Has anyone ever used a neti pot? Did it work?

I've been hearing a lot about these recently, and I even saw one on a popular sitcom a few weeks back. It sounds great in theory, and I imagined using one and then being able to breathe perfectly afterward, but when I tried it that wasn't exactly the case. I think at first I had my head at the wrong angle because the some of the water was coming out my mouth which was kind of gross because it tasted salty due to the saline solution. So I repositioned my head and tried again, and eventually the water began to slowly trickle out of my other nostril. Is that how it is supposed to work? I was expecting a big gush of water and then I'd blow my nose a few times and be able to breathe better than ever. But when I was finished, I blew my nose, and I didn't really feel any different.
