Deleted Discussions and a Lesson Learned

Have you ever posted a discussion with a link to an article and had responders who would not go to the source and read the article, but who felt they could have an opinion anyway? It's very frustrating to encounter. How many times have you read a response where the responder bragged that they never clicked on links? Or in reading their response, it was obvious they did not read the site you posted the link to? I am sorry that I copied and pasted an article that I felt was important to discuss. It truly did not occur to me that this was not acceptable. I should have put a link in the discussion. But before you judge me in doing so, consider the reasons I took this short cut. I did not re read the guidelines upon returning to MyLot after a year off. That is my mistake. But it is also the mistake of others who refuse to inform themselves and still want to have an opinion. It's very frustrating to a OP to know that some just will not click on the posted links and post responses anyway. The person who reported the discussion and I have talked and I feel it was not done maliciously. I'm thankful for that. I value my reputation here. I Know others say that they are not here for money and are suspect, but I am NOT primarily here for money. I am here for learning and for helping others to learn. I am not here for ego, or I would not be posting this right now. Lesson learned, read the guidelines before posting ANY discussion! And ignore those who refuse to click on posted links. So, am I forgiven?

I always copy and paste part or all of an article with is important to my discussion but also post the link to the article I am quoting from. This is listed as on the DO section of the guidelines "DO Make sure to post useful links in discussions when necessary to provide authoritative guidance or to refer to a third party article." When someone brags that have not read the article or it is obvious in their response that they did not read it. I usually just give them a negative rating for their response. Occasionally I will post a comment congratulating them on their lack of intelligence.

These people are just like our politicians who pass bills without reading them first.

I understand... I guess I am so intent on getting the info out there that I did not consider other important aspects of mylotting. I'm learning how to manage those who are frustrating me. I really dislike using the neg rating...but I guess it is there to use if needed. It just seems mean to me. And misunderstandings are so easy online, I don't want to judge someone and be wrong.

I guess it could be said the mistake was made because I DIDN'T READ the guidelines.

I will be a bragger on this one! I am one who does open all links and does read articles before I comment. LOL don't congratulate me because generally I like to make sure that when I respond I know what I am responding to. Nope I am not here for the money, gee if that were true I would be rich, lol.. I really enjoy the site daily and although the pat on the back says thanks for contributions it sure feel nice to have the incentive. As for forgiveness we must all learn from mistakes, dust off and not do so again, that's all. It is the ones that do so, continue to do so and never stop that worry me because shortly after they are involuntarily removed. *sad*

I admit, it's nice that it's there. I use it at Amazon to buy lot's of books about how evil Obama is... Seriously, I enjoy MyLot BECAUSE I love to debate the issues and I love reading other points of view. The money is secondary. Very secondary as it is not much. Contrary to whiteheather's opinion...I like you.

Well I am not offended one bit. If I were here for the money I would not spend 90% of my time helping as I do. It does not bother me that some feel the need to have their own opinions. Besides what money?? Hopefully no one feels that there is a whole lot of monetary gain from myLot and thank you debrakcarey!

hi debrakcarey, What is important now is that you've learned from it and that you are willing to correct your mistakes. And I like what you did, you create this discussion so that others will learn from it as well.

Yes friend we should learn the lesson due to deleted discussion or answer. When I was new in mylot then my 3 answers and 4 discussion deleted but afterwords I understand what type of topic can be put in mylot and now good response on my discussion and no deleted. My previous discussion no response only 2 to 3 responses are there but now received good responses.

Life is a learning process. I was at fault, I admit it. It was not intentional, but I should have paid closer attention the guidelines.

I made a thread on here ages ago where I could have posted links, yet refused to because I wanted to respect to privacy of people. The subject I was discussing hit close to home. Yet a couple of people on here took it upon themselves to take it to a whole new level. Created nonsense drama and I eventually had it deleted. I brushed it off as a couple of nosey foolish people with no life so they come on here thinking they know everything.

I try not to post discussions that are personal. I have, and it was nice that my fellow mylot members came to me with support. It can go either way, I suppose. Sorry you had to go through that. And I admire you that you were big enough to brush it off.
