As many of u know i had a new grandaughter born this week.. My favorite grandson got to asking his mom how the baby got in her belly. She told him it took four people, God, her & his dad & the doctor to get the baby out. She had explained to him in 6 year old terms that he had been born by c-section & the baby would be to. Here's the kicker, lol. He told her he understood about God, her & the doctor but how did his daddy fit in to it. She told me she told him to ask again when he was at least 10, lol.I got so tickled when my DIL was telling me this. I told her i hoped he didn't decide to ask his bobo[me] about it. Do u have any good answers??

Nope, not really, except that it is a special kind of love that only mommies and daddies share with each other.

i could not think either, what good answer will be. maybe i will answer, the way her mom did. if my four year old will ask, the same way he did, i guess my answer will be, ask me again in six years. i wish Zayzay still has bobo. both already have passed away when he was still a baby.

Now days you can go online and find pictures of the uterus and show the child. I would find a book maybe at the library or book store that is age appropriate. Or even go online and find some information that is. They always say to talk in age appropriate language. With the internet you can find most anything.

Thanks for your response & suggestions. I'm going to leave that up to his parents. I think it's their place to do that.

LOL...it can be an uncomfortable question but I think if it is answered age appropriately..it's all good...because you never want them to think you lied. That was my biggest worry. I had mine 5 years apart so there were questions..lol..I told them it was a special hug between a mom and a dad. They seemed to accept that just fine and now that they are older, they realize it wasn't a lie.

hi jen, i THINK U HANDLES IT VERY WELL. i'M LIKE U I DON'T THINK U SHOULD EVER LIE TO CHILDREN ABOUT ANYTHING. I got onto my son about that when Ryan was little. If they were going somewhere he couldn't go which was very, very seldom they would tell him they were going to work. I didn't like that. Hope things are good w/u. Thanks for responding.

That is hilarious. My kids also wondered how I was involved in the birth of them. My daughter was about 6 or 7 when she asked about it all. My wife sat her down and told her roughly how it all goes down, but then a year or so later she asked again, so my wife took her out for lunch and told her the whole truth of everything. She is now learning about it at school at the moment too. I have not talked to my son about the birds and the bees, but I am pretty sure that his sister has told him everything about it!

That is just to cute, very smart little boy you have there for a grandson. I am lucky that my kids haven't came to me with those type of questions. I'm lucky that my oldest already understands the concept of babies and how they get here. I just learned that my youngest (age 9) knew Santa wasn't real since she was 7. She never said anything because in her own words, wanted to see how I would play it out. I think if I were in your shoes and he came to me. I would simply ask him, what did his mommy say to him. If he told you what she said, then I would say, well then best you wait til then huh. Still to cute though.

That is always one of the hardest things a child asks for an explaination....and I never had a good answer....I am kind of shy and when the kids need a explaination....well I can't remember what I said but probably skirted the issue!

Oh boy!! LOL Oh boy!! Here comes the fun part!! The innocent probing questions!! LOL Gosh, I love kids! They're so cute at that age!! You know, my ex sister in law and her son asked how he came into this world and she kept putting him off and putting him off but then he'd get some answers from riding his school bus and kept asking his mother what this and that meant. Finally she didn't want him to get the wrong answer or smutty answer from someone else so she told him the truth. He was so grossed out over the whole explaination that he said, "Gosh, you and dad must've REALLY wanted me to do that!" LOL So in saying that, it might be wise for your dil to tell him before someone else does! I feel this way, if a child has the mind to ask such a question then he has the right to know the truth. Just depends on how much of the truth to give him/her.

I don't remember what I told my children about human reproduction, but my son recently told me that I was very clinical in my approach to the subject. He said that both he and his sister thought that was the way they preferred.

well you may have to tell him the same. hopefully by that time you will not be the one to have to do it. my oldest son asked when he was 8yrs and my oldest daughter was 7yrs. mom how did the baby get in your stomach? my daughter popped up and said mom swallowed a seed silly. i said well its not quite that way. God put it there and i will explain better when you are older. of course i did really have to tell all my kids myself because they never had anyone else willing and i cant remember exactly how i told them.

I honestly do not remember what I said. My husband must have had the 'talk'. I do remember that when I was pregnant with Rachel I used this opportunity to show them pictures of how the baby was growing inside of me, I do hope that he doesn't ask you. But you cam always tell him to ask his parents!!

There are books about how parents can tell this to small children if they ask. They have the bonus that thereĀ“s love among them. My own parents never got beyong bees and flowers although my father was a scientist. I learned it the hard way from school mates with a foul mouth. So I told my kids, little by little, as they asked.

Hi Antiquelady Well that one way of putting it and its actually kinda cute the way your daughter put it I told my kids the truth but I put it in a way that they could understand it I said that when Mom and Dad fell in love they loved each other so much that they got very close to one another so close that their bodies connected together and became so that they could pass through dayy and grow inside mom's tummy for about nine months I'm sure glad they didn't ask for more detailed information!! Eventually when they got older I explained to them what the closeness actually was ... I think they were around 9 or 10

Ha ha ha...nothing could be more appropriate to tell your 6-year old grandson. I do appreciate his mom's answer to him. When asked about the role of the father, I would have answered him this way: God was the supervisor, the doctor's job was to bring out the baby and your dad acted as his assistant.

Lol curious little one, huh? Same goes for my little 9 year old brother. I just tell him, dont worry about it. But that doesnt really stop him from asking. Hmm, have you told him the stork story? That might work. I feel it`s not necessary to tell them yet. They`ll learn about it when they are abit older, but that`s abit young. Dont blame him for being curious though.
