The office i am working is into bible sharing and bible studies..it was this way even before i was working. It is every saturday and they would read the bible and discuss stuff..and it is not really something i am not used to since i wwent to private catholic schools and read the bible before ( just not all of it ) anyways, i am working here now for 3 years and i have been trying to really get into it..like really familiarize the verses and be able to know them just by hearing the words and know where to look for them and stuff like that..but honestly i can't! But the other employees here can for some reasons i cannot get myself into it..its like i just can't. its as simple as that, i can't. But if i think of it, it is probably because i find it a mediocre. No offense but i find it that some are just pretending, since its our boss leading the study..well i just can't. i do attend so as to give my presence but lately i have been avoiding it. Not that i do not have GOd in my life, but i do and i have faith in Him...but there are just things that i do not really take literally in the bible..

The flesh will never let us read let alone study the bible. As a former Catholic, the bible was never important to me. Today I realize why...As a former Catholic, I was taught I had to do things in order to be right with God! Get God's favor. As a bible believing Christian now, I realize that no matter what I do in the flesh I can never win God's favor Actually, just reading and knowing the bible won't get God's favor either! Some brag about knowing God's word, but the devil even knows that! Read in the bible where Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Matt. chp 4. The devil was able to recite the bible to Jesus in trying to tempt Him. True the devil always tries to distort the truth, but it shows in this chapter, he knows the bible! And he'll try to keep us out of the bible everytime!
Perhaps in your case, like I was, reading and trying to understand the bible from the mind will never work! It has to be a heart thing! I suggest reading the whole book of John! Not just once, but a few times! But before reading it, while you're reading it and after, pray, ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding as to what you arereading! Why John? read it, then you will see! I'll be praying for you! Be blessed!

Are you not a Christian then? It seems strange to say you don't take it literally, when taking the Bible literally is part of being a Christian. Maybe you just don't really believe?
That's ok! But be honest with yourself either way. G-d does not need people pretending to be Christians if they are not. He would rather you be honest with yourself.

I am a Christian andy, what i meant by not taking them literally are the words in the Bible. And i am being honest with myself, i believe in Christ. There are just ways, especially with my religion ,Catholics that i just do not want to follow.

lol Jaz. Well, that's just how we are (protestants). lol. That was pretty much how my Sundays were when I was a kid. I actually missed it when I stopped going in high school. I want to go back to it, that's how I envision my family to be. Explains why I still haven't started a family. lol. Differences in religion is really difficult.

The trouble most people is that they take everything in the Scriptures, whether it is the Bible, the Hindu,Muslim,Buddhist Scriptures literally and with blind belief and at their face value. However most things in the Scriptures have a hidden meaning which cannot be interpreted correctly by the layman.Nowadays we have priests who blindly mug the scriptures and put their own interpretation which they communicate to the layman who misunderstands them because they are misleading. That is why there is strife in the world in the world due to misinterpretation of the religious texts. It does not matter if you can`t remember the verses of the Bible by heart, what matters is how you conduct yourself in society, live like a good human being, show kindness and compassion to your fellow human beings. The great saints of the world were not literary scholars or intellectuals but pure, humble humans with the milk of kindness and compassion flowing from their hearts. They sacrificed everything just to get the love of God and when they received it, they shared it with their fellow humans and tried to bring them onto the path of righteousness.

Yes so true, the one who lead the bible study was our boss and he said that in Deuteronomy 5..i forgot which exactly and it says there that it is forbidden to have images of God or anything that is in heaven and he would always comment on Catholics since catholics has so many forms of statues of God and saints..which i really find at times irritating since why does he have to "insult" or comment..

Okay, the reason why you are peeved is because you are being coerced into knowing the verses they would like you to know. Knowing the Bible is not like that. You should not be compelled to read, listen and share. You read what you like to read. In my case, I wanted to know more about Joseph and his brothers and the forgiveness of a sibling, David and Jonathan and their story of friendship. Gradually, I read more and more. I discovered Job and his agony, Ruth and her loyalty, and that the book of Numbers is a tally of many items that could very well mean the lost treasures of biblical proportion, ha ha!
Anyway, take your time. Read when you feel like reading. Pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance. The longing to read will come. Before you realize it, you have read the entire Bible two times over...

Once, when I was at the crossroads of my life, I opened the Bible and I was shown Psalm 23. The verses are prayers of David, the shepherd turned king, and the lines go... If I should ever walk, in the valley of darkness, no evil would I fear, You are there to show the way. Ever since, I know that God will never abandon me. So I feel everyday that I had to return the favor and communicate with Him everyday. How? By reading His words and His stories...

We also have regular bible study in our office. There are those colleagues whom I observed just like feeling as what you feel about it. I have no right to judge you because we have different doctrines learned. We'll I believe Satan blinded people to in order that the light of the gospel might not shine unto them. As it is said in I Corinthians 2:14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. Why not allow God to reveal Himself to you. You will not be able to understand His word by your own knowledge. Let Him give you wisdom that the light of the good news will shine in your heart. No one can ever force you to receive these teaching except by God's power.

You have to trust me here. There are so many things in the Bible that you just do not understand yet. I suggest you ask someone like a pastor to help you out, and you will see that the Bible is also a book of logic.

Don't try to force yourself into it. There''s no need for me to memorize the verses (as for me) so long as the teachings you have learned from it stays in your heart. What's important is you follow what god wants you to do. I don't think god will give you a written exam or recitation regarding the verses of the bible during judgement day. Everyday, we are tested by him. We will eventually be judged not by what our memory can retain but by how we used our hearts and how we touched others' souls as according to his teachings. One may memorize each of the words in the bible photographically but if you do not know it by heart and if you do not put into practice what it teaches then I think it makes no sense.
