Owen Hargreeves is no doubt a brilliant player but he's had so many injury problems over the last three or four years and I think he's another example of what happened to Michael Owen with him failing to ever get back to his best and always facing a constant struggle to stay fit.
If you look at that article you will learn that Hargreeves has just had another setback after all the time Fergie spent trying to sign him all his efforts have been for very little. As United spent 17million for which has just gone down the drain with only thirty nine appearances for United since May 2007 now that's just shocking.
Should Hargreeves call it quits? I do think he's an amazing player but I doubt he'll ever stay fit and although I'd love him to prove me wrong as he'd be a perfect player at United especially with the inevitable retirement of Paul Scholes and lets face it Michael Carrick or a fit Hargreeves? Theres only one answer for me and that's Hargreeves hands down a more complete player .
Hargreeves though may be left with little choice in retiring as his contracts up this summer and whether or not Fergie stays faithful Hargreeves is hard to know, he may just find himself with very little takers and have advertise his availability like Michael Owen .
So what's your take on the Owen Hargreeves situation?

I think his career was over two years ago itself. I think he is one of those players blighted by injuries. The last time I saw him really fit enough for a decent period of the season was when he was playing for Bayern Munich. Since then he has always been on the injury table more than the playing field. For Man U I think there are less number of matches that he has played than the number of matches he has missed due to injury.
I think his career is over.
Cheers!

I do agree he has played very few games for United and the last time he was fit was when he was playing for Bayern Munich with every comeback game at United he seems to have a recurrence of an injury. He's had so many injuries but I do think fergie will keep him on as he's got undoubted talent and I think he may just get offered a pay as you play contract to him next season. Like one of the other posters said he'd make a great coach and I could see this as the next step in his footballing career, as for his footballing career I think it's over .

He is a Bayern hero, because he has played in the 2001 UEFA Champions League final which Bayern has won against Valencia. Because I am a true Bayern fan I will always respect Owen Hargreaves, because he was fully committed to Bayern in the period he was there. He had many injury problems then as well, but when he played,he did it very well.He had a major talent, but his body hasn't matched with his talent. He is like so many other players, who could have been great if they would have had stronger bodies:Mehmet Scholl or Sebastian Deisler, both very talented players, but they were always injured.
If Hargreaves cannot recover anymore, I think the only good choice for him would be to retire and then becoming a coach. Judging after his playing style, he will be a very good trainer.

I do agree Owen Hargreeves is an exceptional talent but least at Bayern you managed to see him play some games at United I've seen him play next to nothing in terms of playing time. He is certainly like some of the players you mentioned could be great if they had of stayed fit for an extended length of time. Tim Cahill, Mikel Arteta are in the same bracket both brilliant players but always end up injured so many times over the course of the season .
I do think Hargreeves should be given a rolling contract next season and at lowered pay but given the number of years he's now been injured I'm not sure he needs any more chances to prove his fitness. I think he would make a fantastic coach though so I do think he should be a player-coach next season at United least that way he'd have the best of both roles if he ever regains fitness and then also be able to pass on a lot knowledge and attributes to the youth in the side .
