We were advised to drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday. But do you know that drinking too much water is risky and dangerous? According to Dr. Ben Kim from the site (drbenkim.com) I have read, a Californian wife died from drinking too much water. This was after joining a Water-drinking contest that was sponsored by a local radio show. According to the site the contest promoters promised a free Wii video game machine to the the contestant who drank the most water without urinating.
According to Dr. Kim, whenever you disregard your sense of thirst and strive to ingest several glasses of water a day just because you have been told that doing so is good for your health, you actually put unnecessary strain on your body in two major ways: (1) ingesting more water than you need increase your total blood volume. (2) Your kidneys must work overtime to filter excess water out of your circulatory system.
JUST WANTED TO INFORM YOU GUYS IN CASE YOU DON"T KNOW.

yes, i could happen. Water intoxication. We are advised to drink atleast 8 glasses, but it also depends on our activity or how much water we are losing everyday. especially when it's hot, or summer, we are more thirsty, so drinking more than 8 is ok.

It depends on the situation. You need to drink more water when your are expose to the heat wave of the sun. You drink water 6-8 glasses on the daily basis. If your having trouble with your kidney yeah it could kill. Through our kidney the waste being excreted.

Anything in excess is of course dangerous and drinking water is no exception.
But these incidents/similar surveys generally mislead people who drink less water. Firstly 8 glasses of water daily - is nowhere near a quantity that can cause any harm/danger to our body. Moreover we do not drink 8 cups of water all of a sudden but only when we feel thirsty and when our stomach can accommodate it. Inadequate drinking is more harmful for our kidneys.. After all, if you live in a relatively hot locality, half of what you drink goes out as sweat without getting filtered by kidney. On the other hand, after sweating, our blood goes short of water - sacrificing the water content of our blood for the filtering process which is much more dangerous than drinking a few cups extra.
So guyz, please never be afraid to be taking in adequate amount of water, your body badly needs it, under normal mindset/circumstances we can never drink excess water... just make sure you avoid these experiments/competitions involving drinking/eating...
Nice discussion... cheers!

as the saying goes, 'anything taken in excess is dangerous.' We are advised to drink, but. of course within the limit that our body could take. Water is very essential in the body since it dissolves salts and let us perspire and urinate more, thus eliminating unwanted dirts in the body.

It's simple really. Too much of anything is bad for you. That's how I look at it anyway. Just as you can't get enough of something you can always have too much of that exact thing. Exercise, drinking water, eating to much fruit at once, etc. Healthy things can be hazardous as well. Just the way I look at it.

Oh I see. What a sad case! I drank almost 20 glass of water yesterday and I feel fine today. I am not drinking these much everyday but when the day is humid. I think too much water would not be good also for the health as you say your kidney work overtime to filter excess water out of the circulatory system. So, it is true that drinking 8 glasses will be fine.

I agree with you and I remember one time I drank wayy to much water. I had this headache that I could swear came straight from hell.It was horrible and my head was just throbbing the whole day.
So I usually just drink 4-5 glasses of water a day or when I get thirsty.
