Do you have an Easter egg hunt in your house?

We've always had Easter egg hunts. When I was little my mom would hide the real eggs that we colored. When my kids were little we did that a few years also.. but I always worried about whether or not the eggs were still good enough to eat after being left out of the fridge. So then I opted for the plastic eggs filled with candy or toys. Sometimes I buy the prefilled plastic eggs that contain either candy or toys. Last year each egg was themed and there was a toy inside it. One child got all dinosaur eggs with dinos inside. Another child got jungle eggs with small animals inside. One child got eggs with fake rubber bugs inside. Etc. This year I had another idea. I found these really cute little piggy banks that are filled with gumballs and I got one for each child. The banks aren't very large at all.. but I still thought they were cute. So what I plan on doing is buying the empty plastic eggs and putting some coins in each one.. that way the kids can start filling up their little piggy banks! Do you do an Easter egg hunt? What sort of eggs do you use? What do you fill your plastic eggs with?

We use plastic eggs too and fill them with candy. I never used real eggs at all. I like your idea of encouraging them to save. It is a good habit to encourage whilst they are young. Temperature in high 80"s from yesterday. So hot. Am at work but not feeling too well. Taking loads of aspirin to keep my blood thin! Can't go home until late as guests are coming in to the villa so after work have to go tere and meet gusts. A hard rental as it is 15 people I had to hire an assistant cook and someone just to be in the laundry as their bed linen is changed every 2 days and towels daily plus all of their clothes. I don't know why I typed this as it really has no relevance but if I tell children I am not well they all start to panic.

You know I am always here to listen and show support and sympathy. I'm so sorry you have to work late on a Saturday when you're not feeling well! I have to work late tonight too.. 3pm til 9pm. I feel okay though.. except that I'm tired and the children are being stressful. I just went out in the kitchen to grab a bite and found that someone played with a loaf of bread and ruined half of it. It's stressful because these little things add up. Sure a loaf of bread is only about $1 here.. but it's the priciple of the matter. Children are very wasteful and it takes it's toll.

We have had a massive increase in flour and all baked prodcts. a loaf of bread (2lb is now U.S.$3 and we do not earn US dollars. It s scary. Y9o had every right to see red as a dollar is a dollar and food is not to be wasted. I keep all left over or bread going stale on a shelf in the freezer and when there is a izable mount then i defrost and make of buying bread crumbs. Good to have on hand when I cook meatballs or something. I have also used stalish bread as a base for mini pizzas for my grands.

Yes, gas is so high but my part time job allows me to fill up my tank once a week at their gas station. so appreciate this as it helps me much. Yes, my high bp is due to stress which s worsened as I am not sleeping well at all. Am now on meds for a while to get some sleep. Spent the day in bed yesterday just lazing around, watching television and reading. Didn't do a thing. Feeling sleepy now so it looks like the meds are beginning to work. I don't buy fresh milk again but no fat powdered milk. Blessings

We do an Easter Egg Hunt for the younger kids. We buy the plastic eggs and fill them with money and candy. It has always been just a little fun thing and the kids love it! Now the youngest is my niece and she is 9 so the activity will probably stop soon until we have grand kids. which should be a long while since I am clearly not old enough for that!

My oldest is almost 14 and still enjoys the easter egg hunt! I'll probably continue to do this for a long time, as my youngest is only 3.

We do an egg hunt each year for our kids. When my sister and I were younger the Easter Bunny hit eggs for us at our house. When we got a little older he also hit our easter baskets. One time my sisters was in the dryer and mine was outside on the closed in porch lol. Then at my Grandmothers for easter dinner they would hide eggs for all the grandkids to find. We hide eggs for our kids that they think are from the easter bunny and then they get to go to my grandmother's for the same egg hunt we did. We use plastic eggs to hide. I get some special candy to fill them with and then...well this is going to sound aweful, but I use leftover parade candy lol. Money is tight for us and they don't eat half the stuff anyways. So instead of paying to buy specially wrapped easter candy, we just throw some parade candy in some of them. They don't notice, they just have a blast finding the eggs. We also put change in them too. They all have piggy banks so they like getting money to put in them. We color real eggs but I don't hide them. We sometimes eat them for breakfast while we are hunting eggs lol.

We color eggs too for the fun of it. Nothing wrong with using parade candy.. until they're old enough to realize what it is, LOL.

when my kids were little sometimes we didnt have a house and lived in small apartments with no yard. if we couldnt go to a church for egg hunts, we would one of stay in the kitchen while kids ate their breakfast and the other one would hide eggs in the other 2 or 3 rooms. believe it or not, they look back fondly at that.

Aww, that sounds so much fun. You`re lucky. I never had that when I was a kid. Maybe because our place was too small. We lived in a small apartment. Thinking about it, it wouldnt be as fun. But now I`m thinkin of doing that with my little brothers this year. Thank you for the idea.

When I was a kid, my mom made little packages of gummy candies. When we were older, we decorated eggs. My child is too young, but in a few years I will pout small toys like finger puppets into plastic eggs for an Easter Egg hunt.

Oh, what a neat idea with the piggies. No one at my house is young enough for Easter egg hunts. I go to my brother's house and help with the Easter egg hunt at his church.

We dont dye easter eggs in my house because my kids dont eat hard boiled eggs and I dont either. The only thing I would use them for is deviled eggs and I rarely eat those. I like them but can only eat like 2 and I dont like them as leftovers the next day so to me buying eggs to dye is just a waste in my house. It was part of my childhood that I always looked forward to dying easter eggs so I do feel bad that I dont do it with my kids. In previous years my kids have done it at their grandparents house but not this year. We did an Easter egg hunt at my parents house. My sister filled a bunch of eggs with candy she bought and I filled a bunch of eggs with candy that I bought. We do this every year. The kids have a great time and have enough candy to last them a year as long as my mother doesnt get ahold of it lol. I think your idea with the piggy banks sounds great.

We color eggs for the fun of it, even though we don't hide the hard boiled eggs. We'll still eat them, we love eggs. I go through a lot of eggs in this house!

Oh that is right the Easter bunny is coming to Town! Gosh how I miss those days, we use to color all sorts of white eggs in so many fancy colors. The kids use to make a huge mess but it was so worth it to see their happy face. I use to fill the plastic eggs with chocolate Easter candy and jelly beans. What fun that was to see them happily open their baskets.
