When you download, what do you do in the meantime?

I from the day got my Internet connection at home. Have been a regular user of it. I like download files form the Internet too like many. In the mean time I find to do many things, its like listening to music with browsing, playing online chess, chatting, reading e-books, and also try to find out other things to do. My new Internet connection plan allows me to download at 230ob/sec but the old plan only constricted me to a maximum of 18kb/sec.
Tell me what you do in the mean time. Share you thoughts with us. Happy Mylotting!!!

Wow, you must have been really happy moving from 18kb tp 230kb/s. I on the other hand can only get up to 60kb/sec and that is quite slow on average. I have to find ways to keep myself entertained while downloading large files like movies even on torrents.
The most obvious thing I do it watch other movies that I have already downloaded or bought a DVD of. The next thing on my list is to play some offline games (the most effective way for me by the way) and watch the time fly by.

Well 60 kb/sec is a descent speed for downloading but yeah on average connectivity due to lot of distortion and errors the speed drops down. Watching movies is a superb method, isn't. Playing awesome games is another fantastic method for sure. The time as you rightly depict fly away very soon.
We do find newer things to do every time, isn't.
Happy using Internet, and Happy Mylotting.

I download lots of movies and songs. While waiting for it to finish I watch previously downloaded movies, sometimes I watch T.V., sometimes I take a nap, but the best way to wait for is to chat with friends.

Many of us do the same, watching the previously downloaded movies and listening to the songs is the best to do. Also chatting with friends and keeping in touch with many of our older friends could be wonderful. In between downloads going for the nap is pretty usual. Well, I also chat with my friends and loved one's mostly when the downloads are in progress. As the chatting doesn't take up most of our bandwidth, there's not much of a sacrifice in speeds, huh!

Hi tintukm,
These days as such I am hardly ever downloading anything form the internet. Prevously i used to download torrent files mostly of movies or some softwares. They would take days as there were not many leechers there. So what i used to do was put my computer on at night and let it download all night because i have only 512 kbps connection which gives me download speed of about 60 kbps that too if there are too many leechers there, if the count falls then so does speed, sometime to less than 5 kbps. Now i use genuine softwares and buy genuine dvds of movies so i dont need to download.

Well, the speed you are having is mostly suited for browsing and downloading smaller files. Yet the average speed can be at times pretty slower. The errors and such distortions result in these slower speeds. The genuine software and original DVD movies are to be always preferred. Piracy is an important element in the world these days.

All these things you mention over here pretty interesting. Reading news could be an very useful one, not only would be sitting idle and wasting time but with news reading we could make ourselves well informed about the on going facts, huh! Happy using the world wide web in all possible ways.
Good Day to you.

Often times,I download movies, songs and games from the internet.
Most of the time, while waiting for my download file to finish, I watch previously downloaded movies. If not, i keep my self busy checking my facebook account and playing farmville or do some house chores. At other times, I download only when I am about to sleep and left my computer on. By the time, I woke up the next morning, all downloads are done.

The social networking sites are very much in attraction for the rectification our boredom. Yet playing games let us sacrifice the bandwidth and speed, but the smaller java enabled games wouldn't do much harm though, huh. I liked the sleeping thing and waking up in morning to see all the downloads up and running at 100%. I also did the same when I was sticking up with my !18 Kb/sec plan.

I download stuff that's work-related in nature. I haven't downloaded music or movies. Although I have a relatively fast connection, some of the files I download are big and may take a few minutes to finish. But when I'm downloading, I usually watch a TV or grab a smoke or something. I don't multi-task in the use of my pc. Besides, the waiting time enables me to relax for a while since once it's finished, I know I'll be in for a long haul with the work I'm gonna do.

Very well indeed. Work can't shouldn't be messed up by another thoughts, right. The perfect time for you to relax and find a clam period of time, huh! A speedy connection would definitely be helping you a lot with all that you desire to do with all that big presentations, documents, videos for it and similar stuffs form the world wide web.
My wises for you to have a wonderful work life along with the rare time to find for yourself too.

I have a decent enough connection and computer that I tend to continue browsing the web or listening to Music whilst downloading something. If it's a long download I usually do something else and leave it to download though.

