Why say crazy things

Canada

What makes us say the crazy things we say? I recently recieved a cheque in my mailbox that didn't belong to me. It was for a large sum of money and knowing how I would certainly want it I looked the name up and called the people telling them I was sorry for opening it and that they could either come get it or I could repost it. They asked me to keep it and they would pick it up. I have had it here for a week and yesterday the lady called me told me who she was, asked me if I was (me) I said Yes speaking then said she was in town today and wondered if she could come to pick up the cheque. I said Yes absolutely. What did she say next? "Are you home now?" Really??? Who did she think answered my phone with the same name as me? Crazy? Anyway she did come I met her at the door, she seemed very nice. Have you ever said anything that like that? My husband used to be bad for that. I would be lets say peeling potatoes and he'd walk up to me and ask me what I was doing. Often just to be an idiot I'd say something crazy like, "I'll play your silly little game what am I doing?"

I do think people are getting so used to people using cell phones, that they don't think about it. My husband will walk up to me when I am at the stove and ask the same thing? I just turn and look at him with that stupid look.

If i was so lucky to get a big check i would have come right away to get it, lol. What popped in my mind about silly questions is when u hear someone say had lost something & just about every time someone will say 'where did u lose it', I always want to say 'well duh', it wouldn't be lost if i knew that, lol.

OMG that is funny but Oh So True!!! Yes I agree if I had a cheque for over 600 dollars I would have been there so fast my feet would have been smoking hot. Guess they're in a different part of the financial world than we are my friend!!! Thank You for your response and have a great day.

I do hope that you asked the lady to show some ID that she was the person the check was meant for. You can't trust anyone these days. How was the person calling you to know whether you were speaking on a land line or a cell phone? I do not find it unusual to ask if you were home or not in a day where almost everyone uses (and answers) their cell phone.

I had found the number to call in the first place and Yes the cheque did go to the right lady and she explained the way it all came about. It was a rebate cheque which I already knew because it was marked rebate on the stub. Thank You for your response my friend. Have A Great Day!!!

Hi. Grandmaof2. I guess many people are not thinking about the consequences of what they are doing. They don't think before they speak, or they just ask a question knowing what answer they will receive. It is really silly sometimes. I know that I tend to ask my husband the question that I already know. And he will reply back to me like, you know what I am doing so why would you ask me this anyway. I get what you are saying. If the lady called your home telephone and not your cell phone it was strange to ask if you were home now. I guess she just wasn't properly thinking, or she thought that you was on a cell phone.

I really think that a lot of people really don't think about what they are saying before they say it. I really think that if we just thought for a brief moment before speaking, then we might figure out that what we are in fact saying is rather absurd to say the least. Well at least most people are in fact going to wish this. This is not an absolute thing to say the very least. Of course one person's completely crazy, but be another person's calm and rational. That is one of those really weird things to say the very least. There are a lot of times where what is crazy to you, is really not something that is really crazy to another person indeed. Therefore, it is really one of those things that makes the world what it is. It does seem crazy to some but not to another person. So who really knows, we might all be crazy. In fact, that is rather likely.

Howdy mam, how are you doing? I seen where you got answers about cell phones, I won't repeat it. I mostly just wanted to stop by and say hi. I miss seeing you on here. I'm not on much neither, busy with life. I haven't posted a discussion is ages, just post comments on some. You know I gotta put my two cents in. Take care, gonna make a comment on your other discussion. See you in a little bit.

Many times I have known people who are like this, and it really depends on the situation on how it seems to effect me. I know that there are times when someone says something like this and it can be annoying, but Glad that you were able to find the person that this check really belonged too. Were they Happy to get it back and was there any type of reward or just a Thanks?

30 years ago that would be a crazy question, are you home now, but with cell phones today, you never know if the person is answering the phone from home or not. Another one that is used now, is are you up, well given I am answering the phone, even if I was sleeping I am up now

She probably was asking if you were planning on going out, or maybe she thought you used a cell phone and maybe was somewhere else. I remember an email that makes the rounds every now and then about stupid things lawyers say... such as... "Could it be possible that the deceased were still alive when you performed the autopsy?"

I often ask my husband what he's doing because I really don't know, esp. when he's in his workshop. Or if I hear what might be him getting into cookies. My Dad used to get up at crazy hours of the night and someone will be a wrong number. They'll say, "I'm sorry to wake you." Then he would say, "That's OK, I had to get up and answer the phone anyway." Being goofy. I try not to ask the obvious, but I'm sure I do sometimes, mostly when I'm tired.

Well, then you would like Bill Ingvall's Here's Your Sign. It is about these crazy little things that we all say. I am sure you can find a short video on YouTube. Check him out....both you and your husband will love him.

I think it are the emotions, accordingly to what we feel it can make us say things without thinking.

A lot of people will sometimes speak first without thinking it through what they are going to say, and that happens more times than many of us may care to want to remember. With so many people using cell phones and not having land line phones any more, this could be the reason she asked if you were at home or maybe she just wanted to come by at that particular time if you were at home and available to pick up the cheque.

I know sometimes when I answer the phone and it's not for me but ask for someone else I say...I think you have the wrong number? I should just say...you have the wrong number. I don't know why I always say...I think! I know!

LOL Makes you wonder where our heads are, doesn't it? LOL Sometimes our heads are buried in a sand pile inside our heads that we just can't think straight to realize "how stupid that sounded" until after it's said! Sometimes I'll ask a dumb question and realize it after I've said it and then I'll throw my hand up as if to say, "don't answer" and I'll turn around and walk out then turn around and come back in and say "let's try this again" and we'll both laugh.

Actually...I've had people ask me if im home when i get calls and be surprised when i say oh no im at moms...or omg is this your cell assuming that because the number is listed Its a land line. I use my cell as my main phone as it was costly to have both and im rarely physically at home.
