For the most part I like cooking. But some foods that taste so good are a pain in the butt to prepare. Like artichokes, you have to do a lot to get to that tasty heart. After cooking it FOREVER. And some people I know can't stand to cut up tomatoes it seems such a petty task to me.
What food do you or your family love to eat but you can't stand to prepare? Do you still prepare it often even though it's a pain?

i am not good with cooking nor preparing, lucky i have a wife who does that for me. but if ever we have left overs i am the one who is incharge of reheating it if we want to eat it again. for me i dont like preparing spaghetti. i end up making it into one big mess. har har har. if i heat the sauce i will find out that the sauce is too little for the left over pasta... and somethings like that. but i love making garlic bread.... wife loves that too. but spaghetti i would rather wait to be served har har har.

thats why my wife gets mad... she will say what is with you and spaghetti's? har har har you will just re-heat it and end it up whining than eating. har har har. so now she knows it when the food to re-heat is spaghetti she will do it and i will do the garlic bread... i mastered it already. and by the way i also set and clean the table and wash the dishes too.

Lol I am sure for your wife spaghetti is one of the easiest to prepare. No cutting up anything or major hard work. But yes you do have to have the amounts right to make it taste good.

I hate to clean celery. It´s so difficult to take aways all the threads that are not nice to have in your mouth! And much as I love to eat it, I do it seldom for that reason. I don´t find difficult artichokes though. I don´t mind cooking food that will be done in a long time. I just place in covered in a big pot and go to my computer to play or work. I check it when I go to the kitchen for coffee. The only problem it may have is that too much water could have evaporated and you have to replenish it.

Yea the part I hate is taking of leaf by leaf only to get a little meat. Food you have to work for lol. I have never done this with celery, I do hate those thing between my teeth. I didn't know you could take them out. I will have to try this now. I guess you learn something new everyday.

I peel celery but it is a big task. In my coutry we eat artichoke a lot but many times we just put the whole artichoke in a big dish with a small saucer of vinagraitte nearby. We each take it leaf by leaf, dip in in the vinagraitte, get the meat with our teeth and discard the rest of the leaf in the plate.
I also use artichokes for quiches and pies and also for pasta sauces. In those cases I take the meat from the leaves with a spoon.

Get the slap chop for tomatoes. No problem. I can't eat tomatoes, but if I did, I'd have the slap chop.
Things that involve shredding like cheese in a bread, cutting finely like nuts, or take lots of time like turkey stuffing from scratch (not out of the box), I save for special occasions for when I have more time.

Yea my magic bullet helps me with some things. For tomatoes for salad it chops them up to much, along with a lot of other things. I can't do onions in it either. I will have to look for this slap chop thing.

To be honest, I'm not so good in making or preparing food. It's just luck or coincidence when I can hit the right taste. Therefore, I would prefer to eat out and my favorite food is grilled burger from a particular burger joint. Definitely, I do not know the secret to its yummy taste.

Hopefully their burgers aren't frozen like most places. The secret may just be you don't have to cook it.

I like to bake so anything that concerns baking is not that much of a hassle to me. I don't cook a lot but I hate peeling whole garlic. I can always crush it first but some recipes call for whole garlic cloves. It's a pain. I also don't like cutting onion. I don't really mind cooking in general no matter how long it will take or how complicated the procedure is. I guess the thing that I hate the most is cleaning up afterwards.

I totally agree there. The nicer the meal, the more ingredients and preparation the more cleaning up you have to do after. So not fun. But usually the meal is worth it I guess.

Yep I like biscuit pizzas and they are pretty inexpensive. You just buy a roll of biscuits kinda squish them a little. Put your sauce and cheese and other ingredients on and bake. They are one of our favorites.

