Recently i watched this show which is telecasted on Channel V India. This show was about bringing together those people who share friendship online and want to take their relation further. So, what the host do was to investigate how much truth did both the guy and the girl told each other.
But every time it's tons of lie. In the episode i saw, the guy told the girl that he had a very good body and had 6'3'' height and the girl said she was very slim. When they actually met, it was the other way round. The girl was way too fat and the guy was so thin.
It is so surprising to see how people fake their identity to impress the other party over the internet. I am stunned to see so many stories. Have you come across anything like this in your life?

I have in the past. But she came clean. I guess she was embarrassed. But still I find it disrespectful. We dated for awhile, but of course I was tired of the BS, so I ended it. I think online relationships are alright. As long as you`re sending appropriate pics to eachother. I mean nowadays everyone has a facebook. You can probably tell if a persons fake on there. So, it`d be easy to find out.

I am glad that your online friend came out clean. Definitely it is a bit easier to find out how fake a person is through Facebook but the movie "Catfish" was a tragic story. It is tough to detect the fake ones!

Hi!
It is easier to fake identities when someone chats because if there is no web cameras the one who is chatting cannot be seen. It gives a kind of pleasure to some people to conceal their real self and fool others. However, they forget that you cannot fool a person for a long time because lie cannot stand.

Hi. sweetme329. I deal with many fake people online. I have not came across anyone that will just lie about who they are though. I would not be surprised if they ever tell a bogus lie, it is just common on the Internet these days. It is very sad that people will just lie about any and everything. Them deceivers!

Really do have to be careful about online identities. There are people that will deceive you purposely. There are alot of stories here where people have been lied to and some of them have really terrible endings. I am always careful and encourage my girls to do the same. You just never really know. The thing about the internet is that it has opened up the world for us to meet one another and that's great..I have learned alot about cultures and people...I have made wonderful friends...but the downside is that it has also give criminals a wider territory too. Great discussion..the more people that are aware the safer we are.

Yes, this is definitely true. People see the world wide web a different world compared to us. It is their manner of escaping reality and deny the truth in front of them. It is also quite evident when I play Online games. A lot of teenagers who are labeled nerds, geeks and uncool prefer these games because they can look cool in their persona online. I do have sympathy for them--by living their lives full of lies.

Well I don't fake things online I'm careful about giving out info about myself to be safe, but I never straight out lie
Its creepy to know that people can lie so easily online, and you can never be certain of who's on the other side of the net, I know I'm real but I can never be sure about others online
Lastly I'm content with my physical appearance so I feel no need to lie about my appearance. anyway we just have to remember to be safe online and remember that people lie, and that there's a lot of crazy's hidding online.

hi sweetme,
LOL. That was funny. Maybe because they want to hide their flaws so that they can be easily liked or loved with the one they chat with~ which on the other hand is a big No No. I'd rather tell the truth because it is hard to expect and be accepted of something that I am not. I think that is very common with chatting, people would not completely tell the truth about themselves because they want to keep something or hide a lot of facts about them. But if the situation is being complicated you have to lay things on the table and admit who you really are otherwise you will not be able find love at all. Happy Lotting!

Here in the states, nothing like this surprises. It frustrates, and saddens me. I haven't personally experience this, but i've heard of a case, a little different and far more dangerous than the one you explained. This was a case of a pedophile. There was a pedophile on Facebook who had an idea to change is profile picture to an animated cartoon character say "scooby doo" He did this to friend other little kids to get them to like him, and end up meeting him. So changing you profile picture to an animated cartoon character became popular and everybody started changing their pictures to a cartoon character. Later it was discussed that a pedophile did this to lure young children. Again this saddens me.

Chatting with someone online is just for fun. But sometimes I took it seriously. I mean, I'm the type of person who doesn't fake my identity online just to please someone. I prefer that the chat mate would like me not just because of my Physical Characteristic but because of My Personality.

Making friends through chat sometimes is just for fun.And things can easily fake matter between two people. But some chatting make a real outcome.I have some friends find their mate through the net and now they were happily married.
I believe that making false representation in chat is always there. But once you find the right chatmate can be as true as possible.
Myself aware of revealing much about me through chat but I don't make false statement about myself either. I'd rather keep silent to keep things out of topic than putting out things which unreal.
Depends on how the person you meet in chat would be, anyway..
Have a nice day!

Perhaps I have in the past while chatting with people and maybe because they did not want to reveal their identity. But I can imagine it happens very often with so many scammers I do see how this a possibility.
I for one do not reveal too much of my own but have never perceived myself to be someone I am not.

Ya this is true 90% chatting is fake. But I cant understand how the girls/boys can beleived on each other even they have seen on TV news regularly. Sometime they meet each other and then either can cheat. Sometime boys call the girl and say I want to meet you and girl goes there why? Girls should not go there.
Chatting is not only for time pass it is to get the knowledge also like whenever I start chatting my first question is What is your education and then if he/she give the reply then I ask some question regarding their education and learn also by the discussion on chatting.

Even in real lives this things happens. Funny, but really most chatters do this. They tend to describe a beautiful person to their chat mate. But somehow, come to think of it it can protect a person for the bad entities online.... meaning those who have different motives.