Good to know you have a satisfied Internet Provider Service. I hope its affordable. Music is a good combination with the downloading, it most of the time makes the time go on fast. When there's a ill-connectivity, I go mad and keep on trying for the connection to get established. Rather the huge files shouldn't when are of urgency then its best to leave 'em, right.
Have a good day.

An nice one, I hope the downloads are all completed, huh. What plan do you u e these days, a prepaid one or the postpaid one. Many usb plans are also at its peak these days. I would have opted for it but there's no range for those networks sadly, my new laptop would be best suited with a USB stick internet, yet I'm happy after all that selection and going for the 230 Kb/sec plan at least.

Morning,tintukm!
Well, for me,basically anything.I usually just leave it there and do my own stuff.Like for now,I have my eMule open and let it download while I'm checking my e-mail box, responding to and starting discussions here, talking to my friend on Skype and listening to music.I sometimes watch movies or TV shows as well.So technically everything I do on the Internet.
That's quite an awesome speed you've got.It can be really nerve-wrecking when the speed is slow.
Have a nice weekend!

Good to know yo never had any trouble spending the time between downloading, huh! All the things remain the same for you and by which there's no time to lose form your side. My speed has been this form the past 2 months only dear babyanna, I now am happy to have it and its almost affordable because of the fact that the providers are the Government based organisation.
Private networks are of pretty adjustable prices yet in my area its not yet put into use, so there's no other option.
Happy writing, good day to you too,

As for me, my download speed is around 60kbps so it takes me about 4-5 hours to download a movie...It is quite a long time to sit in front of a computer and doing something else (which somehow hard for me - I watched and did almost everything in my laptop!), so I prefer taking a nap, or hanging out with my friends and be back home just before the download finishes...But I much prefer the former, because I am "nocturnal" in some sense... Nevertheless, if I am not sleeping or hanging out with my friends, I will watch any movie in my living room (although I believe I have watched some of them for almost the 10th time! )
Frankly, I don't like to disturb the process (which means I need to wait longer if I did!), so I would prefer staying away from my computer when I am downloading...
I believe it is a good practice when downloading big files, so that you don't do the silliest of mistakes which can cost you your download files...
Happy downloading! (and MyLotting!)

Wonderful habit from you. The constant sit in front of the computer isn't good too. You get time for nap, hanging out with friends and also watching movies. When there's superb collection of the movies at hand then the random watching is not at all a problem, isn't. Most of the time we would make the mistakes that you speak during downloading, in forms of not resuming ability files and other silliest of mistakes can take place. Going on for the download to go on its own is the best thing to let happen at times.

I sometimes listen to music or watch other tv shows I have already downloaded. I used to constantly do this years ago, and a lot of the time now too lol just not every second I'm not working. I used to read a book as well at times. Mainly watch other things I have downloaded while new episodes or other downloads are going.

To keep in stock the previously downloaded files and using them then can be thought by most of us. Music and movies combination is the mostly suited thing to go with. If we have a good book to read then that also lets the time go on smooth, books are amazing piece of art forms. The speed mustn't be sacrificed as that would then make us sit a little longer, if we use the speed for other purposes while downloading.

I see you are a chess fan. Well anyway when I am downloading a large file where I can spend time doing something else then I would be doing my normal surfing. I would be on mylot as well as on facebook chatting with some friends. A few times I would go watch a movie online (that usually slow up the download speed though) or watch a short cartoon. But i would basicallly be doing my normal surfing.
Oh by the way your old plan was really slow or was it that you miss off one of the zero on the numerical value of the speed. If not then I have no idea how you actually manage with that old download speed. Mine download speed not is about 200 kb/sec. I would be so happy if it was about 1mb/sec, now that would definately be sweet.

Yes, I love chess. In the meantime surfing is like sacrificing the top speed. I like to complete the download first and then indulge in the regular browsing. My older plan didn't restrict me from downloading, I used out my computer in the minimal power state first and then go on with the downloading. It takes 9pm to 6am for downloading 350 Megabytes. The maximum speed never remained stable for ore than 5 minutes. The older plan from B S N l' s Tarang wireless connectivity phone, but now its the regular line phone broadband.
I am happy enough with the speeds, yet there a 2.5 GB day limit and 2am-8am free usage time.
The 1mb/sec plans would take a little time to get a it cheaper and more importantly to get employed first in remote places.
