Would you give up your favorite food for health reasons?

According to some articles I've read in the internet, it clearly states that what we put in our body contributes a lot to our health. In a society where everything is fast paced, we work and keep up by going with what is available and convenient. So here's the questions... If for one reason, your favorite food has become a factor that contributed to risk of health, would you be willing enough to give it up? I'd like to know your opinions.

Definitely, i would give it up because i would like to live longer.
What would it profit you , if you keep eating foods detrimental to your health. There are a lot of healthy substitutes for our favorites, should we just try to look around or find them at the net, to be well informed .

I'd definitely give up my favourite food for health reasons. If i had cholesterol i'd give up red meats to counter it.There is no point aggravating your health condition if excess intake of your favourite food leads to that condition. In the long run health is more important than restricting food that causes the problem.

Definitely yes.. there's nothing more important than keeping your body healthy to function normally... and probably it is a good way of losing weight as you would tend to curb you diet, lol!

Of course, if my health is at stake why not? Like for example, I love eating sweets like cakes, ice creams, chocolates and soft drinks. If my doctor detects that I am suffering from diabetes, then I will be more than willing to cut down on my habit of eating sweets.

Well you have a point. I also read an article in the internet that says, the more we deprive ourselves of the food we love the more we eat much we have the chance to. I think for starters, we should eat in moderation. And if ever we're planning to omit it in our diet, it should be done gradually. Thanks for sharing!

If you absolutly must then yes. I'd rather give up something I love in order to slow the affects of something harmful to my health. I have had to give up many things not by Dr's orders exactly but because they were expensive, not healthy, and told it could be a cause of my discomfort.

I guess so... just like due to the radiation in Japan, I won't eat anything that is from Japan for now and see what will happen, I love sushi and sashimi but I will have to give it up for the time being.

its difficult to immediately give up something like your favorite, even for health reasons, what i did was do it gradually until one day i finally sop wanting it. so far I've been successful in giving up soda and fastfoods.

I dont know if I will be able to do it but I think if the desire is really strong then its possible. It also depends on the motivation. Just like my dad, he really likes ice cream and roasted pork but he has to give up everything cause he has diabetes and he also has hypertension. I feel sorry for him he wont be able to eat his favorite food but I really salute his determination.

hi there,
yes i would definitely give it up. i am kind of a health conscious type of person sometimes i don't know the exact content of that food so i just keep on eating that, but from the time i find out that it is not good, then I'll not eat that again.

I really think that discipline is the key to good health, and believe that any food which is consumed in the excess is not a good thing.- But I know that I would give up the food I love for good health. Good health also means to feel good and if this would be a matter of giving up something I like to eat, I would give it up in a heart beat. - I also know out of experience that you can get used to certain tastes over time and only crave the food you love once in a while.
When I tasted peanut butter for the first time, I thought it was a terrible taste not to mention how it stuck to the roof of my mouth. - Now I enjoy eating it.

I would be willing to give it up. Health is one thing that should be given outmost importance. I'll do my best to not cheat myself from time to time. :)

hi msvenzon, if you're referring to "food" i thought of one favorite food only.. so that's definitely yes! i have so many favorite foods but if one of them may be a risk to my health, i would surely not to love it anymore.. the only wealth we have is our HEALTH so ill make it as my priority. have a nice day.. stay healthy..

Of course giving up favorite foods is the best answer when a person suffers because of it. For example some people suffer from heartburn and acidity with the intake of certain foods and by giving up some of their favorite foods they can keep away from the problem. But it is not the same in all cases. A sugar patient need not boycott sweets totally. Instead they can have some sweets once in a while. Good excercise, calm mind through yoga and meditation helps a person to maintain a healthy life. And anything in excess is always bad and so one should not cross the limit even if it is their favorite food. Happy mylotting.

I think it would be really hard for us to give up our favorite food, but I don't believe that we couldn't do it. Many people have had to make this choice on a daily basis. I would give it up, if it made my health better, but not just for myself. I would do it for my family, so they wouldn't have to worry about me. I think more americans should be more conserned about their health anyway.

hi msvenzon,
Sometimes i want to give my favorite foods up which will effect my health, but it's not definitely, i can't help eating them. I don't know whether it's sure bad or not, when i'm in a good mood after eating them. I tend to change the way i live slowly, and i will have a big change after a long time. Recently i eat more vegetables and fruits, i think it's a good beginning. Good luck for you.

Of course yes! If I were in this position, I would have to choose between my life and the food. Between those, of course I would choose my life over the food. I would rather live long, healthy, than live short even though i'm able to eat everything. hope this helps.
