Hi my lotters There is a large march happening in the UK tomorrow Saturday 26th March,it has been arranged by the TUC against the cuts.. The coalition Government has made large cuts to the funding it gives to local government, this in turn means that local government has to make cuts to its local services. These will probably result in cuts to council services such as after-school clubs, elder day-centers,rubbish collection etc. The coalition Government say they have to make these cuts because the last Government left the country in great debt. If you live in uk how will the cuts affect you and your family and friends,or will they have no affect on you? Do you feel these kind of protests are a waste of time? If you live in the UK will you be going on the march? jojo732

shame nobody responded. I couldn't go but wish I'd been there. Did you go? if so how was what did you think of the violence/behaviour of the police? I don't agree with all the vandalism/violence that took place (but understand why it happened) - do support the 'occupation' of Fortnum & Masons though (apparently the 'normal' middle England type part of March cheered going passed and at the flag out the window and even stopped to support them when questioned.)comingt out with I've been very disappointed by people I respected and thought were sound coming out with the whole 'fake protesters/idiots/hijacking the march' comments. Don't know that the march itself will make much of a difference (the last government or two ignored the big one against Iraq) but it's been a way for people to see that it's not just them who don't agree, that different groups are on the same side. Shame about the offical part becoming a soapbox for Ed Milliband, making it look like it's just a Labour rally. How hypercritical can you get, talking positively about Martin Luther King & the Suffragettes and direct action then condemning (pun unintended) the very people using direct action. Some discussions about the March from urban75 (London based alternative/leftyish webzine/board) (probably NSFW) general discussion leading up to it and after http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/threads/342212-%E2%80%98March-for-the-Alternative%E2%80%99-26th-March-London/page55 live info/scene reports during and after the march http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/threads/345878-March-26-March-for-Alternative-LIVE-INFO-SHARE photos - http://www.urban75.net/vbulletin/threads/345910-March-26-March-Photos

Hi jend80 So sorry that I didn't respond sooner but my home comp gave up the ghost and I have only just replaced it,first of all thank you for responding to my discussion. Yes I did go on the march,I did not see any of the trouble, most of us were there to have a peaceful protest, there will always be those who come along just to cause trouble, but thy were a very small number. Whether our protest will achieve anything only time will tell, but like you say,it's good that many groups came together to say that we are unhappy about what is happening.. It was a very good turn-out, I would say there must have been over 100,000 people on the march,I agree with you about Ed Milliband trying to jump on the bandwagon, what a cheek considering how the last Labour government completely ignored the marches and protests about this country being dragged into the war in Iraq, but if there is a bandwagon for a politician of whatever party to jump on ..well they will... Any way thanks again for your reply. Have a great weekend. jojo732
