilities that we don't want to do. At times like these, it's easy to get into a bad mood and stay in one as we tackle these jobs. However, given the fact that our bad mood will not change the fact that we have to do these things, and will most likely make things worse, we could also try to shift our attitude. Many wise people have pointed out that it is not so much what we do as it is how we do it that makes the difference in our lives. Do you agree?

How does feeling overwhelmed fit into this? Usually I take a whole month to spring clean, and that is just the kitchen, bathroom, living room and maybe one bedroom. But this year I am taking college classes and I know I won't have as much time, so here I am, the fourth day of my spring break and I am working on the last of the kitchen and did the bathroom yesterday. No way can I finish the living room, let alone a bedroom by Monday..I am exhausted and don't feel like doing anything but read and sleep..:P

Well, overwhelmed or not, my attitude got my kitchen done today and whether I get the living room done in time or not, I can't help it but will do my best..:)

Hi carmelanirel, Thank you for commenting and yes, there are times when we are all overwhelmed. I don't think however that feeling that way has any real bearing on the question. While I realize that your situation at the moment, is different from most and I admire what you are doing, I feel that attitude still plays a big part. Blessings.

I suppose so. I must admit, I do that. Alot of times, it's doing chores that I don't believe I should be doing. Like when my girlfriend's kids are living here for free, or almost free, and I'm shovelling snow or raking leaves and I am thinking these kids should be doing rhis, not me. I suppose I should have either asked them to do it, or do it myself and think of happy thoughts. Being in a bad mood doesn't make it easier or accomplish anything.

Hi marty, How old are those kids? I think you should ask them to help or don't upset yourself because they aren't doing it. If you are doing all the work and feeling angry that they aren't helping, you are going to make yourself sick. Be content with things as they are or change them but don't beat yourself up. Thank you for sharing your story. Blessings.

I totaly agree with you, that's my point. And that's what I was doing. Not asking them to do it and just doing it myself, most of the time. Sometimes, he did get out there and do it. Anyway, it was her son and his girlfriend who are almost 30. They are gone now. And that's agood thing.

Like everyone else I have things I just don't like to do. My way is to handle them first and get them out of the way. I like to cut them up into small parts and then try to find a challenge in each part. A great big chore can become a puzzle part and when all are completed I have finished the whole terrible chore. Blessings

I do agree with the saying but doing jobs we don't like is really tedious. If your passion is of something else and you're working as a call center agent, for example, there's a big chance you might mess it up.

Hi frontvisions, Thank you for responding and your right, everyone should be working at a job that best conforms with their talents. No matter what we are doing however, sometimes we find jobs that we just don't like doing, however small. Blessings.

Hi Pose: I agree with you. You are right talking about this situation. However from my experience I know that is difficult to change your attitude when you really hate to do something. I try to feel relax and not focus on the things that I don't like about this activity when this happends. ALVARO

It's easier said then done. I find you can't force this state of mind, but you can try to redirect them. If your feeling angry or down thats a heavy emotion that can not be swayed otherwise at certain times. But yes being positive and happy is the key to anything no matter what situation you are in. For instance I am not happy with my job right now and I struggle to stay positive about it.

gah! I do tend to avoid tough tasks, and then when I do them I find that it wasn't actually as hard as I thought. Sometimes you put up mental blocks that prevent you from doing things.

I think that our attitude does have a lot to do with our performance at work, at home, at the store, in every aspect of our lives. If we have a poor attitude, we are less likely to do our best, whereas if we go at the task with a positive attitude and the attitude of "just do it, do it right, get it over with, and move on to the next task" we are more efficient and get a lot more accomplished.

We are all going to have to face doing jobs we really don't want to do. All we can really do at these times is just grin and bear it and hopefully the task will not be as extreme as we think it will be.

Yeah I do have to agree. There are times that I will dread but get up and do what I have to do and this way I can divert my attention from thinking so much. So I will although not happy do it and in the end I somehow feel a bit of relief.

I agree. We may not want to do certain things, because we it may be a bad day for us, but at the end of the day, a job is a job. And it has to get done. I`ve had my fair share of jobs I didnt like. But it dealt with it. Wasnt so bad.

Yes! It's really hard to do things that you don't enjoy. :| that's why me and my siblings are having a fight because of household chores. Nobody wants us to do it. but lately, My mother gave me a tip, she told me that whenever I'm going to do something always remember that when you do this, you're doing it for God's glory :)