Hi Dear natnickeep! I think most of the delicious dishes are difficult to prepare! It is the technique and the procedure that makes a dish special and more tastier! I am sure two individuals if are given similar ingredients and ask to cook a particular dish, both of will prepare a dish using the same ingredients which will taste differently. This is just because of the difference in the technique adapted by each person would be different! So delicious dishes tend to have lengthy and hard procedures when compared to simple day to day made dishes!
I am from India, I keep on experimenting with Indian dishes! One of my favorite dish is Biryani which is prepared with the help of Rice, Meat and some special spices! For preparing this first we need to select the various type of spices in a particular proportions and of which some are finely grounded while some are used as they are. Various green herbs or condiments are made into paste after selecting them and cleaning them in a particular proportions. The meat is cleaned and marinated in Curds and some spices for few hours before it is cooked in the rice. the rice is washed and socked in the water for few minutes and it is dried in the pen air for few more minutes. The meat is cooked in the spices in low flame along with some oil and while it is about to get finished in separate vessel the rice and this semi cooked meat is arranged in several layers. then a small amount of water sufficient to cook the rice is added and the lid is closed and sealed with wheat dough so that the vapour is not escaped from the vessel. This whole thing is cooked on light fire and some times some charcoal is also put on the cover so that every thing is cooked uniformly! After say about half an hour or so,which will depend upon the quantity Bing prepared this vessel is opened to have a one of the most deliciously tasting Biryani. This is served by cutting all the layer together at a time so that in each serve one should get the rice mixed with the meat cooked in the spices! It tastes wonderful! If you are a non Vegetarian you must try Biryani once! I can assure you once you tasted it you will never say no to it!
Since it involves so much of procedure, which in fact I have not gone in details, I feel literally very tedious to cook this dish! But then some times I feel like cook this dish so I use my own style and skip some steps and add my own according to my convenience to have my own styled Biryani! But let me tell you that this Biryani of mine also tastes very nice and it gets appreciation from my big fans my wife and my son! Thanks for the discussion! Now I am feeling hungry and I will have to search my fridge if I am having any meat preparation in it as my taste buds have got stimulated and started to play their role now, on just talking about the Biryani! Bye!

This does sound like a lot of work. I would have to start cooking an hour or two before I usually do. I know a lot of culture put much time and effort into their food. And that is what makes them so tasty and special. It's like sometimes people can cook their own personalities right into their food. There are ways to still get almost the same taste in less time. But with some things it looses out.

I, too, love artichokes. They are delicious and healthy and can be a whole meal. I detest the prep work, but will do it, even though difficult. However, in many recipes calling for artichokes as an ingredient, I now use frozen artichokes.
I wish more people understood the hard work and effort involved in cooking their meals.

I love kare-kare (oxtail in peanut butter sauce) and it's the favorite of my daughter. It's really a tiring food to cook because you have to toast the rice flour, used for thickening the sauce. Then you have to cook the sauteed salted small shrimps, which serves as a side seasoning when you eat it. Then you have to soften the oxtail, so i have to pressure cook it still.
But now matter how tiring it is, when my daughter comes home during semestral breaks ,, holidays and vacations, i would lovingly cook it for her.
She brags my delicious kare-kare to her boyfriend. So i guess, someday i will be cooking it when her boyfriend comes too.

Halu natnickeep,
oohhh i love eating agar agar salad, this is very nutritious foods, but this is very hard to prepare.you have to mix the powder agar agar into a cold water inside the pot that you have measured then after that you put the pot in the stove in a medium level of fire, you should not leave it mixing, you always mix and mix it in one hour, see how hard your hand and back will get ache.then after that you pour the cooked powder agar agar, into a clean big pan or a clean basin, and leave for one hour to cool it and till it was hard and ready to scrape, then you scrape it,your hand will tired and you can feel numbness.after that you can now add the creams, milks, cheese, and the mixed fruit cocktail, mix it properly.then put it in the refrigerator,to make it cold and ready to eat..wew so delicious to eat but hard to prepare.
thanks
GOD BLESS

hi, I love to eat fish but I don't like to clean it up. most of the fish in traditional market near me are totally fresh. and they don't clean them before selling. if you can't clean it correctly then the food will smell so fishy that's why I don't like to prepare it.

Pizza is considered as one of My family's favorite food, but preparing it is hard. You have to prepare the dough and make it tasty and soft after baking it. You need to wait for 30 min. or more to prepare the whole pizza. And I cant wait that long just for one pizza when your hungry. I don't know about other people having difficulty preparing a pizza, for me It's a slight pain in the butt. I don't know how to cook other food aside's from pizza. hehehe This is the only food I know how to make. ^ ^
